1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The overall sentiment for The Foundry Suites Athens is exceptionally positive, with many guests giving it top marks. Reviews frequently use terms like "exceptional," "wonderful," and "perfect" to describe their experience. The hotel is often highlighted as one of the best places guests have ever stayed, with many intending to book again for future visits to Athens.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently praise several standout features of The Foundry Suites Athens. The most frequently mentioned highlights include:

  • Design & Ambiance: The hotel's unique industrial design, combined with a mid-century modern aesthetic, is a major draw. Housed in a former 1930s type foundry, the building retains its authentic character while offering a "modern oasis".
  • Rooftop Garden: The stunning rooftop terrace, a lush Mediterranean garden with over 30 species of plants, offers incredible panoramic views of the Acropolis, making it a favorite spot for breakfast, drinks, and relaxation.
  • Exceptional Service: The staff's warmth, attentiveness, and willingness to go "above and beyond" are consistently highlighted as a key factor in guest satisfaction.
  • Central Location: Its prime position in the vibrant Psirri district allows for easy walking access to major historical sites, shopping, and nightlife.

3. Room Quality

The Foundry Suites offers only suites or apartments, not standard rooms, each boasting a distinct industrial-chic design with a retro touch. These accommodations are described as spacious, modern, and beautifully designed. Key features include:

  • Design Elements: High ceilings, large steel-framed windows (some with gear-based opening mechanisms), exposed stone walls, parquet or terrazzo floors, and a mix of vintage and modern furnishings create a unique atmosphere.
  • Comfort & Amenities: Rooms come with memory foam mattresses, high-quality COCO-MAT beds, and pillow menus, ensuring comfort. They are equipped with air conditioning, high-quality toiletries, and free water. Many suites feature fully equipped kitchens, built-in workspaces, and marble-lined bathrooms.
  • Unique Touches: Some suites offer private patios, record players with a selection of vinyl (records can be borrowed from reception), or even a piano. Loft suites provide two levels of living space connected by a floating staircase. However, some rooms do not have TVs.

4. Dining Experience

The Foundry Suites does not have a traditional on-site restaurant for all meals. Instead, a unique and highly praised breakfast experience is offered:

  • Breakfast: Guests can pre-order from a diverse menu that includes classic continental items and Greek specialties like eggs, omelets, cold cuts, cheese, Greek yogurt, spanakopita, and fresh juices. Breakfast is delivered daily in a charming picnic basket to the suite or can be enjoyed on the rooftop garden. The food is sourced from The Athenian Deli across the street.
  • Rooftop Bar & Dining: The rooftop garden transforms into a lively bar in the afternoon and evening, serving gourmet Neapolitan-style pizzas, cocktails, and a selection of Greek wines and craft beers. This spot is particularly popular for enjoying sunset views over the Acropolis.

5. Service & Staff

The service and staff at The Foundry Suites Athens are consistently rated as "exceptional" and are a significant highlight for many guests. Guests report being greeted warmly, offered water upon arrival, and receiving personalized recommendations for attractions and dining. The team is described as friendly, attentive, always smiling, and willing to "go above and beyond" to ensure guests have a memorable stay. Examples include providing umbrellas during drizzle and offering helpful advice for airport transfers.

6. Location & Accessibility

The hotel boasts an excellent, central location in the vibrant Psirri (also spelled Psyri) district, known for its lively nightlife, diverse restaurants, and unique shops.

  • Proximity to Attractions: It's an 8-minute walk to Monastiraki Square and approximately a 20-minute walk to the Acropolis. Other major landmarks like the Ancient Agora, Temple of Olympian Zeus, and Ermou Street (the main shopping street) are also within easy walking distance.
  • Transport: The hotel is a short walk (about 7 minutes) from a metro station, providing direct access to Athens International Airport via the M3 train.
  • Neighborhood: While Psirri can be bustling and lively, guests generally find the hotel itself to be surprisingly quiet, especially with windows closed, and the area safe for walking at night.

7. Value & Pricing

While positioned as a luxury boutique hotel, The Foundry Suites Athens is often considered to offer "great bang for your buck" compared to luxury accommodations in other European capitals. Many guests attest to it being "one of the best Value for Money" options in Athens, despite being more expensive than some budget hotels in the city. Pricing is generally seen as reasonable for the quality, spaciousness, and amenities provided.

8. Common Complaints

While overwhelmingly positive, some minor criticisms and considerations have been noted by guests:

  • Noise: Due to its central location in a lively district, some guests have mentioned potential street noise from nearby bars and restaurants. However, the hotel provides earplugs, and keeping windows closed generally mitigates this issue.
  • Parking: Parking in the area is described as challenging and expensive, with street parking potentially unsafe.
  • Room Configuration: One specific complaint mentioned an "oddly located" shower in front of the bed in some rooms, which could be a privacy concern for friends sharing a suite.
  • No TV in Rooms: Some guests might find the absence of televisions in the rooms a disadvantage.
  • No Microwave: A guest mentioned that a microwave would be a helpful addition to the kitchenettes.
  • Breakfast Temperature: Hot items in the breakfast basket are not always hot upon delivery.
  • Child Policy: Kids under 10 are generally not allowed, which means it might not be suitable for all families.

We had a wonderful four night stay at The Foundry Suites. The location is excellent with bars, shops and restaurants just a few minutes walk away - even the Acropolis is within walking distance. We stayed in D1 on the first floor - it was well appointed with plenty of space for 2 people and super stylish. The rooftop garden is great with fantastic views of the Acropolis. We popped up for some pre-...

The hotel is in walking distance to so many restaurants and bars in psyri, is close to monstiraki square. Rooftop garden has view of acropolis. Highly recommend staying here. We just spent four nights in this incredible hotel. Feels more like a flat , H1 suite. The design is unbelievable, authentic, made with love. We were welcomed by a wonderful staff, everyone with a warm smile and excellent suggestions. They were helpful and available anytime. The room was clean, the breakfast delicious and served on the top roof with an unmissable Acropolis view. We will be back.

This place is quite a delight. The room is appointed with everything you would need to stay for a month. Staff were overly helpful. The picnic breakfast was such a joy (make sure you enjoy on the roof garden if weather permits). Easy walk yo acropolis and the local area with eating options galore. On weekends they open the roof bar and the cocktails are to die for, and pizzas are pretty good.

I read about The Foundry in a UK newspaper city guide. What a fantastic find and base for our four night stay post cruise. We stayed in K2 which is perfect of you need two separate bedrooms, and kitchen facilities. We opted for the breakfast baskets daily at booking, and these were amazing, and with generous portions. I'll post some breakfast basket photos. The apartment photos on their website ar...
