Expert Review: Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas

The Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas stands out as a highly-regarded luxury hotel, frequently praised for its exceptional service, prime location, and elegant design. As a Michelin Key Selected property, it consistently delivers a sophisticated experience for both leisure and business travelers.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus for the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests describing their stays as "exceptional" and "amazing." Reviewers often express a strong recommendation for the hotel, noting it as a "great choice" for various travelers and even one of the highest-ranking properties some have ever stayed at. An overall experience rating of 96 out of 100 has been noted.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently highlight several outstanding aspects of the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas:

  • Service & Staff: The staff is frequently lauded as "attentive and well trained," "very helpful and welcoming," and offering "excellent service." The guest relations team, particularly in the Club Lounge, is noted for going "above and beyond."
  • Location: The hotel boasts an "extremely perfect" and "fantastic" location in the heart of the bustling Gangnam district. Its direct connection to the COEX Mall, COEX convention center, and Samseong Subway Station is a significant advantage.
  • Design: Following recent renovations, the hotel features a "modern and sophisticated aesthetic" with "thoughtfully curated decor" creating an ambiance of "refined elegance." The lobby bar and lounge are often described as "breathtaking."
  • Amenities: Key amenities include a well-equipped fitness center, a relaxing indoor pool, a sauna, and a highly praised Club Lounge with excellent food and beverage offerings.

3. Room Quality

The rooms at Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas are generally considered "spacious" and "large," offering a comfortable stay. They are described as "very clean" and "nicely fit out," featuring "comfortable beds and pillows" and "luxurious bedding." Guests appreciate the inclusion of plush bathrobes, rainfall showers, and a pillow menu for optimal rest. The design seamlessly blends "traditional Korean aesthetics" with contemporary elements, maintaining a sophisticated and modern feel. All guestrooms are fitted with panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows and new facilities include a minimum 55-inch LED UHD Smart TV. Suites further enhance the experience with clothing sterilizers. Noise cancellation in the rooms is described as "phenomenal," ensuring a quiet environment despite the city center location. However, one guest found a base king room "fairly small" when a baby crib was added.

4. Dining Experience

The hotel offers a diverse and high-quality dining experience. The breakfast buffet at Grand Kitchen is frequently cited as "excellent," featuring a wide array of Korean, Japanese, Chinese, and Western dishes. While some European offerings might be less fresh and a few less popular dishes occasionally dry, the overall selection is impressive. It can, however, become "a bit repetitive after the first day." The hotel also hosts various restaurants serving French, Italian, Asian, Japanese, and Chinese cuisines with "top of the line chefs."

A particular highlight is the Club Lounge, where breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening cocktail hour food offerings receive immense praise for their quality and variety, catering to international palates. The evening spread in the lounge is so comprehensive that some guests found little need to dine elsewhere.

5. Service & Staff

Service at the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas is consistently rated as a strong point. Guests commend the staff for being "attentive, friendly and very helpful," providing an "excellent" and "warm welcome." Numerous accounts highlight their responsiveness and willingness to go "above and beyond." Examples include staff providing birthday cakes to guests, offering complimentary room upgrades, and even assisting late at night with finding an optician to fix broken glasses. Staff in the Club Lounge are particularly noted for their attentiveness.

6. Location & Accessibility

The Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas boasts an exceptionally convenient location in the "bustling Gangnam district" and the "heart of Samsung-dong." It's directly connected to the COEX Mall, which includes a convention center, an aquarium, the Starfield Library, duty-free shops, a cinema, and hundreds of other shops and restaurants, providing abundant entertainment and dining options. The hotel is also a 5-minute walk from Samseong Subway Station (Line 2) and accessible via an underground passageway from Exit No. 5. Airport limousine buses offer comfortable and direct transportation to and from Incheon International Airport, stopping right in front of the hotel. While public transport connections are excellent, some guests noted difficulties getting taxis during rush hour and navigating the subway with a baby stroller due to crowds.

7. Value & Pricing

Many guests consider their stay at the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas to be of "great value" and "worth it," especially when benefits like breakfast or Club Lounge access are included. While it comes with a higher price tag as a luxury property, the overall experience often justifies the cost. Typical prices for a night can start around $212.19 for two adults, with average weeknight prices around $333 and weekend nights around $379. Prices tend to be lowest in April (around a 45% drop) and highest in September (around a 69% rise).

8. Common Complaints

While overwhelmingly positive, some recurring issues or criticisms have been noted by guests:

  • Check-out Flexibility: A few guests reported a lack of flexibility regarding late check-out requests, even for short extensions.
  • Room Size (Base Rooms): One specific complaint mentioned a base king room feeling "fairly small" and cramped when a baby crib was present.
  • Breakfast Repetitiveness: Despite the high quality, some found the extensive breakfast buffet to be "a bit repetitive after the first day" for longer stays.
  • Conservative Design: One reviewer suggested that the hotel's design, while elegant, leans "towards a more conservative approach" which could potentially lead to it feeling outdated prematurely.
  • Taxi and Subway Accessibility Challenges: For those traveling with young children or during peak hours, securing a taxi can be difficult, and navigating crowded subways with a stroller was described as challenging.
  • Sewage Smell: A significant and concerning complaint from one long-term loyal guest was an "intermittent but extremely strong sewage smell" in their room, leading to adverse health effects and a decision not to return.

Overall a fascinating hotel. I stayed in one of the junior suites for eight nights and had a very pleasant time with its renovated hardware and wonderful service. Food was also great at the grand kitchen as well as the club lounge. The only con is elevators can take time and get quite crowded. Would totally come back here for my next stay in Seoul.

Booked a room for family for vacation in Seoul. The entire hotel was decorated in lovely, and festive Christmas decorations. The moment you enter the hotel there's a pleasant perfume smell, which may either be good for others but not necessarily good for more sensitive guests. Our room was a suite which by standards could not be upgraded to a better room with our membership, so the view from our r...
