Expert Review: Six Senses Rome
Six Senses Rome: A Sanctuary of Serenity in the Heart of the Eternal City
Six Senses Rome, a Michelin One-Key property, has quickly established itself as a standout luxury destination, earning high praise for its ability to blend ancient Roman heritage with contemporary wellness and sustainable practices. Housed in a meticulously restored 15th-century palazzo, the hotel offers a tranquil retreat amidst the bustling Roman landscape, delivering an experience that often leaves guests feeling "spoiled" for future visits to the city.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The general consensus for Six Senses Rome is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently describing it as "impressive," "magnificent," and an "oasis of calm." Many travelers emphasize that it offers a unique and exceptional experience, competing with other top luxury brands like Four Seasons and Mandarin Oriental. The hotel maintains a high rating for cleanliness, comfort, facilities, and location, though value for money and breakfast service receive slightly lower, though still positive, scores from some.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently laud the hotel's phenomenal location, stunning spa facilities, and beautiful design. The commitment to wellness and sustainability, including eco-friendly building materials, 100% green power, and the elimination of single-use plastics, is also a significant draw. The rooftop terrace with city views and the serene garden provide additional spaces for relaxation.
3. Room Quality
The rooms at Six Senses Rome are celebrated for their exceptional quality, comfort, and unique design. No two rooms are exactly alike due to the historical constraints of the building. They are characterized by a beautiful, warm design utilizing natural materials such as travertine stone, wooden paneling, and limewashed walls, evoking a connection to Rome's history while offering modern luxury. Guests appreciate the spacious layouts, high-end finishes, and amenities like complimentary non-alcoholic minibars, Lavazza coffee machines, and a pillow menu. Despite its central location, the rooms are remarkably quiet thanks to excellent soundproofing. While standard rooms might not be the largest, the top-tier suites are described as vast.
4. Dining Experience
The dining experience centers around BIVIUM, the hotel's main restaurant, bar, and cafe, located in a modern courtyard extension. It offers an all-day, ultra-sustainable modern Italian menu with a strong emphasis on locally sourced, often plant-based ingredients. While some guests noted a less expansive breakfast buffet, the à la carte options, such as poached eggs with hummus and salsa verde, are praised for their delicious and innovative twists. Unexpected offerings like ice cream at breakfast have also been a pleasant surprise for some. The rooftop terrace, NOTOS Rooftop, provides botanical-inspired cocktails and offers panoramic city views, particularly at sunset. While the food is generally considered very good, some guests have found the overall culinary experience to be "a little light on the mouth-watering and satisfying dishes that make Italian cuisine so utterly divine" in its pursuit of healthy options. The service at breakfast is typically described as attentive and efficient.
5. Service & Staff
The service at Six Senses Rome is consistently described as "exceptional," "friendly," and "attentive." Staff members are praised for being responsive, helpful, and creating a personalized experience, making guests feel like "part of the hotel" rather than just a number. From swift assistance with luggage upon arrival to thoughtful touches at checkout, the team strives for perfection. However, one guest did note that the service, while friendly, wasn't "quite as intense as a Four Seasons where the staff tend to know you by name after a day." There was also an isolated complaint about terrible breakfast service and lack of assistance with luggage on a departure day, along with a promised receipt not being sent.
6. Location & Accessibility
The hotel boasts a "phenomenal" and "unique" location on Via del Corso, placing it "slap-bang in the middle" of Rome's historical heart. Major attractions such as the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Roman Forum, Colosseum, and Altar of the Fatherland are all within a 5-to-15-minute walk. Despite being on a bustling street, the hotel's entrance is set back, contributing to its tranquil atmosphere. Public transportation, including tram stops, is within a short walking distance. Accessibility features include an elevator, wheelchair-accessible paths, public washrooms, and concierge desks. Getting to and from Rome Fiumicino Airport by taxi takes approximately 30 minutes.
7. Value & Pricing
Six Senses Rome is positioned at the top end of Rome's luxury market, and as such, it is not a cheap hotel. Room rates consistently exceed €1,000 per night, with entry-level rooms starting around €626 and reaching upwards of €1,224 per night for a September weekend. Suites, like the two-bedroom Lata Suite, can command prices of over €9,694. While expensive, many guests feel the quality and experience justify the cost, deeming it "well worth a visit" for those who can afford it. IHG One Rewards points can be used, but require a substantial number of points (200,000+ per night, or nearly 300,000 points for an overnight stay), especially during peak periods.
8. Common Complaints
While overall satisfaction is very high, a few recurring criticisms have been noted:
- Breakfast Options: Some guests found the breakfast buffet less expansive than expected, preferring a wider variety of classic items, although the à la carte options were generally well-received. One isolated incident reported terrible breakfast service.
- Room Size: While the quality and design of the rooms are exceptional, some standard rooms were perceived as not "that big."
- Rooftop Bar Service: One guest found the service at the rooftop bar to be "slower" and "not so attentive" compared to the rest of the hotel, suggesting it didn't quite match the hotel's overall standard.
- Lack of Personalization (isolated): One Michelin Guide guest felt the hotel "did not feel personal at all," despite other reviews praising the staff's attentiveness.

How can I even begin to describe the amazing experience I had at that restaurant/bar? I went there for my birthday, by myself, and they made me feel so welcome. The staff was so warm, always smiling, and full of energy... this place just has a special vibe that's hard to find. I didn't expect much, but I left so happy. It's been a few days, but I still feel good about the whole experience. Seri...

What a truly special place in the heart of Rome! The moment we walked in to the hotel truly was magical. I am slightly obsessed with the interior design of the hotel, and you can feel how much thought and care went into making it feel sophisticated and cozy at the same time. I loved the view from our room (we even had a terrace though we only stepped out once as it was raining). Also for anyone ca...

Travel with Passion and Style
If you want to watch our full video review, find us on YouTube: travelwithpassionandstyle The atmosphere was clear almost immediately. Check-in was fast, warm, and personal. The building feels more like a private house than a hotel, calm and well balanced. Our room wasn’t large and the view was nothing special, but it was quiet, filled with natural light, and thoughtfully designed. What really ...

The perfect base for exploring the city with a phenomenal spa to relax after a long day. Check-in was flawless and the reception team all incredibly professional. Starters and cocktails at the restaurant were definitely a highlight. Regarding areas to improve, the different opening hours and available menus should be clearer and service much quicker.

Not worth it at all. One sense is enough here, as it is only visually pleasing. In this price range you want to feel abundance and not scarcity. Their 15+ EUR orange juice for example is literally a half filled glass with mostly ice and two sips of juice of non tasty oranges. Rooms look nice but are very small, same as the spa that also feels somehow unhygienic because there is no real shower?! .....
