La Maison de Rhodes, a Michelin Key Selected property in Troyes, France, offers a unique blend of historic charm and modern comfort, making it a highly regarded destination for travelers seeking an authentic and luxurious experience.

Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general sentiment for La Maison de Rhodes is overwhelmingly positive, with guests appreciating its beautiful location, cleanliness, and attentive service. Many highlight the undeniable charm of the building and the quality of the food. While some reviews mention concerns regarding room size and value for money, the consensus points to a delightful and memorable stay for most visitors.

Key Highlights

Guests consistently praise several aspects of La Maison de Rhodes:

  • Historic Ambiance & Design: The hotel is set in a spectacularly restored medieval building, with foundations dating back to the 12th century, having once belonged to the Knights Templar and later the Knights of Malta. Its interior features meticulously restored spaces with exposed beams, original stone walls, and half-timbering, blending ageless elegance with modern conveniences.
  • Amenities: The property boasts a heated outdoor swimming pool, open seasonally, located in a charming medieval garden. A wellness area with a sauna, Jacuzzi, and hydromassage showers is also available, with options for private reservation and massages. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout.
  • Service & Hospitality: Attentive and friendly service is frequently cited as a major highlight.

Room Quality

The 11 accommodations at La Maison de Rhodes are described as charming, comfortable, and beautifully decorated, each individually furnished and steeped in history. Rooms feature original timber beams, stone floors, and unique vintage details, combining old-world character with modern amenities like flat-screen TVs and iPod docking stations. Select Comfort beds with premium bedding ensure a restful stay. Bathrooms are generously sized, often including deep soaking bathtubs and bathrobes. However, some guests have noted that certain bathrooms only offer a bath with a hand shower rather than a separate shower cubicle, and some found room sizes a concern. The absence of a coffee machine in some bedrooms has also been mentioned.

Dining Experience

The hotel's restaurant, La Commanderie, offers gourmet dining with a focus on local dishes made from quality, often organic, produce and paired with regional wines. Dining is available in an elegant dining room with a fireplace in winter or in the picturesque medieval courtyard during warmer months, which also serves as a summer breakfast spot. A continental breakfast is available for approximately €32 per adult. While many appreciate the quality of the food, some guests have found the dinner to be disappointing and overpriced, and the breakfast not entirely worth its cost. The hotel also offers a bar and a gourmet tea time experience.

Service & Staff

The staff at La Maison de Rhodes consistently receives high praise for being superb, unbelievably helpful, kind, and extremely friendly. Guests have highlighted their professionalism and willingness to assist with services such as parking and luggage.

Location & Accessibility

La Maison de Rhodes boasts an excellent location in the heart of Troyes' medieval city, situated directly at the foot of the cathedral. This central position allows for easy walking access to numerous attractions, including bustling shops, restaurants, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Musée des Beaux-Arts et d'Archéologie. For travelers arriving from further afield, the hotel is approximately a 90-minute drive from Charles de Gaulle (CDG) Airport in Paris, and a short 15-minute walk from the Troyes railway station. The hotel offers private on-site parking for a fee, including charging stations for Tesla and Porsche electric vehicles, and also notes free public parking is available nearby.

Value & Pricing

La Maison de Rhodes is positioned as a luxury accommodation, with average room rates around $379 per night, significantly higher than the city's average of $138. Nightly prices can fluctuate, ranging from approximately $280 to $564 depending on the season and room type. While some guests consider it a "treat for a special occasion" and "good value" given the experience, others have expressed concerns about the overall value for money, especially in relation to room size and dining costs. A city tax of EUR 2.75 per person per night is also applied.

The staff were really friendly and welcoming. The room was cozy. What highlighted the experience was that I booked a taxi for 7.50 for my way back to catch the train for 8.20 . But the taxi service got delayed and let me down. I let the staff know and they quickly called their manager who wasnt on shift to drop me. The manager agreed to pick me up and quickly turned up to pick me up and drop me of...

Beautiful hotel in historic town, we stayed twice in one week. Beds super comfy. Easy parking outside ( quite fortunate) and gentle stroll into centre. Plenty of restaurants to sample. One request, coffee machine in rooms would be a nice touch!

Excellent hotel in an an old Commanderie of the Knights Malta. Well worth staying for the architecture alone. The food was excellent and tables are personally served by the chef. How he cooks such excellent food an such a small kitchen is anyone's guess. A short walk to town over the canal and into the main square.
