Expert Review: RESET Hotel Joshua Tree

RESET Hotel Joshua Tree, a Michelin Key Selected property, offers a distinctive desert retreat that harmoniously blends modern design with the rugged beauty of its surroundings. Guests consistently praise its unique atmosphere and tranquil setting, making it a highly recommended escape.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus for RESET Hotel Joshua Tree is overwhelmingly positive, with guests describing it as an "amazing desert resort" and a "unique, fun getaway." Many express a strong desire to return, highlighting a sentiment of feeling "transported to another world." Review scores on various platforms tend to be high, with many guests giving it a perfect or near-perfect rating.

2. Key Highlights

Guests are particularly enamored with several key aspects of RESET Hotel Joshua Tree:

  • Design & Vibe: The hotel's modular, minimalist, and design-forward aesthetic is frequently lauded. Its integration into the desert landscape, using earth-toned colors and natural materials, creates a sense of calm and a "futuristic motel or chic space station" feel.
  • Location & Views: Its prime location on 180 acres, just minutes from the north entrance of Joshua Tree National Park, is a major draw. Guests rave about the uninterrupted desert and mountain views, especially at sunrise and sunset.
  • Amenities for Relaxation & Stargazing: The serene saltwater pool with excellent views is a consistent highlight. Private patios with fire pits, outdoor seating, and comfortable cushions or daybeds for stargazing are cherished features, allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the desert night sky. The availability of a sauna, cold plunge, and an in-house telescope further enhances the experience.
  • Peace and Quiet: The peaceful and quiet environment is a recurring theme, providing a true "respite from daily stressors."

3. Room Quality

The 65 rooms at RESET Hotel Joshua Tree are described as comfortable, spotlessly clean, and intentionally designed to connect guests with nature.

  • Design: Rooms are minimalist, modern, and tactile, featuring earth-toned interiors. They often include large, view-framing windows.
  • Comfort: Guests frequently mention comfortable beds and premium bedding, ensuring a good night's sleep.
  • Amenities: Each room is equipped with air conditioning, heating, a mini-fridge, and coffee/tea makers with pour-over coffee from Fellow. Luxurious bath amenities from Flamingo Estate and custom Walden robes are also provided. Private outdoor patios are a standard feature, most with a Solo Stove fire pit, and some even include large outdoor soaking tubs for a unique stargazing experience.
  • Size Considerations: While generally praised for design, some queen-sized rooms have been noted as "tiny" or minimal, especially for couples with luggage.

4. Dining Experience

RESET Hotel Joshua Tree features an on-site cafe and bar, Split Rock, located by the pool.

  • On-site Offerings: Split Rock offers a full cocktail menu and a small selection of food described as "tasty but pretty bare-bones," leaning towards "elevated camping food" with simple breakfast options and sandwiches rather than luxury dining. American cuisine is served with an outdoor seating area.
  • Limitations: Guests have noted the limited food options on-site, particularly the absence of a more robust, healthy food selection like fresh juices, smoothies, and salads. There is also a planned 24-hour self-serve grab-and-go market.
  • Local Recommendations: For more substantial meals, guests are often encouraged to explore nearby dining options in Twentynine Palms, such as Kitchen in the Desert, or Joshua Tree favorites like Crossroads Cafe and La Copine.

5. Service & Staff

Guest feedback on service and staff is largely positive, with many reviewers highlighting the hospitality.

  • Attentive & Friendly: The staff is frequently described as extremely attentive, friendly, helpful, gracious, and genuinely nice, making guests feel very welcome. The bar staff, in particular, receives praise for being super nice.
  • Areas for Improvement: While generally positive, there have been isolated instances of "unacceptable service" from front desk staff. Some guests have also reported slow service. The hotel acknowledges and addresses feedback on service to ensure high standards.

6. Location & Accessibility

RESET Hotel Joshua Tree boasts an excellent location for exploring the region.

  • Proximity to Joshua Tree National Park: It is ideally situated just minutes from the north entrance of Joshua Tree National Park, making it a convenient base for hiking, stargazing, and exploring the park's natural beauty. The hotel itself sits on 180 acres, with 170 acres undeveloped, allowing for uninterrupted desert views and mini-hikes.
  • Neighborhood: Located in Twentynine Palms, the hotel offers access to the growing community of creative businesses in the town.
  • Transport: The closest major airport is Palm Springs International Airport (PSP), approximately an hour's drive away. Renting a car is highly recommended for seamless travel to and from the airport and for exploring the national park and surrounding areas. There have been some complaints about the entry road being rough due to debris.

7. Value & Pricing

While considered a luxury experience, guests often feel the RESET Hotel Joshua Tree is worth the cost.

  • Pricing: Rates generally start around $236 per night, with some reviews indicating an average price range of $151 to $200 per night.
  • Perceived Value: Many guests state it's "100% worth the price" due to the unique experience, stunning location, and thoughtful design and amenities. However, one guest felt it was "overpriced for the quality of the hotel."
  • Resort Fee: A daily resort fee of $35 plus tax per room, per night, includes Wi-Fi, pool, jacuzzi, sauna, cold plunge, sculpture art park, communal clubhouse, and on-site parking with EV charging stations.

8. Common Complaints

While largely positive, some recurring issues and criticisms have been noted:

  • Room Size: Some guests found the queen-sized rooms to be small or minimal, especially for couples.
  • Dining Options: The limited and somewhat "bare-bones" food selection at the on-site cafe has been a point of feedback, with a desire for more robust and healthy options.
  • Entry Road: There have been mentions of the entry road being rough or covered in debris.
  • Service Inconsistencies: While staff are generally praised, isolated reports of slow service or less-than-stellar interactions with specific front desk staff have surfaced.
  • In-room Coffee Essentials: A suggestion was made for the convenience of having cream and sugar with in-room coffee.
  • Signage: Early in its operation, some guests noted a lack of clear signage.

Disappointing Experience at Rest Hotel, Joshua Tree We were really looking forward to a relaxing stay at Rest Hotel in Joshua Tree, but unfortunately, our experience was not pleasant. The front desk girl’s attitude was very disappointing. The receptionist was rude, didn’t communicate properly with guests, and kept making facial expressions as she was annoyed by us. It didn’t feel welcoming at al...

Best place to stay in the area. The concept is unique and fun to experience. The views are awesome and sitting by the firepit on your private patio is definitely a great way to see the park. Staff is great and helpful. Cheryl and the chef arranged a private dinner on our patio for my wife's birthday... including champagne and cake. Just top notch. They have some growing pains operationally but...

stayed in a mountain view room in Jan 2026. Pool and hot tub are great. good bed and nice modern bathroom. room heater worked well. However there are serious design issues that take away from what could be. Bed is placed against the window so person on inside has to climb over person on outside to get off bed. No reading lights at head of bed, no side table for person on inside of bed. Bathro...

My birthday weekend at REST was truly amazing. The location, views, pool, and amenities were exceptional everything felt clean, intentional, and thoughtfully designed. From the plush towels and robes to the overall layout, it genuinely felt like a true wellness experience where every detail had been considered. What made the experience most memorable, though, was the staff. They went above and b...

Good bones, but there's lots of room for improvement. Feels like it opened maybe 6 months too early, and could benefit from someone coming in with higher-end hospitality experience. Location - Secluded location close to all the great spots in 29 Palms and Joshua Tree (Campbell Hill Bakery, Kitchen in the Desert, Más o Menos, Sun of the Desert etc). Great for stargazing, very peaceful. That is, ex...
