The Queensberry Hotel in Bath, a distinguished Michelin Key One-Key property, consistently receives high praise for its blend of Georgian charm, contemporary luxury, and exceptional service. Guests frequently describe it as a memorable and highly recommended destination in Bath.

Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus among guests is overwhelmingly positive, with many rating their stay as superb. Review scores consistently highlight excellent staff, comfort, cleanliness, and location. The hotel is often described as feeling more like a luxurious private home than a traditional hotel, offering a personal and welcoming atmosphere.

Key Highlights

Guests consistently laud several aspects of The Queensberry Hotel:

  • Service & Staff: The attentive, professional, and friendly staff are frequently cited as a major highlight, providing impeccable service that makes guests feel valued and well-cared for.
  • Location: Its central yet quiet location in the heart of Georgian Bath is highly appreciated, being just a short walk from major attractions like The Circus, Royal Crescent, Roman Baths, and Bath Abbey.
  • Design & Ambiance: Housed within three or four historic Georgian townhouses, the hotel beautifully blends modern style with historic architecture. The decor is described as utterly tasteful, sophisticated yet homely, and with a relaxed opulence.
  • Dining: The presence of The Olive Tree, Bath's only Michelin-starred restaurant, is a significant draw and a consistent highlight for guests.
  • Amenities: Valet parking is available, and complimentary tea and coffee are served in the drawing-room. Free WiFi is available throughout the property.

Room Quality

The 29 rooms and suites at The Queensberry Hotel are individually decorated, ensuring no two are the same. They are consistently described as comfortable, clean, and luxurious, with a strong sense of timeless style. Rooms range in size from Club and Classic Doubles to Four Poster and Junior Suites, with options to suit various budgets. Guests praise the soft neutrals, modern style, and luxurious feel that still retains a traditional charm. Many rooms feature impressive bathrooms, some with large bathtubs or freestanding roll-top baths, and amenities like flat-screen TVs, digital radios with Bluetooth, and quality toiletries. Some suites boast high ceilings, fireplaces, and floor-to-ceiling windows.

Dining Experience

The Queensberry Hotel is home to The Olive Tree, Bath's only Michelin-starred restaurant, which also holds 4 AA Rosettes. Under the direction of Head Chef Chris Cleghorn, the restaurant offers modern British cuisine with an emphasis on local and seasonal produce. Guests rave about the creative dishes, impeccable service, and excellent wine pairings. Vegan tasting menus are also highly recommended.

Breakfast, served in The Olive Tree, is an à la carte experience with a generous allowance per person. Options include locally-sourced full English breakfasts, eggs Benedict, homemade crumpets, granola, and various other hot and continental choices, all praised for their quality. The Old Q Bar offers an eclectic mix of classic and fun cocktails and spirits in a stylish, "Quintessentially British" setting.

Service & Staff

The service at The Queensberry Hotel is consistently highlighted as exceptional, professional, kind, and attentive. Staff members are noted for their warmth, helpfulness, and ability to anticipate needs, from valet parking to bringing ice to rooms. The hotel's ownership by a husband-and-wife team contributes to a personal touch and a feeling of staying at a wealthy friend's house.

Location & Accessibility

The hotel boasts an excellent and convenient location on Russell Street, a quiet street in Bath's Upper Town district. It's just a stone's throw from The Circus and a short walk (5-15 minutes) to iconic attractions such as the Royal Crescent, Fashion Museum, Assembly Rooms, Roman Baths, and Bath Abbey. While centrally located, it offers a peaceful retreat away from the main bustle.

It's important to note that the property is located on one of Bath's hills, which might pose a challenge for guests with mobility issues due to a steep climb from the city center and the fact that not all rooms are accessible by lift. Valet parking is available for a surcharge.

Value & Pricing

Room prices at The Queensberry Hotel typically start from around £145 per night, with suites ranging up to £400+, depending on the season and availability. Valet parking incurs an additional charge, which some guests feel should be included given the price point. Dining at The Olive Tree offers various options, with set menus starting from £60 for two dishes and a seven-course tasting menu at £185, with wine pairings available. While considered a luxury stay, many guests find the overall experience, especially the service and dining, to be well worth the cost.

Common Complaints

While overwhelmingly positive, a few minor recurring points of feedback have been noted:

  • Lack of In-Room Tea/Coffee Facilities: Some guests expressed disappointment at the absence of tea and coffee making facilities in their rooms, although complimentary tea and coffee are available in the drawing-room and via 24-hour room service.
  • No Mini-Bar: Similar to the above, the absence of a mini-bar in rooms is sometimes mentioned, with drinks instead available through 24-hour room service.
  • Parking/Breakfast Not Included: A few guests felt that at the hotel's price point, either parking or breakfast should be included rather than being an additional cost.
  • No Bathtub in All Rooms: While many rooms feature luxurious baths, some guests specifically noted that their room did not include a bathtub.
  • Room Temperature: One review mentioned a room being cold and the radiator not adequately warming it.

What a fantastic experience we all had at the Queensbury this weekend. Perfect location close enough to all the historic sites in Bath which we wanted to visit and yet peaceful and calm in the evenings. Perfect relaxed atmosphere in the lounge and bar area. Very attentive staff who were not only on hand to assist but anticipated our needs. The Rooms were all excellent, lots of space to relax an...

This was how our ‘turndown service’ was left! It is a fairly basic hotel, but it does provide everything you need for a comfortable stay. The room was equipped with both air conditioning and heating, which worked well, and overall it did the job. The bathrooms were modern and well designed with a high level finish. That said, the price point feels high for what is offered. This is likely driven ...

We stayed here for only one night but absolutely loved our time here. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly, the rooms were beautifully presented and comfortable, and the breakfast was excellent. We would love to come back! The valet parking service was also very useful as parking can be difficult in the centre of Bath.

Had a brilliant stay at The Queensbury Hotel. The building has real character, with a warm, traditional feel but still very clean and comfortable. Our room was spacious, tidy, and well looked after. The staff were excellent — friendly, helpful, and genuinely welcoming from the moment we arrived. Location is perfect too: quiet enough to relax, but just a short walk to all the main sights in Bath. ...

Can’t rave about this place enough! Valet service was seamless, got to check-in early, received a very nice welcome and we received a room upgrade too which was a nice surprise! The room was so spacious and beautiful! Complimentary bottle of Cava was there when we arrived, and they even offer a shoe polish service which was also a nice touch. Breakfast at their Michelin-star restaurant was also gr...
