citizenM Menlo Park, a Michelin Key Selected property in Silicon Valley, generally garners highly positive reviews, praised for its modern design, advanced technology, and exceptional staff. It stands out as a vibrant and efficient choice for travelers to the area.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The overall sentiment for citizenM Menlo Park is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests describing their stays as "exceptional" or "wonderful". On platforms like Booking.com, it holds an "Excellent" score of 8.8 based on 85 reviews, while Hotels.com shows an "Exceptional" rating of 9.4 from 183 reviews. The hotel is frequently described as clean, comfortable, and a good value, embodying a "tech meets comfort" ethos perfectly suited for Silicon Valley.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently highlight several aspects of citizenM Menlo Park:

  • Design & Vibe: The hotel boasts a cool, colorful, eclectic, and fun interior design, creating a "fun and colorful" atmosphere. Its modern aesthetic and tech-forward approach are frequently appreciated.
  • Service & Staff: The staff is often described as very friendly, attentive, helpful, and efficient, contributing significantly to the positive guest experience.
  • Amenities: Modern and high-tech amenities, including iPad controls for room functions, free Wi-Fi, and a well-equipped fitness center, are key draws.
  • Comfort: The comfort of the beds is a recurring positive comment.

3. Room Quality

The rooms at citizenM Menlo Park are cleverly designed for two adults, featuring an XL king bed with a pillow-top mattress and premium bedding, ensuring a comfortable sleep. They include a private bathroom with a powerful rainfall shower, eco-friendly toiletries, and blackout blinds. A key feature is the in-room iPad, which controls everything from lighting and temperature to the smart TV and Chromecast. Rooms also have a work desk and free Wi-Fi.

However, some guests find the rooms to be compact or "small," with one reviewer stating they are "too small" for two people and "you could hardly move". Criticisms also include the absence of an in-room coffee maker, refrigerator, glasses, or bottle of water. The iPad control system, while innovative, has been described as "inconvenient" or in a "beta test stage" by some, leading to occasional frustration.

4. Dining Experience

The hotel features canteenM, a 24/7 restaurant, bar, and café serving international cuisine. Guests can enjoy a buffet breakfast (for a surcharge) that includes continental, buffet, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options with warm dishes, fresh pastries, cheese, fruits, and juice. Reviewers have praised the "delicious drinks". While the 24/7 food and drink service is convenient, some guests have noted that other food options can be "too expensive" and expressed a desire for more healthy choices. Coffee and tea are available in common areas.

5. Service & Staff

The staff at citizenM Menlo Park receives high praise, with a "Staff" rating of 9.5 on Booking.com. Guests frequently comment on the staff being very friendly, welcoming, attentive, and efficient. Many appreciate the helpfulness and the positive, upbeat vibe created by the team. One reviewer, however, found the "phony, upbeat vibe of the staff" to be "super annoying".

6. Location & Accessibility

Located at 2 Meta Way in Menlo Park, the hotel is strategically positioned "right on the edge of Meta's Menlo Park campus," making it ideal for business travelers visiting Meta. It is considered to be in a quiet area, minutes from the city, and offers easy access to Highway 101. While convenient for Meta, one review mentions it's a "30 min walk from any coffee/restaurant/shop," suggesting limited immediate walkability for other amenities. San Francisco Bay is nearby, and Stanford University is approximately 4 miles south. San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is a 20-minute drive away.

7. Value & Pricing

Many guests consider citizenM Menlo Park to offer "good value" and report that pricing is "very reasonable compared to nearby hotels". Rates can start from around $139.0 nightly, though prices fluctuate based on dates and room type. Free parking and free Wi-Fi are valuable inclusions. The hotel's selection as a Michelin Key property also suggests an evaluated "value for cost" as part of its criteria.

8. Common Complaints

Despite the generally positive feedback, some recurring issues are mentioned by guests:

  • Room Size: The most frequent complaint concerns the compact size of the rooms, with some finding them too small, especially for two people, limiting movement.
  • iPad Control System: While innovative, the tablet-based room control system occasionally proves inconvenient or buggy, described by some as being in a "beta test stage" and "not ready for prime time".
  • Lack of In-Room Amenities: The absence of an in-room coffee maker, refrigerator, drinking glasses, or bottled water is a repeated criticism.
  • Dining Costs/Options: Some guests find the food at canteenM to be expensive and express a desire for more diverse or healthier meal choices.
  • Staff Vibe: A very small minority found the upbeat demeanor of the staff to be "phony" or annoying.
  • Reservation Issues: At least one instance of a reservation being canceled by the hotel without satisfactory resolution was reported.

Stayed here due to proximity to my office but cant say I enjoyed it. I get the whole modern/minimalist vibe but that shouldnt come at the expense of comfort or amenities. The iPad only check in took way longer than if I had checked in with the staff member who was right there. No cups or bottles in the room at all despite being Marriott Gold > i had to go downstairs to pick up a bottle. And as me...

The location is good for Meta and the rooms are dark and cold, but I had an issue with noise and getting comfortable in the room. I could hear footsteps from inside, cars on the expressway, and the trash getting picked up at 2am. The rooms are incredibly small with tight showers and not even enough space to lay your luggage open. There’s also the bad self check-in UX: The hotel has tablets at the ...

Great design. Smart rooms, with high-end materials and a good, generous (4x4ft) shower - much appreciated. Blackout blinds for completely dark rooms. Everything new. However, the rooms (probably more so the ones facing the bay) are noisy.. my first room had a loud always on HVAC. I got a different one, and now I can hear the traffic in the evening and the early morning. Expect better from a 4star ...

The rooms are obscenely small. About the size of a white collar prison cell. The shower is a glass stall in the center of the room. The decor is grotesque. Lots of photos of faces staring. The last thing I wanted to be confronted with in middle of the night. They've heavily invested in LEDs and even an iPads in place of a remote. (This iPad is also how you open and close the curtains.) Unfortunatl...

The hotel is very good, but I had no option of pillow, there was only one very high, so I couldn't sleep well. Another detail is the double bed leaning against the wall, to get up I had to go over my husband. I didn't find it functional for a couple. If you are single, that's fine! breakfast is well prepared and the service is excellent.

I think the branding/design decisions of a CitizenM hotel only really work well when there are robust alternatives for the things a CitizenM hotel decisively lacks. This location isn't great for a CitizenM hotel. The hotel seems to reply to a lot of negative reviews on here with a defensive "we're minimalistic and not for everyone" message. Fair enough, but in this location, CitizenM isn't really ...
