Expert Review: L'Escape Hotel
L'Escape Hotel, a Michelin Key Selected property in Seoul, Korea, offers a distinct and luxurious "Parisian escape" experience. Guests consistently praise its unique design, prime location, and exceptional service.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The general consensus for L'Escape Hotel is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently describing their stays as "wonderful" and "exceptional." It garners high ratings for its location (9.7), cleanliness (9.6), comfort (9.6), and staff (9.4).
2. Key Highlights
Guests are particularly enchanted by the hotel's captivating design, which transports them to 19th-century Parisian Belle Époque with its vintage, lavish interiors and stunning floral displays. The service is consistently highlighted as friendly, attentive, and top-notch, with a helpful concierge service. Its central location in Myeongdong is also a major draw, providing easy access to key attractions and transport. Modern amenities such as a voice-controlled assistant "Genie," a well-equipped gym, a serene spa, a library, and pet-friendly rooms further enhance the guest experience.
3. Room Quality
L'Escape's rooms are described as superb, spacious, and extremely comfortable, featuring richly decorated interiors with canopy beds, heavy curtains, and elaborate wallpaper. The elegant bathrooms boast white-and-black checkered tiles, porcelain bathtubs, and separate shower stalls, complete with Atelier Cologne toiletries. Modern conveniences include hidden sockets and a voice-controlled assistant "Genie" for lights, music, and other services. Deluxe rooms range from 27.2 to 41 square meters, while suites are more expansive, from 53 to 157 square meters.
4. Dining Experience
The hotel offers a notable culinary journey with two distinct restaurants. L'Amant Secret, a Michelin-starred French fine dining establishment located on the 26th floor, provides exquisite gastronomy with spectacular city views. Palais de Chine, also featured in the Michelin Guide, offers an inspired take on 1930s Shanghai Chinese cuisine in a glamorous setting. Breakfast, available as both buffet and à la carte, is praised for items like excellent croissants and coffee, a result of a partnership with Hell Cafe. For evening enjoyment, the Marque d'Amour high-rise bar is renowned for its creative cocktails.
5. Service & Staff
The service and staff at L'Escape Hotel receive consistent acclaim for being friendly, attentive, and highly helpful. Guests often commend the top-notch hospitality and the efficiency of the concierge service.
6. Location & Accessibility
L'Escape Hotel boasts an excellent central location in Myeongdong, making it a highly accessible choice for travelers. It is conveniently situated near the subway, the Shinsegae department store, Namdaemun Market, and the bustling Myeongdong shopping street, allowing for a very walkable experience.
7. Value & Pricing
While the hotel is generally well-regarded, some guests have raised concerns regarding its "value for money." The average price for a weeknight stay is approximately $235 USD, increasing to about $262 USD for a weekend night. Prices can fluctuate significantly, with February being the cheapest month (averaging a 31% price drop) and December being the most expensive (averaging a 62% price rise). The lowest room prices can be around $187.10 USD.
8. Common Complaints
Recurring criticisms occasionally mention issues with room lighting. A more specific review highlighted concerns such as poor shower pressure, difficult temperature controls, an ineffective toilet flushing system, and a non-functional air conditioning unit. This same review also found the service to be "less polished" compared to other Luxury Collection hotels and some aspects of the "faux-Parisian" decor to be "atrocious," noting that some rooms felt "compact". However, these appear to be less frequent complaints compared to the overall positive feedback.

This hotel is deemed luxury and while it is certainly well designed the cleanliness left a lot to be desired. For instance the black marble is showing its age. I think due to lack of cleaning. There was a bandage (from previous tenant) stuck to the shower wall for two days before I cleaned it myself. I didn’t want my bare feet touching the floors it was that bad. I also had really low water pressu...

I stayed at L’escape Hotel for 10 days and overall had a positive experience, with a mix of thoughtful service touches and a few frustrations. For most of the stay, the towels were beautiful and felt luxurious, although oddly the towels on the first night were very poor quality and not something I would even use on my feet. The room itself was kept very clean, and the shower space and water press...

Super pet-friendly and amazing service. Ive stayed 200+ nights in various hotels over the past 1 year and this was definitely the cleanest hotel I’ve ever stayed in (much cleaner than many RCs, Waldorfs and Edition hotels in the US). Definitely will be coming back to stay here next time in Korea

This was our second time staying at this hotel. Honestly the bed and pillows deserve 5 stars. I wish they would sell those pillows to guests. Breakfast is really good with many options and great service. The happy hour is also worth it if you plan to stay at hotel from 5/6pm to 8pm. This time we didn’t do it since we were out and about most of the time. This time we got a smaller room (still big w...

There are some real pros and cons for this hotel which is why we landed on three stars, but for us personally, this hotel does not warrant 5*. Starting with the pros: Good location to get around Seoul, stones throw from the station. Surrounding area wasn't our cup of tea, but no complaints. The interior was lovely, but I can see how it wouldn't be for everyone! Brilliant night sleep, very comf...

Amazing locating in the heart of Seoul directly at the metro station. The hotel smells very good directly when you enter, it's really a pleasure to walk through. There are great facilities in the hotel itself: 2 restaurants, a tea room and a bar. Room was spacious, stylish but a bit dark to our taste. It's a good value for money.
