Expert Review: The Tribune Hotel Rome
The Tribune Hotel Rome: A Comprehensive Review (Michelin Key Selected Property)
The Tribune Hotel Rome, a Michelin Key selected property and part of JdV by Hyatt, offers a modern and "quirky" boutique experience in the heart of Rome. Known for its appealing blend of contemporary design, prime location, and exceptional service, it stands out as a strong option for travelers seeking comfort and quality without necessarily the "over-the-top luxury" of some traditional high-end hotels.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The general consensus for The Tribune Hotel Rome is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently praising its value, location, and the quality of its service. It holds an overall rating of 8.9 on some platforms, with cleanliness scoring 8.7, comfort 8.5, and service 9.2. The Michelin Key selection further underlines its standing as a noteworthy hotel, based on post-stay ratings from verified guests. Many guests express a desire to return, highlighting a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently love several aspects of The Tribune Hotel Rome:
- Service & Staff: The staff receives frequent commendations for being exceptional, professional, warm, helpful, and eager to please.
- Location: Its excellent position in the Ludovisi neighborhood, adjacent to Villa Borghese and near Via Veneto, is a major draw, offering easy access to major attractions while feeling slightly removed from the busiest tourist areas.
- Design: The hotel's contemporary, stylish, and sometimes whimsical interior design, featuring art deco accents and vibrant colors, is appreciated by many, especially considering the drab exterior of the 1980s building.
- Dining: The complimentary breakfast and the rooftop restaurant, Terrazza Borghese, are often lauded for delicious food, stunning views, and great cocktails.
- Amenities: Thoughtfully appointed rooms often include an Illy coffee maker and a minifridge with free beverages for some guests (e.g., World of Hyatt Globalists). Free Wi-Fi is also a standard amenity.
3. Room Quality
The hotel features 52 elegant, comfortable, and fully equipped rooms and suites with a contemporary design. Rooms are described as modern, comfortable, and relatively spacious, with some even accommodating families of four. The decor often includes geometric black and white shapes with bold color accents. Amenities typically include a work desk, mini-bar, and Nespresso machines. Bathrooms, while sometimes small, are described as feeling luxurious with marble-type wall tiles and bespoke products (The Botanist & The Chemist brand). However, some guests have noted challenging bathroom layouts and potential noise issues.
4. Dining Experience
The dining experience at The Tribune Hotel Rome is a highlight for many. A "fabulous" complimentary breakfast is served, offering a large buffet with both hot foods (scrambled eggs, bacon, vegetables) and a selection of made-to-order dishes. The rooftop restaurant, Terrazza Borghese, offers fine Italian cuisine with fresh ingredients and provides stunning panoramic views over the lush Villa Borghese park. Guests have enjoyed delicious appetizers like cacio e pepe and creamy cheesecake, alongside fantastic cocktails and bar snacks.
5. Service & Staff
The service and staff at The Tribune Hotel Rome consistently receive high praise. Guests frequently describe the team as "exceptional," "helpful," "friendly," "accommodating," and "professional." Specific examples include staff going "above and beyond" to retrieve forgotten items and being attentive to guests' needs, such as assisting with taxis or directions. The staff's proficiency in English is also a valued aspect, making guests feel welcomed and valued.
6. Location & Accessibility
The hotel boasts an excellent location in the Ludovisi neighborhood, off Via Veneto, and directly next to the famous Villa Borghese park. This puts it within striking distance of many of Rome's famous attractions. The Spanish Steps are about a 10-15 minute walk away, the Trevi Fountain about 15-20 minutes, and the Roman Forum approximately 30 minutes on foot. The U.S. embassy is also close by. While not in the immediate vicinity of all main tourist attractions, its proximity to public transportation (Spagna Metro Station is a 10-minute walk) and taxi services makes exploring Rome convenient. The location is appreciated for being peaceful, just outside the main touristy areas. However, accessibility can be limited, with stairs to the entrance and a small elevator that may not accommodate wheelchairs.
7. Value & Pricing
The Tribune Hotel Rome is generally considered to offer decent value, particularly for World of Hyatt members who can book with points, making it an economical option in an otherwise expensive city. Cash rates can fluctuate significantly, sometimes exceeding $500 (or €550) per night, positioning it as an upscale choice. However, guests often feel the service, modern amenities, and prime location justify the cost.
8. Common Complaints
While largely positive, some recurring criticisms and issues have been noted by guests:
- Noise Issues: Rooms can be noisy due to street sounds or poor soundproofing within the building, which may affect light sleepers.
- Limited Amenities: Beyond the rooftop restaurant/bar and a small gym, the hotel lacks extensive amenities such as a spa or a swimming pool.
- Elevator: The elevator is described as small and can be problematic, leading some guests to use the stairs, which can be a "haul."
- Exterior: The building's exterior, built in the 1980s, is sometimes described as "drab," contrasting sharply with the stylish interiors.
- AC Performance: There have been isolated complaints about the air conditioning not being strong enough, especially during warmer months.
- Isolated Staff Incidents: While overall staff feedback is excellent, a few rare instances of perceived unprofessional behavior, such as warnings about making noise or losing keys, have been reported.

Awesome hotel, great spot! Amazing front desk and they give you the recommendation for famous eateries and a map of the populat tourist spots. All the famous places are just a 20-40 minute walk away. It's right across from the beautiful, green gardens of Villa Borghese. They have a fantastic breakfast spread and an amazing restaurant for dinner on the rooftop.

I loved, loved, loved this hotel. The location is perfect, the staff is friendly and helpful. It's close enough to all the sites that I could easily walk everywhere, yet was not in the heart of the tourist areas, so it was quiet with wonderful restaurants nearby (You must walk to Gelateria I Caruso for authentic gelato!) . As many people have commented, the hotel itself can be noisy, but I brou...

The Tribune Hotel From the moment we arrived, the super friendly staff made a wonderful first impression. The hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood, less than a 10-minute walk from the Borghese Gallery. If you prefer staying away from large crowds and busy streets in the evenings, this is a great choice. That said, don’t get me wrong—it’s still within walking distance of many major attraction...
