1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The overall sentiment for Wylder Hotel Tilghman Island is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently expressing their desire to return. It holds strong ratings across various platforms, including a 4.7 out of 5 rating on WeddingWire, and high scores for location (9.7), cleanliness (9.0), and staff (9.0) on Booking.com. Many describe it as a "beautiful property and view," a "stunning place," and a "paradise getaway from the city," emphasizing its tranquil and inviting atmosphere.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently rave about several key aspects of the Wylder Hotel Tilghman Island:
- Location & Views: The hotel's prime waterfront position on a 3-mile island offers "beautiful water views" and a "very scenic location". It's lauded for being "out of the way," yet still close enough to larger towns for convenience, providing a peaceful and secluded retreat.
- Design & Atmosphere: The hotel, a thoroughly updated 1898-vintage boarding house, seamlessly blends "contemporary boutique-hotel style" with "wonderful vintage charm". Guests love the "overall homey feel and immaculate decor," describing public spaces as "beautifully designed" and "pleasing".
- Amenities & Activities: The Wylder offers an impressive array of amenities that contribute to a "summer camp" like experience. These include a saltwater pool, a private marina with 25 boat slips, complimentary kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, canoes, and beach cruiser bicycles. Bocce and lawn darts are also available, and the hotel partners with local fishing charter captains. Pet-friendly policies are also a plus for many travelers.
- Service: The staff consistently receives high praise for being "very friendly and accommodating," "professional and welcoming," and "pleasant".
3. Room Quality
The rooms and suites at Wylder Hotel Tilghman Island are described as "redesigned in a contemporary-classic style". The decor incorporates "maritime colors and materials — wood and brass, sisal and rattan — reinforce the connection to the Chesapeake Bay seafaring life". Comfort is a priority, with rooms featuring "Egyptian cotton linens". Some accommodations, like the Waterfront King Suite, offer river views, air conditioning, and a spa tub. Guests have described the hotel rooms as "very cute".
4. Dining Experience
The hotel features two on-site restaurants: Tickler's Crab Shack & Restaurant and Bar Mumbo, both overseen by chef Sean Wheaton. The food, particularly at events like weddings, has been described as "fantastic" and "amazing". While a "complimentary breakfast" is mentioned as a beloved amenity, some past guests note a shift from a full-service hot breakfast under previous ownership to an "extended continental" offering. Maryland blue crab is a highlight of the Eastern Shore escape, and the Wylder embraces this local specialty.
5. Service & Staff
The service at Wylder Hotel Tilghman Island is consistently highlighted as exceptional. Guests frequently use terms like "very friendly and accommodating staff," "professional and welcoming," and "friendliest staff ever". For wedding events, specific team members like KD and Alyssa are commended for their organization, responsiveness, and ability to make events run smoothly.
6. Location & Accessibility
Located on Tilghman Island in the Chesapeake Bay, the hotel offers a serene and "secluded" setting. It is within "easy reach of Washington, D.C.," and a "short drive from Baltimore, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia," making it an accessible weekend getaway. The drive involves passing through St. Michael's and over a drawbridge, adding to the sense of a true escape. The island life is centered around the Chesapeake Bay, offering opportunities for charter fishing, sailing, and kayaking.
7. Value & Pricing
While specific daily room rates can vary, the hotel is generally perceived as offering good value for the experience provided. Priceline lists rooms from $123. It's important to note a "Resort Fee of $25 plus tax" is added, which covers amenities such as high-speed WiFi, access to the saltwater heated pool, stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, and beach cruiser bicycles. A pet fee of $50.00 per dog per night also applies. Guests often feel it's "worth the cost" due to the beautiful setting, extensive amenities, and overall relaxing atmosphere.
8. Common Complaints
The reviews are overwhelmingly positive, making common complaints less frequent. One minor point noted by a guest was that while expectations were met, they were "not exceeded," and that the property, while nicely maintained, is older. Another mentioned that the breakfast offering has changed from a hot, full-service meal to an extended continental option. However, these points appear to be minor in the context of the numerous positive experiences reported.

I had an amazing stay at Wylder Hotel Tilghman Island. I was in love with the waterfront view that looked epic for sunrise every morning. The room was very cozy and spacious enough for me and my friend. They offer free continental breakfast which is a bonus and they have a heated pool for the colder season. Don’t forget to check out their amazing onsite seafood restaurant, if you can’t eat all the...

Very expensive room for off-season. The hotel is really a glorified motel at the end of the day. My room had not been renovated, and the bathroom had an odor. A friends room had been renovated and wasnt much better. The entire room was musty and smelled like wet dog. The bathroom sink was located outside of the bathroom, which was odd. The lighting in the bathroom was dark and dull. The breakfast ...

We had an amazing time celebrating our anniversary at the Wylder. We loved having open access to the kayaks and bikes whenever we wanted. The waterfront sauna had amazing views. We enjoyed an amazing meal at Tickler's Crab shack - lobster risotto and crab cakes. Don't skip the Painkiller - best drink on the menu!
