The Nox Hotel, Utrecht City: A Michelin Key Selected Urban Retreat
The Nox Hotel in Utrecht City, a Michelin Key Selected property, consistently receives high praise from guests for its blend of modern design, exceptional service, and prime central location. Housed in a beautifully transformed 17th-century building, this 4-star boutique hotel offers a luxurious and comfortable stay, making it a top choice for travelers seeking both elegance and convenience.
Overall Rating & Sentiment
The general consensus for The Nox Hotel is overwhelmingly positive, with an impressive overall rating often around 8.9 to 9.1 out of 10 across various platforms. Guests frequently describe their stays as "fabulous" and "excellent," highlighting the hotel's ability to deliver a memorable and enjoyable experience.
Key Highlights
Guests consistently laud several aspects of The Nox Hotel. Its central location, modern and elegant design, and the exceptional friendliness and professionalism of the staff are frequently mentioned as standout features. The hotel's commitment to creating a cozy and luxurious atmosphere, often with a unique "lunar-themed" accent, is also a significant draw. Amenities such as free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and a well-regarded on-site restaurant further contribute to guest satisfaction.
Room Quality
The Nox Hotel offers a variety of elegantly decorated rooms, including Small Double, Standard Double, Large Double, Suite, Deluxe Triple, and Deluxe Family rooms. Rooms are generally described as clean, modern, comfortable, and well-thought-out, often featuring a deep blue color palette. Guests appreciate the plush Queen or King beds, air conditioning, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, and coffee/tea making facilities. Some unique rooms even boast private patios or balconies with stunning views of the city, including the iconic Dom Tower, and luxurious touches like bathtubs on balconies. Bathrooms are typically equipped with a separate toilet and shower, along with provided hairdryers and bath sheets, and some guests noted the quality of the shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion.
Dining Experience
The hotel features the on-site restaurant, Hemel & Aarde, which specializes in local and international cuisine and is open for both breakfast and dinner. The restaurant is known for its appealing menu of creative yet seasonal dishes prepared by top chefs.
Breakfast at The Nox Hotel is described as delicious, excellent quality, and beautifully presented. It typically consists of a base served at the table, including croissants, farmer's bread with various toppings, seasonal fruit, coffee or tea, and seasonal juice. Guests can also order additional dishes from a menu, such as boiled or scrambled eggs, Eggs Benedict, egg avocado, yogurt with granola, chai bowls, oatmeal, French toast, pancakes, and honey croissants. While breakfast is highly praised, some guests noted its cost (€27.50 per person or €22.50 for a more basic option) and that the offerings could become slightly monotonous for longer stays.
Service & Staff
The service and staff at The Nox Hotel receive consistent commendation. Guests frequently highlight the staff as friendly, helpful, professional, and welcoming. Reviewers often mention the "confident and relaxed professionalism" of the team, contributing significantly to a wonderful guest experience. Services such as a 24-hour front desk, concierge, dry cleaning, laundry service, and luggage storage are available, further enhancing the convenience for guests.
Location & Accessibility
The Nox Hotel boasts an exceptional central location in the heart of Utrecht's old town, often described as being "a stone's throw away from the Dom Tower." This prime position allows for easy walking access to numerous attractions, including the Dom Tower (450 meters away), Museum Speelklok, TivoliVredenburg, Janskerk, St Martin's Cathedral, and Neude Square. Public transportation is also easily accessible, with bus stops like Janskerkhof just a 5-minute walk away and Utrecht Maliebaan train station about a 15-minute walk. The hotel is situated in a vibrant area but often noted for being on a quiet street, offering a peaceful retreat amidst the city's bustle. Private parking is available on-site, though it requires a reservation and incurs a daily fee.
Value & Pricing
Many guests consider The Nox Hotel to offer excellent value for money, despite being a luxury property. With an average price per room around $199, compared to Utrecht's average of $163, guests often feel the exceptional amenities, service, and location justify the cost. Prices can vary depending on travel dates and room type, with rooms starting from approximately $123 to $145 and reaching higher for suites or on peak days like Saturdays. The quality of the rooms and the overall experience are frequently cited as being well worth the expense.
Common Complaints
While overwhelmingly positive, some minor recurring issues have been mentioned by guests. A few reviewers found some standard rooms to be small, particularly for two people with luggage. There were isolated comments about rooms needing better cleaning or having some dust, and occasionally limited power outlets. The breakfast, while delicious, was noted by some as being expensive and potentially monotonous for longer stays. One guest also mentioned an issue with extended parking fees after checkout despite being within the initial 24-hour period.

A sexy quiet corner in the heart of Utrecht. I loved the design of this hotel and the location is absolutely unbeatable. For the price point, I was very happy with my stay. I stayed in the half moon room, which was beautifully decorated in dark motifs. The toilet is on the opposite side of the sink and shower, which I found inconvenient, and in the half moon room there was only a small shower sta...

A lovely boutique hotel, the staff were super friendly and helpful. Our room was well equipped with a lovely coffee machine, speciality tea and filtered water. The bathroom was clean and also well equipped with shampoo, conditioner and body lotion, which is not always provided. We had breakfast on one day, because it was quite expensive, but it was excellent quality, beautifully presented and s...

So the bedroom that I stayed in was the sort of flagship bedroom, I suppose, of the hotel. It features the main page on the website and had a bath sort of on a balcony above the bed, which was beautiful. And it had its own balcony. It had lovely windows with beautiful views of the Utrecht city, I suppose, the main attractions like the clock tower and stuff like that. So beautiful, amazing views. B...

This hotel is in an ideal location to walking to the central sites of Utrecht. We had the family sleeper room and the room was very good. The bathroom set up was slightly odd, but worked well enough. We booked online and were greeted with a free glass of champagne on arrival.

Unfortunately, our stay was quite disappointing. The air conditioning was extremely loud and seemed to have a mind of its own, repeatedly turning itself on throughout the night. As a result, I only managed to sleep for about an hour. The room itself was very small and not properly cleaned, with a noticeable amount of dust. The shower also had a very weak water flow, which made it uncomfortable to...
