Expert Review: Sofitel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills
Sofitel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills: A Comprehensive Review
The Sofitel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills, a Michelin Key Selected property, offers a blend of French elegance and Hollywood glamour, aiming for an urban resort feel in a prime Los Angeles location. Guest experiences generally reflect this dual identity, highlighting both its strengths and areas for improvement.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The general consensus for the Sofitel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills is largely positive, with an overall rating of "Very Good" based on numerous reviews, including an 8.3/10 score on Booking.com and 9.0 on Hotels.com. Guests often praise its cleanliness, comfortable beds, and convenient location. However, some recent feedback indicates a perception of the hotel and its rooms being "a bit dated" or "stuck in the 1980s," alongside recurring criticisms regarding service quality and high additional charges.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently love the hotel's prime location, which offers easy access to significant attractions and shopping. The friendly and helpful staff, particularly at the front desk and valet, also receive high praise. The comfortable "cloud-like" beds are a frequent highlight, contributing to a restful stay. The on-site fitness center is notably well-equipped and considered one of the largest in any Los Angeles hotel. The hotel's dramatic decor and upscale ambiance contribute to a unique atmosphere. Additionally, the provision of reusable water bottles and filtered water stations on each floor is a thoughtful and appreciated initiative.
3. Room Quality
The Sofitel offers 295 guest rooms and suites across 10 floors, including upgraded suites and two Presidential suites. Rooms are generally described as comfortable, with some recent reviews noting them as spacious, modern, and clean, featuring natural daylight. Standard amenities include complimentary WiFi, signature bedding, luxurious French bath amenities (such as Lanvin or Balmain toiletries), rain showers, flat-screen TVs, and MP3 docking station alarm clocks. Many upper-floor rooms and suites boast impressive views of the Hollywood Hills.
However, recent feedback also suggests that some rooms may feel "mediocre and dated," with issues like sagging mattresses and flickering lamps. A notable complaint is the lack of direct outlets for charging modern electronic devices, requiring guests to use their own wall plugs. Views advertised as "Hollywood Hills View" can sometimes be obstructed by trees or overlook a loud fan.
4. Dining Experience
The hotel features Esterel Restaurant, which offers French-American cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Guests can enjoy a diverse menu emphasizing fresh, seasonal ingredients, with breakfast options including Continental, Vegetarian, American, and à la carte choices. Specific recommendations include their French toast. Esterel is also praised for its romantic garden seating with heat lamps and live jazz music, creating an elegant and romantic dining atmosphere. The restaurant actively engages with the local community and is seen by many locals as a hidden gem for quality food and an inviting ambiance.
Riviera 31 is the hotel's sophisticated cocktail lounge, renowned for its exceptional live entertainment program, including jazz nights, blues & grooves, and burlesque performances. It's a popular hotspot known for its fine spirits and mixology cocktails, with a bar menu that reflects the diversity of Los Angeles. The lounge's design combines the opulence of the French Riviera with California style. Room service is also available daily for breakfast and dinner.
5. Service & Staff
The service and staff at Sofitel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills frequently receive high praise for being friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Guests have reported exceptional customer service from the front desk, bellhops, room service, and restaurant staff. Specific mentions include staff going out of their way to ensure a great stay, assisting with early check-ins, and providing valuable local recommendations. Turn-down service is also appreciated by guests.
6. Location & Accessibility
The hotel boasts an "amazing" and "very convenient" location at the corner of Beverly Boulevard and La Cienega. It is directly across from the Beverly Center, offering extensive shopping and dining options, and close to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Other popular attractions nearby include Rodeo Drive, Melrose Avenue, Sunset Boulevard, The Grove, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), all within a short drive. While convenient for accessing various parts of LA, the city's spread-out nature means no single location is entirely convenient for everything. The hotel is approximately a 25-minute drive from LAX, though traffic can extend this to an hour.
7. Value & Pricing
The Sofitel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills is considered a luxury hotel, and its pricing reflects this. Room rates can vary significantly, with the cheapest deals generally found in November and December. While many guests find the overall experience worthwhile, some express concerns about the value, particularly regarding additional charges. A daily resort fee is applied, covering amenities like Wi-Fi, business center access, and in-room bottled water. Valet parking is the only option available and is notably expensive, costing between $79 and $89 per day. Breakfast, if not included in the booking, is à la carte and can be considered overpriced by some guests.
8. Common Complaints
Several recurring issues and criticisms emerge from guest reviews:
- Dated Rooms: Despite some positive descriptions, a significant number of recent reviews mention that rooms feel "older than expected" or "dated," with some guests feeling the hotel is not equipped for contemporary travelers.
- Poor Wi-Fi: The internet connection throughout the hotel is a major complaint, with many guests reporting extremely slow speeds, even slower than airplane Wi-Fi, making it unsuitable for business travelers.
- High Parking Fees: The mandatory valet parking is consistently cited as very expensive, adding a substantial cost to the stay.
- Unclear Additional Charges: Some guests have expressed frustration over additional charges (like destination or gratuity fees) that were not clearly communicated.
- Service Inconsistencies: While staff generally receive high praise, there have been isolated complaints regarding service quality, including issues with room assignments and maintenance requests not being addressed.
- Small Pool with Unsightly Views: The outdoor pool is described as small and can be affected by street noise, with views sometimes overlooking the adjacent mall rather than offering a serene escape.
- Limited Room Service/Dining Hours: One recent review noted a lack of food or room service during lunch hours (from noon to 5 PM).

Everything was great, the rooms are clean, the staff is lovely, the gym is excellent, the restaurant has great food. My 9 rather than 10 is that although my shower head was cleaned it was still weak (for someone with a curly hair like mine washing my hair in such conditions is not fun). The other issue that I had but am not sure how it can be fixed is that the towels closet for the room service we...

I attended a day party here in a beautifully designed area with a dedicated entrance near the main entrance. This area featured 2 bars, a self photo studio area (to take pics of self or group of friends), a large formal dining area, several comfortable lunges and a patio area (for smoking/smokers). The DJs for this event kept the music going and the large dance floor remained full with people e...

Loved our stay here in early January 2026. Had an amazing one bedroom suite with a lovely view, walk in wardrobe and bath. Enjoyed it so much we ended up staying for another three nights in a different room. Valet parking is expensive (even more than Hawaii), but the friendly efficient service from Wally and the team was fantastic. I hope to stay at the Sofitel BH when I’m back in LA.

We stayed here for 3 nights and the overall stay was good. The reception staff was warm and welcoming and provided a hassle free check in. The breakfast team was just exceptional. The lady who is the welcome desk at the breakfast zone is just so warm and elevates the whole experience. Its a very strange breakfast spread where you can choose only 1 menu along with coffee and orange juice. While the...

Very cute spot. Not super luxe, but service was great for me and as long as you get what it is, it does the trick. Super clean. I have to dock it one star because the wifi is extremely slow. Have stayed here twice and issues both times. It does make it harder to stay when the internet doesn't work well. Otherwise, it's great!

My honey and I made last-minute plans to stay at the Sofitel last weekend. This spur-of-the-moment decision made for such a cozy experience during a heavy weekend of rain. The interior design of the lobby is quite remarkably chic, and the exceptional customer service was a great addition to the experience. Although we couldn't make use of any of the outdoor facilities due to the rain, my personal ...
