1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The overall sentiment for Hotel deLuxe is largely positive, with guests frequently praising its beautiful decor, comfortable accommodations, and friendly staff. Many consider it a "FAVORITE place to stay" and appreciate the "gracious" atmosphere. However, some guests have expressed dissatisfaction with cleanliness, inconsistent customer service, and concerns regarding the safety of the surrounding area at night.

2. Key Highlights

Guests are particularly fond of the hotel's distinctive design, which harks back to Hollywood's Golden Age with a timeless Art Deco aesthetic and a curated photography collection. The service is frequently noted as friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Its central location, providing easy access to downtown and Northwest Portland's attractions, is also a significant draw. Noteworthy amenities include the on-site restaurant Gracie's, the vintage-inspired Driftwood Room bar, a 24-hour fitness center, and complimentary bike rentals. Rooms also feature a "Well & Fit kit" with yoga essentials and a spiritual book library.

3. Room Quality

Hotel deLuxe offers clean, comfortable, and often spacious rooms. The decor features warm colors and a traditional, cheerful vintage style with lively bright pastels. Guests consistently praise the plush beds, which include down comforters, Supima duvet covers, Mascioni linens, and pillowtop mattresses, with a choice of down or alternative pillows for a restful sleep. Rooms are equipped with modern conveniences like flat-screen TVs, large desks, Bluetooth clock players, mini-bars, refrigerators, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are typically attached, some featuring marble details and relaxing tubs. However, some guests have noted that rooms and especially bathrooms can be "fairly small," and some older reviews mentioned maintenance issues like peeling paint or mold in bathrooms. A few guests also reported a lack of basic amenities like cups or coffee makers in their rooms.

4. Dining Experience

The hotel's dining options are a highlight. Gracie's, the on-site fine-dining restaurant, serves highly-rated American and Pacific Northwest cuisine. It is open for breakfast, brunch, and lunch daily, and is particularly praised for its delicious breakfast and brunch in an elegant, movie-set-worthy setting. Gracie's focuses on seasonal and locally sourced dishes. The Driftwood Room is a 1950s-inspired lounge and cocktail bar, offering specialty cocktails in a glamorous, mid-century modern atmosphere. Seasonal afternoon tea is also available at Gracie's from November to January.

5. Service & Staff

The staff at Hotel deLuxe often receive "top marks" and are described as "exceptional," "friendly," "helpful," "accommodating," and "kind." Many guests have lauded the personalized service and attention to detail. Despite this, some reviewers have reported "terrible customer service" and "indifferent staff," citing instances where requests were met with disinterest.

Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Walking distance to a bunch of great spots in downtown. The water pressure was lacking but thats to be expected from an old building. The lounge is the weirdest part. It is so dark and oddly shaped that it feels like a cross between Harry potters closet and a cave. It feel less like ambiance and more like something is trying to be hidden from you. The one t...

Tried calling in for about 3-4 hours prior to check in and got no answer. I had to live chat through Expedia to speak to someone instead, and even then I got 1 response an hour after asking the question then never again after my reply. No fridges in rooms, parking is $40/day despite it being listed as an amenity. Ceilings had cracks all over it. One pipe leak and it's over for the whole building...

The bed was comfortable, the room was clean and stocked with towels, robes, everything you'd need to be comfy. The service was absolutely wonderful, they were very responsive to our inquiries. We had a drink and appetizer in the lounge and everything tasted great. We wi...

Very special Old Hollywood feel small hotel in West Portland, not too far from Powell's City of Books. Superb in house restaurant called Gracie's with fantastic food (we got brunch both mornings) and excellent service! Bed was excellent, and it's very quiet. Highly recommend.
