Dining Experience

The dining experience at Hotel Eckert is a significant highlight, featuring a Michelin-starred restaurant under the guidance of Chef Nicolai Wiedmer. The restaurant is celebrated for its modern fine dining concept, artfully blending French culinary opulence with subtle Asian flavors, while maintaining a strong connection to Southern Baden roots. It has earned a 1 Michelin star and 3 Gault&Millau toques, establishing itself as one of Germany's most exciting culinary destinations.

The restaurant offers both a Business Lunch and various Tasting Menus. Guests frequently commend the excellent breakfast buffet for its extensive selection. The ambiance of the restaurant is chic, modern, and minimalist, yet manages to feel cozy and stylish. In warmer months, an attractive outdoor terrace is available for al fresco dining. Noteworthy culinary touches include the serving of delicious sourdough bread with whipped nut butter and sorrel cream, and a particularly "umami-spicy vegan amuse-bouche". The hotel also features a bar with a lounge, open until 10:30 PM, known for its unique gin selection in the region.

Value & Pricing

The hotel generally scores well for value for money (8.4 out of 10). For its Michelin-starred restaurant, some reviewers noted "good quality star level for a fair price". While specific rates vary by season and room type, typical prices observed in recent searches ranged from approximately $114 to $160 per night. The hotel also offers family-friendly pricing, with children up to 3 years old staying for €15 per night, and those aged 4-17 for €20 per night when using an available extra bed.

Common Complaints

While the vast majority of feedback is positive, some isolated concerns have been noted. One AI-generated summary of reviews mentioned "significant complaints regarding cleanliness, service, and room size," and a feeling that "the value for the price was not justified" in certain cases. However, these comments appear to contradict the overwhelmingly positive ratings for cleanliness (8.6), comfort (8.7), and staff (9.0) from a large number of guests. In the dining experience, one review found the vegan menu to be "only conditionally convincing," and an initial starter was described as "a bit roughly arranged".

Great hotel and very helpful staff, the breakfast was great but didn’t like the dinner at the restaurant although it claims to be a Michelin star. Rooms are spacious and clean, the hotel is at a great location very close to Basel SBB (around 30 minutes by Uber/taxi), the bus is the only public transport available and it’s a bit slow

Response from the owner

Wonderful dinner @Eckert fine dining. Everything was delicious, beautiful and tasty. We discovered a lot of new flavors! One of the rare places that offer a non alcoholic pairing with the menu. Service was very nice and spoke English. Michelin star well deserved!

We had a fabulous stay at The Eckert. Our room was fabulous, lovely and clean. We were near to the little pool, which I would have loved to have had time to use as it looked great. There was a lovely garden area to relax in, too. All the staff here were lovely and made us very welcome. The breakfast is very tasty with lots of choice. You can get to anywhere using The Eckert as a base because th...

We went there the first time in quite some time. Both had the full menu + wine journey (pick it if you get the chance, it really lifts the whole evening to another experience). All the courses were delicious and came with perfectly selected wine (and in one case Sherry). Service was spot on, for me exactly the amount of attentivness to the guest. So, we'll be back for sure.

Our third time here and now are go to en-route from England to Italy. The owner and staff are very helpful. We had the most fabulous meal. The service is excellent and the quality of produce first class. They made sure I could charge my car. Our room was a little warm but we could have got out of bed to open a window! Very clean and comfortable. Nespresso available in entrance.

The rooms are very comfortable, well-equipped and come at a reasonable price. If you have a car to drive to the city center, the location is fine. Staff is super friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed my stay. In terms of improvements, I would recommend to place Nespresso machines in all of the rooms and to get some new pillows 👍🏼 otherwise, keep up the good work
