1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
August receives an overwhelmingly positive consensus, with guests frequently rating it as "Excellent" or "Fabulous." It boasts an impressive score of 8.8 based on over 700 reviews on one booking platform and a notable 19.1 out of 20 from verified MICHELIN Guide guests. The sentiment highlights its exceptional blend of historic charm and contemporary luxury, creating a tranquil sanctuary in the city.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently adore August for its stunning design, a masterful conversion of a former Augustinian convent by renowned Belgian architect Vincent Van Duysen. The peaceful ambiance, often described as retaining the "hush of the cloister," is a significant draw. The attentive, friendly, and professional staff receive frequent commendation. Other highlights include the Michelin-grade dining experience, the beautifully maintained walled gardens, and the impressive bar set within the soaring former chapel. The hotel also features a spa and an outdoor swimming pond for relaxation.
3. Room Quality
The hotel offers 44 rooms and suites, each uniquely designed to blend historical architectural elements with modern comforts. Guests describe the rooms as quiet, comfortable, spacious, and impeccably clean, often benefiting from high ceilings and abundant natural light. Standard amenities include comfortable king-size beds with Egyptian cotton bed linen, private bathrooms featuring walk-in showers and/or large bathtubs, and luxurious Le Labo toiletries. Rooms also come equipped with flat-screen TVs, air conditioning, Nespresso coffee machines, tea-making kits, and free WiFi.
4. Dining Experience
August provides a distinguished culinary experience. The restaurant, situated in the corridors surrounding the original chapel, offers an à la carte menu conceptualized by Chef Nick Bril, focusing on accessible yet creative dishes that adapt to seasonal ingredients. Dinner has been described as "Michelin-grade." Breakfast, available daily and now à la carte, is frequently praised as "really good," offering a full three courses with diverse options, including vegetarian and vegan choices. The bar, housed in the magnificent former chapel, serves elegant drinks and savory snacks in an atmospheric setting.
5. Service & Staff
The service at August is consistently highlighted as a strong point. Guests commend the staff for being exceptionally helpful, attentive, professional, and friendly, contributing significantly to a welcoming and pleasant stay.
6. Location & Accessibility
August is ideally situated in Antwerp's Green Quarter, a pedestrian-only development on the site of a former 19th-century military hospital. This location offers a peaceful and tranquil environment, providing a sanctuary away from the city's busier areas. Despite its secluded feel, it is conveniently accessible to major city attractions via Antwerp's tram service. The hotel is a short walk from the stunning Art Nouveau architecture of the Zurenborg district and close to the creative hub PAKT. Antwerp International Airport is approximately a 15-minute drive away, and Antwerp Berchem train station is under a 10-minute drive or a 15-minute walk. Limited private parking is available on-site for an additional charge.
7. Value & Pricing
August is considered a luxurious property, and while specific rates vary by room type and season, prices for a night's stay for two adults can start from around €153 or approximately $196.59. Given its Michelin Key selection, exceptional design, high-quality amenities, and superior service, guests generally perceive the hotel as offering excellent value for a refined and restorative experience.
8. Common Complaints
While August generally receives glowing reviews, minor criticisms are occasionally noted. One guest mentioned a less-than-welcoming experience and a lack of follow-up on a request for a luggage rack. The private use of the spa facilities incurs an additional cost, starting from €85 for one hour for two people, or at least €165 for two to three hours. Limited on-site parking is available for an extra charge of €30 per night, and availability cannot be guaranteed, necessitating advance booking.

August Antwerp offers a very refined and serene hotel experience, blending minimalist design with a strong sense of calm. The atmosphere feels thoughtfully curated and is especially appealing to couples who appreciate aesthetics, silence, and understated luxury. For couples who are instead searching for a purely private wellness pause without overnight accommodation, there are also options such a...

Amazing place to stay, it’s located in the quieter neighbourhood of Antwerp and our experience has been phenomenal. The staff members are attentive. We had a great facial and massage therapy. The design is beautifully minimal and authentic. Definitely will be back 🤍
Joyful Journeys
The dinner at August restaurant provided a wonderful dining experience. The food was expertly prepared, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. A notable feature is the extensive wine list, which offers a large selection of excellent wines, particularly white wines, which is quite exceptional. It's worth noting that hotel residency is not required to dine at the restaurant.

Beautiful place, non-existing culture of service. Staff are unprofessional and/or poorly trained. Not coming back and not recommending for a stay. Unfortunately, we did not have a good experience during our stay at your hotel. Over the past two years we have travelled extensively across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, encountering a wide range of accommodations—from excellent to mediocre—but our ...

For a really nice hotel this was a disappointing stay. Our room was very warm and we tried to run the fan to get some air circulation. It did not work and we were told that it was just a really quiet fan, then we were told that the fan needed to be fixed, then that the temperature was set too low and just needed to be changed, and then that the whole system needed 24 hours to restart. Every person...
