2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently love several aspects of Pestana Fisherman Village. The prime location in the picturesque fishing village of Câmara de Lobos is a major draw, offering a local, less touristy feel with easy access to the bay, restaurants, and bars. The friendly and attentive staff receive frequent accolades for their exceptional hospitality. Another standout feature is the fantastic and excellent breakfast, often described as the "best" guests have experienced, featuring a variety of healthy options. The rooftop swimming pool and sun terrace are also highlighted as beautiful and serene spots, offering views over the harbor.
3. Room Quality
The hotel's 42 or 47 rooms (sources vary slightly) are described as modern, comfortable, and "super cosy". They feature a contemporary classic style and are well-appointed with amenities such as air-conditioning, private bathrooms with luxury showers, free WiFi, work desks, mini-bars, and soundproofed windows for a pleasant stay. A unique design element is the large-scale graphic reproduction of a handwritten passage from Ernest Hemingway inscribed above the beds, drawing inspiration from his visit to the area. Many rooms also offer sea views.
4. Dining Experience
While the hotel's own restaurant program is primarily focused on breakfast, guests unanimously praise the included breakfast service as "excellent," "fantastic," and "delicious". It's often noted for its variety and healthy options. For lunch and dinner, guests are invited to dine at the sister property, Pestana Churchill Bay, just a two-minute walk away, which features the top-floor restaurant Pier One serving à la carte Madeiran specialties.
5. Service & Staff
The service and staff at Pestana Fisherman Village are consistently rated as a major strength. 6. Location & Accessibility
The hotel boasts a prime and central location in the heart of Câmara de Lobos, described as a charming, small, and not overly touristy fishing village with a very local feel. It is situated near the beautiful bay, surrounded by numerous cafés, bars, and excellent restaurants. The village itself is known for its picturesque views and relaxed atmosphere. Câmara de Lobos is conveniently located approximately 10-15 minutes from Funchal and about 25 km (17 miles) from Cristiano Ronaldo Madeira International Airport (FNC). While the hotel does not have its own car park, public parking is available nearby at Parque da Baía and the Town Hall building, which is often free overnight and on weekends.
7. Value & Pricing

Given the excellent location, comfortable rooms, and highly praised breakfast, many guests feel the cost is justified for the overall experience.
8. Common Complaints
While largely positive, some minor recurring issues or criticisms have been noted by guests:
- Small Pool: The rooftop pool, while lovely, is sometimes described as being quite small.
- Limited On-Site Dining/Bar: Beyond the exceptional breakfast, the hotel's own restaurant program is limited, meaning guests need to visit the sister hotel, Pestana Churchill Bay, for lunch and dinner, or explore local restaurants. Some guests noted the absence of an internal bar, though drinks can be obtained from reception, and numerous bars are available in the immediate vicinity.
- Noise from Lively Area: Due to its central location in a lively town, some guests have mentioned potential noise, particularly at night from surrounding bars and restaurants, or during special events like Christmas fireworks, which can occur early in the morning. Bringing earplugs has been suggested.
- Fountain Noise: One guest reported being kept awake by strange noises from a fountain in the patio early in the morning.

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at the The Pestana Fisherman Village Hotel. The staff were very attentive, particularly helpful was Sofie at reception who provided a warm welcome and plenty of suggestions that were useful for our stay in Madeira. The hotel is very centrally located in the village, which comes with some music playing in the street one evening that you should be aware of, b...

Lovely hotel in a cute fisherman village. The design is cozy and elegant and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The bed was comfortable and we had a nice view to the yard. The parking lot nearby cost around 2 euros per hour, and from 20:00-8:00 it is free, this is the down fall for me but it wasn’t that bad since most of the day we were out traveling. There’s a nice pool table in the hotel a...

Lovely lovely hotel in a spectacular location. Has a feel of a resort, more than a hotel. Everything was spot on what you would expect from a 4 ⭐️ hotel. Reception- we were greeted by a friendly and informative receptionist (Mariana Silva) on our arrival. MS answered all our questions gleefully and had time for us. Housekeeping - did their job fine whenever they attended the room. Left the room as...

It is a beautiful hotel, very close to the water in Camâra de Lobos. Right outside are a few different restaurants. They have a pool on the roof and it’s a nice location to read and relax. My personal highlight was breakfast: Everything comes in tiny versions, so I never had to choose, and was able to eat everything everyday and the Natas where super delicious. I highly recommend the hotel.

We stayed in this lovely hotel last weekend before a week stay in funchal. It was beautiful and perfect in every way. We wouldn't have changed a thing, except maybe to stay longer next time. Breakfast was delicious and varied. Rooms were clean and modern. Beds were super comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel itself is so quaint and beautiful but modern at the same time. Perfect!

I am impressed with this hotel in Madeira! I'm so glad I booked this while traveling through the island. Parking is super easy and you can charge it through the hotel. Just remember your car tag and let the front staff know. Claudia was an outstanding staff member. She was so gracious and professional. Cleaning was on time, every day.
