Expert Review: Hotel Colee, Atlanta Buckhead, Autograph Collection

Hotel Colee, Atlanta Buckhead, Autograph Collection, a Michelin Key Selected property, offers a vibrant and stylish experience in the heart of Atlanta's upscale Buckhead neighborhood. This 4.5-star hotel, renovated in 2019, blends Southern charm with contemporary design, aiming for a "celebration of Atlanta" vibe.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus for Hotel Colee is largely positive, with guests often praising its lively atmosphere and excellent location. On Marriott's own platform, the average overall rating is 3.5 out of 5, with higher marks for location (4.5) and cleanliness (3.9). Other review aggregators show scores like 8.3 ("Very Good") from 547 reviews, with high marks for location (9.1), cleanliness (8.9), and staff (8.8). Many guests describe their stay as "excellent" and "amazing," highlighting a "fun place to stay" with an "incredible personality." However, some experiences reflect a more mixed sentiment, particularly regarding noise and specific room issues.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently laud Hotel Colee for several standout features:

  • Design & Vibe: The hotel is celebrated for its glamorous and contemporary interiors, featuring bold, vibrant prints and colorful, eclectic public spaces. It's described as having a "disco vibe" and a unique personality.
  • Amenities: A major draw is the outdoor infinity-edge pool with city views and water walls, as well as the rooftop bar, Rosé & Rye (formerly Whiskey Blue), offering impressive skyline views. The Lobby Bar also features seasonal Champagne cocktails. The hotel also boasts a revolving art gallery in the lobby.
  • Location: Its prime location in Buckhead, adjacent to Lenox Square Mall and close to Phipps Plaza, makes it ideal for luxury shopping and dining.
  • Service: Many guests commend the staff for being helpful, friendly, and providing "top-notch service," making them feel welcomed and valued.

3. Room Quality

Hotel Colee features 291 well-appointed rooms, described as plush, comfortable, and nicely decorated. Room décor is inspired by a monochrome Victorian wallpaper motif. Guests have noted the presence of Nespresso machines, dimmer lights, and flat-screen TVs (some 37-inch, others 55-inch LCDs with premium digital channels and Netflix). Rooms also include iPod docking stations, private bathrooms with rainfall showerheads, free Lather toiletries, safes, complimentary bottled water, coffee/tea makers, irons/ironing boards, and mini-fridges (though one review mentioned a locked refrigerator). Beds are equipped with down comforters and premium bedding, and a pillow menu is available. Some rooms offer city views, including Lenox Square or even Downtown Atlanta in the distance. While generally clean and well-designed, some guests have noted issues such as loud rooms, thin walls, and a bright green thermostat light that can disrupt sleep. Bathroom design, with frosted glass walls and inward-swinging doors, has also been a point of discomfort for some, as well as inconsistent shower temperatures (scalding hot or icy cold).

4. Dining Experience

Hotel Colee offers several on-site dining and bar options:

  • Sister: This first-floor restaurant and bar serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, specializing in sandwiches and featuring an outdoor patio along Peachtree Road. Guest feedback on the food has been mixed, with some calling it "good" but noting a "lack of variety" in the menu. However, some reviewers rave about the "great" breakfast. A cooked-to-order breakfast is available for a fee, and the hotel offers vegan and vegetarian options.
  • Rosé & Rye (Rooftop Bar): Open for dinner through late-night, this bar offers impressive views of the Buckhead skyline and Downtown Atlanta. It serves cocktails with fresh ingredients, craft beers, and signature bites.
  • The Lobby Bar: This lively spot, with vibrant seating (including barber's chairs), is open in the evenings and offers whiskeys, classic cocktails, and small bites.

5. Service & Staff

Guest feedback on service and staff is largely positive, with many describing them as friendly, helpful, welcoming, and professional. Reviewers have highlighted instances where staff "went above and beyond" to ensure an exceptional stay, making guests feel "valued." Specific mentions include efficient front desk staff and pleasant interactions. However, some negative feedback exists, with a few guests describing staff as "unprofessional and tacky" or experiencing poor customer service, with one reviewer explicitly stating "the worst customer service!!!"

6. Location & Accessibility

Hotel Colee boasts an "amazing" and "convenient" location in the vibrant Buckhead district of Atlanta. It is nestled next to Lenox Square Mall and close to Phipps Plaza, making it an ideal base for luxury shopping, dining, and entertainment. Many attractions are within walking distance or a short drive. The hotel is also two blocks from a MARTA station, providing easy access to other parts of Atlanta, including Mercedes Benz Stadium. Valet parking is available for a fee, and the hotel offers various accessibility features, including elevators, wheelchair-accessible paths, and accessible rooms.

7. Value & Pricing

The Hotel Colee is generally considered a good value for its location and amenities, with an average room rate of approximately $215, though rates can range from $86 to $2,500 for suites. Guests have found the rooms to be "very nice for the price" and felt it offered a "reasonable price" for events. However, the cost of valet parking is a recurring point of criticism, with fees noted at $44-$59 per day. Some guests suggest using cheaper parking options nearby if not opting for valet.

8. Common Complaints

While many guests enjoy their stay, several common complaints have emerged:

  • Noise: Rooms can be loud, with reports of street noise, the bass from the rooftop club rattling rooms, and thin walls.
  • Room-specific issues: These include mold in bathrooms, malfunctioning heating, clogged tubs, curtains not closing completely, and a very bright thermostat light. One guest also mentioned a locked mini-fridge and inconsistent shower temperatures.
  • Dining variety: The "Sister Restaurant" has been noted for a lack of variety in its menu.
  • Parking Costs: The high cost of valet parking is a consistent point of dissatisfaction among guests.
  • Customer Service Inconsistencies: While many praise the staff, some experiences indicate unprofessional or unhelpful service.
  • Renovation Concerns: One Michelin Guide guest described the hotel as an "old hotel with a lipstick renovation" and mentioned "cheap broken components in the rooms" and "unfortunate smells."

The staff is phenomenal, there is nothing else to improve on with the staff, I can say enough about them!!!! However, It was annoying having being on the 10 floor and being so close to the rooftop bar,it is Loud!!!! Especially when a masquerade ball is going on. Also, in our room, the HVAC wouldn’t stay on, it would just shut off and come no where close to cooling or heating the room to the de...

I came to this hotel for an event at Rose and Rye. The hotel looks beautiful! Well decorated, classy and pristine. Valet was sold out for the evening. The parking wasn't too bad. Having to walk up a minor hill in 5 inch stilettos was challenging but do-able. The gentleman at the Valet stand directed us to where we needed to go. We did not stay at the hotel but we were in it. The view from the loun...

I am extremely disappointed with how this hotel has handled my stay and the billing issue. At checkout, I requested a printed receipt, but the staff refused and told me it would be sent by email. I never received that email. More seriously, I was incorrectly charged for purchases made in a different room, even though I did not buy anything during my stay. The charge has already appeared on my cr...

I was welcomed the moment I walked in and the customer service continued throughout my stay. Great food, the room was spacious and comfortable with a nice view. Very cute setup and the different restaurant options with really good food and drinks I didn’t have to leave the hotel. It was a vacation away that was much needed. I will be back.

It is a good hotel. Clean. Staff are pretty good. Some great. Some ok. Rooms are large. Showers are good. Price is good. They have a nice bar. Gym. Sorry it is awful. Most hotel gyms are awful but this is really bad. There are treadmills if you’re into that. But fear not- there are gyms nearby that you can walk to. Consider Forum Athletic Club.
