Bluebird Lake Placid (Soon to be Laurel Lake Placid): A Michelin Key Selected Retreat in the Adirondacks

Bluebird Lake Placid, a Michelin Key Selected property nestled in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains, offers guests a modern and stylish mountain retreat with convenient access to Lake Placid's main attractions. While undergoing a transition to be officially renamed Laurel Lake Placid as of December 18, 2025, the hotel aims to maintain its commitment to a relaxing and engaging guest experience.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general sentiment surrounding Bluebird Lake Placid is largely positive, with guests frequently commending its recent renovations, clean environment, and attractive design. The hotel is often described as a "fun modern hotel" and an "ideal mountain retreat." However, some reviews indicate mixed experiences, particularly concerning the completion of renovations, specific room maintenance, and occasional service inconsistencies.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently praise several aspects of Bluebird Lake Placid:

  • Location: Its prime location, just steps from Main Street and Mirror Lake, is a significant draw, allowing easy access to downtown shops, restaurants, and attractions.
  • Design & Ambiance: The hotel's "sleek, Scandinavian-Asian retreat" aesthetic, featuring minimalist decor, tongue and groove walls, and a pale green and beige color scheme, is widely appreciated for being both modern and cozy. The lobby, with its board games and fireplace, is noted as a comfortable space for families.
  • Cleanliness: Many guests highlight the hotel's cleanliness as a major positive.
  • Pet-Friendly: Bluebird Lake Placid welcomes dogs, making it a suitable option for travelers with furry companions, though additional fees apply.

3. Room Quality

The rooms at Bluebird Lake Placid are generally described as newly renovated, comfortable, and well-designed. They often include amenities such as mini-fridges, microwaves, and flat-screen TVs. Bathrooms are also nicely renovated with walk-in showers and separate lighted vanity areas. The design incorporates Scandinavian and Japanese influences, using wood and a soothing color palette. Some suites are more capacious, offering bunk beds and accommodating up to six guests. However, some guests have reported issues such as poor quality bedding and furniture in certain rooms due to unfinished construction work. There have also been isolated complaints about specific rooms needing repair, like a sink and vanity appearing to fall out of the wall, or dark decor creating a "suffocating feeling" in some areas.

4. Dining Experience

Bluebird Lake Placid features "The Lounge at Bluebird Lake Placid," a restaurant and bar that serves snacks, light bites, beer, wine, and cocktails. Views of downtown Lake Placid and Mirror Lake are available from the lounge. While some guests mention a "limited breakfast option," others appreciated the "perfect breakfast," with continental breakfast offerings being noted. Free breakfast is also indicated by Expedia. An average continental breakfast cost of $8.00 per person was noted in one source.

5. Service & Staff

The staff at Bluebird Lake Placid typically receives positive feedback, often described as friendly, helpful, and terrific. Guests have noted the efficiency and friendliness of the front desk. The hotel's affiliation with Lark Hotels suggests an emphasis on service and "subtly luxe amenities." However, one review mentioned the front desk needing "more customer service training."

6. Location & Accessibility

The hotel boasts an "absolutely perfect" location on Saranac Avenue, making it highly accessible to Lake Placid's main attractions. It is within walking distance of Mirror Lake and Main Street, where guests can find shopping and dining options. Nearby attractions include the Olympic Museum (a 3-minute drive or 12-minute walk), the Lake Placid Conference Center, and various outdoor activities such as hiking, golf, and winter sports. Free private parking is available on-site, contributing to its convenience.

7. Value & Pricing

Bluebird Lake Placid is generally considered a good value, with pricing often described as reasonable. While rates can vary, verified reviews mention an average nightly rate of around $199.25 in August 2025. Priceline lists rooms from $109, and Expedia shows prices starting from $106.65 for a one-night stay for two adults as of January 28, 2026, for a stay on February 9, 2026. The cheapest deals are generally found in April and March, with Tuesdays and Wednesdays often offering the best room rates.

8. Common Complaints

While generally well-received, some recurring issues and criticisms have been noted by guests:

  • Unfinished Construction/Maintenance: Some guests experienced discomfort due to poor quality bedding and furniture, attributed to ongoing or recently completed renovations. Specific maintenance concerns included a sink/vanity appearing to detach from the wall.
  • Facility Issues: The pool was reported as not working in some instances. There were also mentions of elevator issues.
  • Room-Specific Problems: Complaints included a lack of screens on windows preventing them from being opened, creaky bathroom doors, and cleanliness issues like an "empty bucket and garbage" outside a window. Some found the dark decor in certain rooms to give a "suffocating feeling."
  • Noise Levels: Guests have reported noise from in-wall heaters, thin walls, and noisy neighbors.
  • Breakfast Options: Some reviews indicated limited breakfast options.
  • Parking: While free, parking availability can be an issue during peak times.

My hockey team recently had the pleasure of staying at the Laurel hotel, we could not have had a better experience! The rooms were spacious, the staff was amazing and the huge open social areas were perfect to relax and unwind at the end of the day. There was a large room they let the kids play knee hockey in and the adults could relax by the fire. Thank you for making our tournament weekend wo...

My family and I stayed at the BlueBird hotel back in October of 2025 for a wedding. We had a couple of issues sadly. The location of the BlueBird was amazing! It was a little walk down a big hill to the main street of beautiful Lake Placid. We did enjoy going to Roomers club at night which was a walk! But still doable.. Anyways! The pool was shut down at the time we went and that was disappointing...

Perfect, perfect location. Clean rooms. North facing room had view of lake. Very peaceful. A noticeably renovated building. A quiet weekday visit for me but I could see how it could be hectic if all rooms are filled. TV did not work and wasn’t fixed before leaving. I was given a WiFi password that expired hours later. Staff didn’t immediately know new password but was resolved shortly afterwards....

The Bluebird Hotel in Lake Placid is by far the worst place I have ever stayed. The rooms are extremely small with no space to move around comfortably. Everything feels cramped, and the cleanliness is unacceptable. The room and common areas were dirty and poorly maintained. There is no proper lock or deadbolt on the bathroom door, which is a serious issue when it comes to basic privacy and safety....

My husband and I stayed here over the New Year holiday. The location is great - so close to the main street and the view from the common area is beautiful. We were a little disappointed in some things for the price we paid. I believe the hotel just went under new management before our stay so they may need some time to make improvements. Things I'd change - it's all in the details to help guests ...

This is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful location! We stayed in a lake side King Junior Suite room. The view of Mirror Lake was just gorgeous. Beds were comfortable and enjoyed the extra space with the room. Location is great to walk into town and parking was great even for a crowded lot the first night we arrived. We also enjoyed the breakfast options before heading out on our hikes in the am. We...
