1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus for Hostellerie du Chapeau Rouge is largely positive, with guests frequently describing it as an "amazing small boutique hotel" and a "fantastic hotel". The property consistently receives high marks for its staff, cleanliness, and exceptional location. While many find it a worthwhile experience, some guests consider it overpriced for the room size and breakfast cost. Overall, it maintains a "fabulous" rating with a staff score of 9.6 out of 10 and comfort at 9.4, based on over 1000 guest experiences.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently praise several aspects of the Hostellerie du Chapeau Rouge:

  • Service: "Five-star reception" and "exceptionally friendly and supportive staff" are frequently mentioned.
  • Location: Its central position in Dijon's historic heart is a major draw, offering easy walking access to major attractions like Saint-Bénigne Cathedral, Place Darcy, and the Palace of the Dukes.
  • Dining: The two-Michelin-starred William Frachot restaurant is a significant highlight, offering refined cuisine that celebrates local Burgundy products.
  • Design & Amenities: The hotel blends old-world charm from its 1863 coaching inn origins with modern design. A serene spa area in a vaulted stone cellar, featuring a hammam, sauna, and massage showers, is also a much-appreciated amenity.

3. Room Quality

The hotel features 28 tastefully decorated rooms and suites that combine noble materials with contemporary design. Rooms are described as "cozy," "modern," "comfortable," and "very clean". While some guests find the rooms "modestly sized", others have enjoyed "spacious" and "large stylish rooms". They are equipped with private bathrooms, a minibar, satellite television, and some categories include a Nespresso machine. Reviews highlight cheerful interiors with ample light, bold-colored furniture, and contemporary art. However, one guest noted potential issues with soundproofing in their room.

4. Dining Experience

The William Frachot restaurant, holding two Michelin stars, is a standout feature of the hotel. It is open from Wednesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner, offering refined and inventive cuisine deeply rooted in Burgundy's terroir and ingredients. Guests can expect "extraordinary amuse-bouche" and an excellent wine list curated by sommelier Maxime Brunet.

Breakfast is a "gourmet" experience, carefully imagined and selected by Chef William Frachot. It is served as a buffet in a newly designed breakfast room, focusing on fresh and local products, with an open kitchen creating a warm atmosphere. Many guests praise the breakfast as "exceptional," "excellent," and "very good". However, some guests consider it expensive, with an approximate cost of EUR 28 for adults.

We loved our one-night stay. This is an amazing small boutique hotel with five-star reception, especially Marguerite! The room was cozy, the historical building was beautiful, and the location was exceptional. Unfortunately, we didn't get to try dinner in the Michelin-starred restaurant. Next time for sure! Great value for the money!

Great location, comfortable and clean room. Breakfast very nice. Service is polite, but needs improvement in proactivity and follow up communication.

Great and convenient location with friendly staff. The room was quite nice, and the bed was very comfortable but there were a few quirks.

Overpriced. Staff are friendly, car parking service is good, but it’s too expensive for the quality of the room. And 35 euros per person for breakfast is bonkers. The local Boulangerie was a better choice.

The rooms were nice but nothing special, the breakfast wasn't really our cup of tea..

We had high expectation of a hotel colocated with the best restaurant in town, 2-star Michelin. Big disappointment! The front desk staff was beyond rude. Frommer's guide subtly mentioned that "staff can be gruff"; it's worse. Paid over US$200 (breakfast and parking extra) per night for a minuscule room and a clogged bathtub. The separate toilet room, a gem! When sitting down your knees could easi...
