Expert Review: The Knot Yokohama
The Knot Yokohama, recognized as a Michelin Key Selected property, consistently earns high praise for its blend of modern comfort, stylish design, and exceptional service in a highly convenient location. Guests frequently highlight its excellent value for money, making it a popular choice for travelers visiting Yokohama.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The Knot Yokohama enjoys an overwhelmingly positive sentiment, reflected in its "Excellent" ratings and an average score of 8.3 on platforms like Agoda and Booking.com. Trip.com also reports a strong 9/10 score from over 200 reviews, emphasizing its quality and value. Reviewers consistently describe their stays as fantastic, appreciating the hotel's welcoming vibe, warm atmosphere, and overall comfort.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently laud The Knot Yokohama for several standout features. Its excellent service is a major highlight, with a rating of 8.683 on Agoda. The hotel's prime location, just a short walk from Yokohama Station, is frequently praised for its convenience. The modern and chic design, particularly the stylish lobby and comfortable lounge on the second floor, contributes significantly to the guest experience. Amenities like the self-service laundromat are also appreciated by travelers. As a boutique hotel that reimagines the historic Yokohama Kokusai Hotel, it offers a sophisticated yet comfortable home base.
3. Room Quality
The Knot Yokohama features 145 well-appointed rooms spread across 10 floors, available in various configurations including semi-double, double, twin, family twin, and suites. The rooms are thoughtfully designed to evoke the feel of cruise liner cabins, incorporating vintage American-style furnishings and handsome wooden accents, many of which are custom-made in collaboration with Japan's Acme interior decor firm. Each room is equipped with a flat-screen TV, refrigerator, electric kettle with coffee amenities, a spacious desk, and provided nightwear. Bathrooms include essential toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, body soap, hand soap, toothbrushes, hairbrushes, razors, cotton swabs, towels, and a hairdryer. While many guests find the beds comfortable, some reviews mention pillows being a bit thin. Guests note that the bathrooms, while fully functional and well-equipped, can be on the smaller side. Room cleaning is part of the hotel's SDG commitment, with a full clean every three nights after the fourth night, and daily towel and bin service upon request.
4. Dining Experience
The hotel features an on-site Chinese and Western fusion restaurant named Panwok, which serves a buffet breakfast daily from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM (last entry 9:30 AM) for 2,000 yen per person. Panwok also offers lunch and dinner, focusing on fresh flavors and local ingredients sourced within a 50 km radius of Yokohama. Guests have positively reviewed the "delicious food" served at the restaurant. Another dining option, SMOKE DOOR, offers Western/American steak and hamburger dishes, with an English menu and English-speaking staff available.
5. Service & Staff
The service and staff at The Knot Yokohama consistently receive outstanding ratings, with guests praising their friendliness, helpfulness, and attentiveness. The staff, some of whom are English-speaking, are noted for going above and beyond to ensure a memorable stay. A 24-hour front desk is available, offering services like luggage storage both before and after check-out.
6. Location & Accessibility
The hotel boasts an exceptional location, described as "superb" and "fantastic," just a 5-minute walk from the West Exit of JR Yokohama Train Station. This prime spot provides easy access to a wealth of shops, eateries, and public transportation. Nearby attractions include Minato Mirai Subway Station and Yokohama Museum of Art (15-minute train ride), Yokohama Chinatown and Yokohama Stadium (20-minute train ride), Anpanman Museum (13-minute walk), and K-Arena Yokohama (14-minute walk). Haneda Airport is also conveniently accessible, being a 35-minute train ride away. Additionally, a 24-hour Lawson convenience store is located just one minute from the hotel.
7. Value & Pricing
The Knot Yokohama is widely recognized for its "excellent value for money," often costing less than the average for 3-star hotels in Yokohama. With an average room price around $102, compared to the city's average of $118, it offers an affordable yet high-quality experience. Nightly rates can range, with examples from $32 to $122, and a 1-night stay for two adults can start from approximately ¥7,341 (around $49.49). Parking is available nearby for an additional cost of 2,000-2,100 yen per night.
8. Common Complaints
While largely positive, some recurring comments include the observation that bathrooms can be a "bit smaller" or "a little cramped" compared to other hotels. A review from 2016 noted an older toilet and a bathtub that seemed "almost breaking," though more recent reviews generally praise cleanliness. Some guests have mentioned the pillows being thin. The hotel also operates on an environmentally friendly policy where full room cleaning is not done daily for free; instead, towels are changed and bins emptied upon request, with full cleaning incurring an extra charge. A minor point of concern was a smoking area near the Vibre building that could make the back approach to the hotel feel gloomy at night.

Incredible value for the location. You truly can’t beat it that close to the station! Perfectly adequate room even by western standards, although the bathroom left a bit to be desired - esp the lack of ventilation. But I’d stay again anytime.

Super cute. On the first floor. And the front desk. But the room 😭 smaller than a cruise ship room, no ac. They tell you to open the windows even when it’s raining if you’re hot. Only heat in the room. You are given a real key that has to be returned to the desk every time you leave the building. Overall I wouldn’t have wanted to stay here had the Expedia ad said anything about no ac. 16 days and...

I've stayed at The Knot Yokohama four times now, it's a wonderful little 'artsy' hotel with a lot of character. It's a great location just a few blocks from the train station. The bar is excellent with a professional bartender that really knows what he is doing. My only complaint is that the rooms are very small, even by Japanese standards.

Great location so close to shops and eating area. We had a great time walking around exploring the little streets. Not close to the popular sight seeing things BUT it’s a short ride away on train. Loved the service by the older gentleman’s. The room was big enough for the two of us.

I've booked this hotel in March 2025 for a week. The hotel in itself is old, the carpet smells old, the furnitures are old. I've booked the large double room for a week and my stay was not worth the money I've spent. The carpet is my room had multiple large black and white spills. The bathroom faucet was cracked. Also I've opted for less cleaning, and the staff gave me two sets of pyjamas, towels,...

Fantastic hotel, located close to Yokohama station. The staff are super friendly and made the stay amazing, especially helping us to check in after a 14 hour flight from Canada. Lots of shopping and restaurants in the area as well.
