Expert Review: Rosewood Hong Kong
The Rosewood Hong Kong, an esteemed Michelin Key Three-Keys property, consistently garners praise as one of the world's most exceptional luxury hotels, setting a benchmark for modern hospitality in the city. It is celebrated for its breathtaking views, sophisticated design, and unparalleled service, making it a "truly exceptional hotel with an incredible team."
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The overall sentiment for Rosewood Hong Kong is overwhelmingly positive, often described as an "extraordinary stay" and "the gem of a world-class brand." Guests consistently rate it highly, with many considering it the best luxury hotel in Asia and even among the top hotels globally. The hotel aims to provide a "home away from home" experience, characterized by elegance, warmth, and refined details.
2. Key Highlights
Guests are consistently captivated by several key aspects of the Rosewood Hong Kong:
- Stunning Views: The hotel offers panoramic views of Victoria Harbour and the iconic Hong Kong skyline from the majority of its rooms and public spaces.
- Exceptional Design: Designed by Tony Chi, the interiors are described as a "masterpiece of emotional design," combining understated contemporary aesthetics with luxurious, layered details, including deep wood grains, jade tones, silk-covered walls, and marble. The hotel also features an impressive art collection, including works by Henry Moore and Damien Hirst.
- World-Class Amenities: An entire floor is dedicated to wellness with the Asaya Spa, a 5-star Forbes-rated facility, which offers holistic treatments, an impressive 25-meter outdoor infinity pool overlooking Victoria Harbour, and a state-of-the-art 24/7 gym.
- Manor Club Experience: The Manor Club, located on the 40th floor, is frequently highlighted as one of the best club lounges globally, offering exclusive check-in, personalized service, and exceptional food and beverage presentations throughout the day, complete with an enormous outdoor terrace and stunning harbour views.
3. Room Quality
The rooms and suites are celebrated for their spaciousness, often starting at a generous 53 sqm (570 sqft) for entry-level categories, making them "incredibly spacious, for the entry level category." They evoke a residential feel rather than a typical hotel room, with luxurious materials like Loro Piana cashmere wall paneling and marble bathrooms. Features typically include floor-to-ceiling windows, comfortable beds, ample closet space, a well-stocked in-suite mini-bar, personal bar, and smart Toto toilets. Many rooms, particularly the Grand Harbour View and Premier Harbour View, offer breathtaking views of Victoria Harbour.
4. Dining Experience
Rosewood Hong Kong is a "dining powerhouse" with 11 distinct food and beverage outlets. Highlights include:
- Michelin-Starred Restaurants: The hotel boasts two Michelin-starred restaurants: The Legacy House (Cantonese cuisine) and CHAAT (Indian street food).
- Holt's Café: An upscale, modern take on traditional Hong Kong cha chaan tengs, serving a good breakfast spread that includes congee, dim sum, eggs benedict, and pastries.
- DarkSide: An award-winning cocktail and jazz lounge, known for its "dark spirits, vintage cigars, rich chocolate and sultry live jazz."
- Manor Club Dining: Guests with club access enjoy high-quality food presentations throughout the day, including breakfast, afternoon tea with substantial savory options like lobster rolls and wonton noodles, and evening canapés with featured dishes from the hotel's restaurants.
5. Service & Staff
The service at Rosewood Hong Kong is consistently described as "spectacular," "warm and welcoming," and highly attentive. Staff are noted for their professionalism, anticipating guest needs, remembering names and preferences, and delivering personalized service. For instance, personalized tea selections delivered to the room and staff remembering dining choices are often cited. Butler service is a significant perk for suite guests and Manor Club members, offering efficient assistance via WhatsApp. Service recovery is also highlighted as exceptional, with staff promptly addressing issues and offering thoughtful gestures.
6. Location & Accessibility
The hotel is ideally situated on the Kowloon waterfront in the vibrant Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) district, part of the Victoria Dockside arts and design district. It offers easy access to major attractions such as Victoria Harbour, the Avenue of Stars, the Hong Kong Museum of Art, and the K11 Musea luxury mall, to which it is directly connected. The Tsim Sha Tsui MTR (subway) station and the Star Ferry pier are both within a short walk, providing convenient transportation across the city and to Hong Kong Island. Hong Kong International Airport is approximately a 35-minute drive away.
7. Value & Pricing
Rosewood Hong Kong is considered a premium luxury property, with prices reflecting its world-class status. Room rates generally start around USD 750-850 per night, with specific examples showing a 1-night stay for two adults starting from approximately HK$6,999.97 (around USD 900) for basic rooms. Many guests suggest that upgrading to a Manor Club room or suite is "worth the splurge" due to the enhanced personalized service and comprehensive food and beverage offerings, effectively providing a "hotel within a hotel" experience. Breakfast at Holt's Café typically costs around HKD 434.5 per adult.
8. Common Complaints
While largely positive, some recurring criticisms or minor issues have been noted:
- Breakfast at Holt's Café: Despite the quality, the standard breakfast experience can feel "frenzied" and like "organized chaos" due to the hotel's popularity, especially compared to the more serene Manor Club.
- Service Personalization: For guests without Manor Club access, the personalized service may not always feel as consistent or intimate given the hotel's large size (413 rooms).
- Hotel Layout: Some first-time visitors find the hotel's layout confusing, particularly when trying to navigate from the MTR or mall entrances to the main lobby.
- Pool Crowds: The infinity pool, while beautiful, can sometimes be crowded and feel more like an "Instagrammable spot" than a quiet place to relax.
- Initial Service Hiccups: While service has significantly improved, some earlier reviews mentioned minor "hiccups" in perfunctory aspects, which have largely been resolved.

I recently stayed at the Rosewood Hong Kong, and overall, it delivered the luxury experience I was hoping for. The room was impressively spacious, especially by Hong Kong standards. The bathroom was another standout—very large, beautifully designed, and incredibly comfortable. In-room amenities were also excellent and matched the hotel’s upscale feel. The overall environment of the hotel is luxur...

We are staying here for almost 3 weeks. One of the best hotel. Amazing room and service! Concierge service is top! The hotel is strange without a lobby/ sitting area. All restaurants close by midnight, we were not able to greet friends after midnight. Also, I am surprised most food contain pork, not friendly for non-pork eaters.

Rosewood Hong Kong feels polished and calm, offering understated luxury rather than anything flashy. The location is excellent, especially for harbor views, and the overall design is elegant and well thought out. Service is professional and courteous, though at times a bit slow, particularly during busy hours. Breakfast was underwhelming for me — not bad, but not what I would expect from a hotel ...

My experience at Rosewood Hong Kong was extremely disappointing and far below the luxury standard it promotes. I left my room from 9 AM to 3 PM and returned to find it had not been serviced at all — no cleaning, no refresh, nothing. For a hotel at this level, that is unacceptable. When I raised the issue, the explanation given was that they were “understaffed.” For a property ranked among the top...

The room is luxurious. But it's not my cup of tea as it is old money style and I don't quite like the color palette. Harbor view is great. Service is good, though not exceptional (which you would expect from a hotel that's ranked #1 in the world). Location is good. It's close to the East Tsim Sha Tsui station, and very convenient to get to K11 Art Mall. But if you want to get to the restaurants ...

The rooms are decently nice but disappointing that weighing scale was not working and the coffee machine was not working well… they were thoughtful in providing extra bottles of water after realizing I drank more water. I left something behind and they surprisingly did not reach out until I reached out to them. I’ve left behind items behind at hotels and the hotel usually reaches out to me proacti...
