1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The overall sentiment for Hassler Roma is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently describing their stays as "exceptional," "superb," and "outstanding." The hotel receives high praise for its ambiance, convenience, and the unique experience it offers. Many consider it one of the world's best hotels, boasting elegance, charm, and sophistication.
2. Key Highlights
Guests are particularly enamored with several aspects of Hassler Roma:
- Service: The hotel's service is often cited as a standout feature, characterized by precision, polish, and a personalized approach where staff often greet guests by name.
- Location: Its unbeatable position at the top of the Spanish Steps provides breathtaking views and immediate access to Rome's iconic attractions and high-end shopping.
- Design & Heritage: The hotel exudes a deep sense of history and traditional Roman elegance, with communal areas like the outdoor courtyard (Palm Court) and the 7th Floor Terrace being particularly radiant and full of life.
- Dining Views: The panoramic views, especially from the Michelin-starred Imàgo restaurant and the 7th Floor Terrace, are consistently highlighted as magical and cinematic.
3. Room Quality
Hassler Roma offers 87 elegantly furnished rooms and suites, ranging from classic to more recently refurbished options. Rooms are noted for being spacious, comfortable, and impeccably clean. Many rooms maintain a classical Roman aesthetic with ornate headboards, patterned fabrics, golden accents, and luxurious marble bathrooms, often featuring double sinks, bidets, bathtubs, and separate showers. Some rooms, particularly those recently renovated, feature lighter, more contemporary designs while still retaining the property's traditional palette. Views vary, with some suites offering surreal perspectives of the Spanish Steps and others overlooking Rome's picturesque rooftops. Deluxe Rooms, even as smaller options, are reported to be very spacious with great neighborhood views and walk-in closets.
4. Dining Experience
The hotel boasts a impressive gastronomic offering, including:
- Imàgo: The Michelin-starred restaurant on the sixth floor, known for its refined Italian cuisine by Executive Chef Andrea Antonini and breathtaking panoramic views of the city. It offers an intimate setting with only 12 tables.
- Salone Eva: An all-day dining restaurant open during winter, offering traditional Roman flavors, often accompanied by live piano music in the evenings.
- Palm Court: Replacing Salone Eva during spring and summer, this outdoor garden restaurant provides a serene atmosphere for leisurely meals.
- 7th Floor Terrace: A popular spot for sundowners, cocktails, and pasta, offering some of the best views in Rome.
Breakfast is generally considered delicious and substantial, with Italian pastries and items like peach yogurt receiving specific praise. However, some guests suggest that the buffet could be more diverse, offering more modern and dietary-specific options beyond traditional offerings.
5. Service & Staff
The service at Hassler Roma is consistently highlighted as exceptional, attentive, and genuinely warm. Staff are known for their precision and polish, embodying classic European hospitality, often remembering guests by name and making them feel part of a "famiglia" (family). The concierge team is particularly knowledgeable, providing excellent recommendations and assistance with tours and arrangements. While some guests note that the concierges and reception staff can be a little formal or "stiff," the waiting staff in the restaurants are often described as attentive, warm, and even humorous, contributing to a more relaxed atmosphere.
6. Location & Accessibility
Hassler Roma boasts an enviable and highly sought-after location at the very top of the Spanish Steps. This prime position offers instant access to Piazza di Spagna and is within easy walking distance of major Roman landmarks such as the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza del Popolo, Villa Borghese gardens, and the upscale shopping street Via dei Condotti. The Spagna Metro station is also just a 5-minute walk away, providing convenient access to other parts of the city.
7. Value & Pricing
As a luxury five-star property in a prime location, Hassler Roma comes with a significant price tag. Average prices per room can be around $1500, with ranges from approximately $951 to over $2,500 depending on the room type and season. While undeniably expensive, many guests feel the unparalleled service, breathtaking views, and overall luxurious experience justify the cost, viewing it as an investment in a memorable Roman holiday.
8. Common Complaints
While overwhelmingly positive, some recurring criticisms include:
- Dated Interiors: For travelers seeking ultra-modern aesthetics, some indoor communal areas and room furnishings, while impeccably maintained, can feel "heritage-driven" or "dated" rather than contemporary.
- Breakfast Options: The buffet breakfast, while substantial, has been noted by some as not offering enough diversity or options catering to modern dietary requirements, with a preference for more à la minute preparations.
- Spa Facilities: The spa is sometimes described as intimate, with one review mentioning it as a "let-down."
- Bathroom Design: A combination shower/tub arrangement in some executive suites has been noted as a potential area for improvement, particularly for a hotel of this caliber.
- Formal Atmosphere: The general atmosphere, particularly at reception, can be perceived as formal or "stiff" by some who prefer a more relaxed environment.

The Hassler Roma delivers a level of refinement and hospitality that few hotels achieve. It’s luxurious but intimate, grand yet welcoming — a truly timeless Roman experience. I would return in a heartbeat. The Level 7 terrace is a wonderful place for sunset cocktails too.

Unless you are a celebrity or someone the hotel deems important, we strongly recommend you stay elsewhere. From beginning to end of our four night stay, we were taken advantage. The first room we were assigned was above the ongoing construction of a spa. Sledge hammering from 7:30AM to 10:30PM. The second room was half the size and below the patio bar. The sedan car we paid for to take us to airp...

The reputation of The Hassler is not exaggerated. We recently spent 2 days there. I won't repeat all the wonderful things people have said. I agree with them all. I want to give a shout out to Antonina at the reception. I became ill on the flight over to Rome. When we arrived at the hotel early in the morning, our room was not ready. Upon seeing my condition, Antonina did not hesitate to find us a...
