1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The general consensus for Leven Manchester is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently describing their stays as "exceptional" and "comfortable and relaxing." The hotel achieves high scores across the board, including 9.4 for value and 9.7 for cleanliness, indicating a consistently outstanding guest experience. Many express a strong desire to return, highlighting its quality and appeal.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently rave about several aspects of Leven Manchester:
- Design: The hotel masterfully blends its original Victorian architecture with a modern, industrial-chic aesthetic. Exposed red brick walls, large Crittall windows, vaulted ceilings, and cast-iron columns are complemented by rich-hued furnishings, creating a cozy yet opulent atmosphere. The lobby bar, with its brass-topped bar and emerald-green scalloped tiles, is a particular favorite.
- Location: Situated in the vibrant Gay Village district, just off Canal Street, the hotel offers an ideal base for exploring Manchester's nightlife and attractions. Its proximity to transport hubs like Manchester Oxford Road and Deansgate Train Stations is also a significant plus.
- Service: The staff are frequently described as "super-friendly, immensely helpful," and "attentive." Guests appreciate their knowledge of the local area and their accommodating nature, including flexibility with check-in and check-out when possible.
- Amenities: Thoughtful touches like complimentary limited-edition Leven socks and a well-stocked mini-bar enhance the guest experience. Many rooms also feature full-size kitchens, offering added convenience for longer stays or families.
3. Room Quality
Leven Manchester's rooms are consistently praised for their spaciousness, comfort, and stylish design. They are described as "beautifully presented," "large, clean and tidy," and designed with "elegant, minimalist Scandi-style." Guests particularly appreciate the comfortable beds, often likening them to those found in luxurious settings. The rooms vary in size and layout, from "Life Size" rooms to one-bedroom "Living Space" suites with separate sitting areas, catering to different needs and budgets. Some rooms, like the "Living Large" penthouse, even feature wraparound balconies with views of Canal Street. Excellent soundproofing is noted, especially given the central, lively location, with earplugs thoughtfully provided for extra peace of mind.
4. Dining Experience
While not having a traditional in-house restaurant initially, Leven Manchester has evolved its dining offerings. The lobby bar is open round the clock, serving coffee, delicious cocktails, and sweet treats sourced from local bakeries.
For breakfast, guests can enjoy a continental spread in the charming lobby nook, featuring pastries, cereals, fresh fruit, yogurt, coffee, and smoothies. A partner restaurant, Maya, located next door to the main hotel building, offers a more extensive breakfast menu for Leven guests at a discounted rate (£14 as of a 2025 review), including a continental buffet, juices, hot drinks, and one cooked-to-order hot dish such as a full English, eggs Benedict, or avocado toast.
Maya also serves as a sophisticated option for lunch and dinner, described as an elegant space with a curved bar and live DJ, offering elevated, brasserie-style classics like delicate ravioli, decadent fillet of beef, and inventive fish mains. Maya also hosts a popular bottomless brunch.
5. Service & Staff
The staff at Leven Manchester consistently receive high marks for their hospitality. They are described as "friendly and efficient," "attentive and helpful," and "welcoming." Guests appreciate their professionalism and the personalized service, with some noting their knowledge of the local area. The hotel is also flexible with timings, offering early check-in and late check-out when possible, a detail guests find very accommodating.
6. Location & Accessibility
Leven Manchester is strategically located in the heart of Manchester's vibrant Gay Village, placing guests within easy reach of nightlife, dining, and shopping. It's just a short distance from major transport links like Manchester Oxford Road and Deansgate Train Stations, offering excellent connectivity across the city and beyond. The hotel's canal-side location is also ideal for dog owners, as it is a dog-friendly establishment. Nearby attractions and amenities include various shopping landmarks, diverse dining options, and public parks.
7. Value & Pricing

Room prices can start from around £89 a night, with average room rates in the past month being around £120.56 GBP, compared to the city's average of £90.59 GBP. Weekend rates tend to be higher, averaging around £203, while weeknights average £119. January is noted as the cheapest month to stay, with July being the most expensive.

Everything about our two night stay at the Leven over the Halloween weekend was perfect. We arrived by coach from Victoria, caught the City free bus to Chorlton Coach station and walked 1 minute to Canal Street in the heart of the Gay Village. What a wonderful atmosphere; friendly, pretty and lively. The 43 room/suite hotel converted from an old cotton mill retains the original brick walls and has...

The staff are pleasant but this hotel is very uncomfortable. Multi level rooms but no doors make it loud and difficult, for example: the bathroom door opens right onto the stairs and the stairs creak like they're medieval - so if anyone uses the bathroom at night, they're going to wake up everyone. Plus on weekends, there's outside noise and cars honking until 3am. I would recommend somewhere else...
