Expert Review: La Reine Jane
La Reine Jane in Hyères, France, a property recognized by the Michelin Key selection, offers a distinctive and memorable stay, celebrated for its unique design and prime beachfront location.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
La Reine Jane generally receives very positive feedback from guests. Agoda rates the hotel at an overall 8.3 out of 10, while the Michelin Guide's guest score is an impressive 17.2 out of 20. The prevailing sentiment is that of a charming, stylish, and comfortable boutique hotel that offers excellent value for money.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently praise La Reine Jane for several standout features. Its artistic and original design, where each of the 14 rooms is uniquely styled by a different European designer, is a major draw. The hotel's beautiful location, just 30 meters from the beach and facing Ayguade harbor, is another significant highlight, often accompanied by stunning sea or mountain views. The comfortable and well-decorated restaurant and bar areas, along with the wonderful rooftop bar offering 360° views, are also frequently mentioned as beloved amenities. Friendly and attentive staff further contribute to a positive guest experience.
3. Room Quality
The hotel's 14 air-conditioned rooms, entirely renovated in 2017, are individually styled by different designers, each drawing inspiration from the Mediterranean. Guests describe them as lovely, stylish, and artistic, with some rooms offering a terrace overlooking the sea. Rooms are equipped with premium bedding, flat-screen TVs, and often a small Nespresso maker. While the design is a strong point, some guests have noted that the rooms can be small. Additionally, bathrooms are mostly open-plan within the bedroom, and some rooms might lack a traditional wardrobe, offering hanging space over the kettle area instead.
4. Dining Experience
La Reine Jane features a restaurant serving French cuisine, often with a focus on fresh, local, and sea-oriented dishes. It is open for lunch and dinner from Monday to Saturday, and on Sundays, a buffet brunch is available from 11:30 to 15:00. While Agoda gave the food and dining options a rating of 6.0, other guest reviews highly praise the restaurant as "delicious" and "magnificent". A buffet breakfast is served daily, though it comes at an additional cost of approximately 18 EUR per adult and 9 EUR per child. The hotel also boasts a bar and a rooftop bar, perfect for relaxing.
5. Service & Staff
The service and staff at La Reine Jane receive high marks, with a rating of 7.0 for staff performance on Agoda and 9.4 on Hotels.com. Guests consistently describe the staff as "friendly," "attentive," "welcoming," and "delightful". They are noted for going above and beyond to ensure a memorable and enjoyable experience, offering warm hospitality and personalized service.
6. Location & Accessibility
The hotel boasts an excellent location, situated just 30 meters (98 feet) from the beach and directly facing Ayguade harbor. This allows for easy access to the beach and local attractions. Guests appreciate the short walk to the beach and the ability to explore the charming city of Hyères and its surrounding areas. Free public parking is available, and the hotel is conveniently located about 2 km (1.2 miles) from Hyères-Toulon Airport. The reception can also assist with renting boats, bikes, scooters, and jet skis.
7. Value & Pricing
La Reine Jane is considered to offer "outstanding value" and "affordable luxury". The average room price is approximately $206, with some deals starting around $149-$215 nightly. This pricing is noted as being competitive, especially compared to the average hotel room price in Hyères, which is around $183. Guests feel they receive excellent services and amenities for the cost.
8. Common Complaints
While generally positive, some recurring comments include the observation that rooms can be "small". A few guests have also mentioned the lack of a traditional wardrobe, with only hanging space available in some rooms. The Agoda rating for food and dining, at 6.0, suggests that this aspect, while receiving praise from some, might not consistently meet the high standards of other hotel features for all guests.

The Sunday Brunch was wonderful! A full buffet experience served with a hot beverage including sea food, oysters, prawns, a variety of salads, cheese and charcuterie, bread, eggs, bacon and more… the highlight for us was the sweet section including tiramisu, crème brûlée, Cakes, pancakes, fruit, pastries, and etc. Staff were super nice and the ambiance deco is super cool too.

The setting is good and the roof bar a nice place to hang out for a drink or two in the evening. The restaurant was not so good. Started with one waiter who couldn’t smile and ended with a complaint to the manager. Too often restaurants get away with very average or below average food. Either I’m just fussy or people just can’t be bothered to give constructive feedback and for the restaurant to m...

We had brunch on Sundays since a few years here, but the level went so much down … less choice, to much people accepted so trays always empty, coffee served on a glass without spoon ( they ran out of spoons and cups), waiting 30min for a cold coffee,…such a pity

Coming to Hyeres for 25 years, the whole experience has been greatly enhanced since La Reine Jeanne came on the scene (and her sisters Le Marias and now Hotel Lilou too!). Myself and my kids love the Sunday brunch of fresh, local and authentic French dishes, in abundance. I LOVE yoga on the rooftop on Sunday morning and drinks there in the evening for sunset! This is one of the coolest spots in Hy...

The worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Tiny room tired and stained including the sheets. Toilet inside the shower (see photo) and open to the room next to your pillow. Even worse the hotel was privatized on our second night. We were not permitted to use any of the common spaces including the roof and the restaurant was closed to us. The music was unimaginably loud the roof was directly above our h...
