Expert Review: Le Cerf Amoureux
Le Cerf Amoureux, a Michelin Key Selected property in Sallanches, France, offers a unique and luxurious Alpine retreat described as a "true labor of love" by its Parisian hotelier owner. This exceptional chalet aims to provide the warm welcome and comfort typically found in a family-operated establishment.
Overall Rating & Sentiment
The overall sentiment for Le Cerf Amoureux is largely positive, with guests frequently referring to it as a "wonderful retreat". While cleanliness, facilities, and comfort generally receive high marks (often rated 10 out of 10 in some aggregations), there are mixed reviews regarding staff performance and value for money, with some ratings as low as 5.0 for staff and 7.5 for value.
Key Highlights
Guests particularly praise the magnificent views of Mont Blanc and the Aravis mountain range that surround the property. The chalet boasts a comprehensive range of amenities, including a spa with a jacuzzi and relaxation beds, an outdoor heated swimming pool (seasonal, open from June to September), and a private cinema room. The large, welcoming lounge with a fireplace serves as a cozy centerpiece, embodying the soothing rhythm of mountain life. The "fine food and creative beverage angles" are also noted as competently covered.
Room Quality
Le Cerf Amoureux features 11 "cozy and beautifully decorated" rooms, each with its own bathroom. The rooms are described as a "stylish, comfortable, contemporary take on classic Alpine digs, with a minimalist bent" that brings them squarely into the 21st century. Designed with particular attention to guest comfort, they offer a warm and relaxing atmosphere. Guests can expect flat-screen TVs, in-room WiFi, and in certain units, a seating area, terrace, or balcony. The property also offers flexible accommodation options, including family rooms or apartments, suitable for larger parties.
Dining Experience
The dining experience at Le Cerf Amoureux is designed to be convivial, featuring a dining room with a large table d'hôtes for 14 people, alongside modular tables for varied group sizes. The Michelin Guide highlights the "fine food and creative beverage angles" as well-executed. For an even more personalized culinary experience, a private chef service is available seven days a week, adapting to guests' preferences.
Service & Staff
While the Michelin Guide notes the staff as "helpful and warm", some aggregated guest reviews present a lower rating for staff service, scoring it at 5.0 out of 10. This suggests a potential inconsistency in guest experiences regarding hospitality.
Location & Accessibility
Nestled in Sallanches, Le Cerf Amoureux offers an exceptional location with breathtaking views of Mont Blanc. It is conveniently situated "five minutes from a cable car connecting you to hundreds of miles of first-rate skiing" and is considered ideal for winter sports enthusiasts, being approximately 7.5 miles (12 km) from the Le Valleen Gondola. The Sallanches - Combloux - Megève Train Station is nearby, providing convenient public transport connections to surrounding areas like Combloux and Megève. For those arriving by air, Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport is roughly a 2-hour drive or a 3-hour journey using a combination of trains and buses.
Value & Pricing
The property, often functioning as a private chalet with 11 rooms capable of accommodating up to 30 people, can command a premium price. For instance, rates have been observed starting from around $3986, which likely reflects the rental of the entire chalet rather than individual rooms. Some aggregated reviews indicate a "Value for money" rating of 7.5 out of 10, suggesting that while guests appreciate the quality, some may find it on the pricier side. The Michelin Guide assures guests of "Best prices are guaranteed" when booking directly.
Common Complaints
The most notable recurring issue appears to be the perceived quality of staff service, as indicated by a 5.0 rating in some guest aggregations. Additionally, while its offerings are highly regarded, the "Value for money" rating of 7.5 suggests that some guests might consider the pricing to be high, especially if they are not renting the entire expansive chalet.

Amazing. Everything top-notch. Mrs. Iris Besson is the most professional hotel staff member I have ever encountered. The rooms amazing. The area amazing. The dinner amazing, especially the Charolais T-bone steak, with fries and green beans. It was so worth it. Drank Pic-Saint-Loup Classique Bergerie 2016 (vivino: 3.8) red with it, paired perfectly.

The hotel address is stated as Sallanches. We chose it because it looked like a nice hotel and we preferred to stay there as it was on our way. However - we found ourselves far away in the mountains in one of the villages further ahead from other .villages we decided NOT to go as they were off road. The place itself is OK though overrate and too expensive to what it offers. And there is nothing mu...

We organized a four-day seminar with Salomon at Le Cerf Amoureux. Our experience was absolutely perfect from start to finish. The adaptable seminar room, the large lounge for small group workshops, the charming rooms with breathtaking views, not to mention the pool and spa/hammam made our stay a perfect experience. The chalet's private chef was excellent. We enjoyed varied, generous, and exquisite...

Superb hotel! The rooms are superb, and this brand-new hotel is ideally located with a magnificent view of the Mont Blanc range. The staff is very welcoming, and the hotel offers plenty to do: restaurant, hammam, sauna, jacuzzi, cinema room, games room, and more. The place is also very well decorated! I recommend this place!
