Expert Review: La Fantaisie

La Fantaisie, Paris: A Whimsical Oasis in the Heart of the 9th Arrondissement

La Fantaisie, a Michelin One-Key property in Paris, has quickly established itself as a vibrant and enchanting luxury boutique hotel, offering a unique blend of whimsical design, exceptional service, and a serene atmosphere amidst the Parisian bustle. Guests consistently praise its distinctive character and the unforgettable experience it provides.

Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus for La Fantaisie is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently describing their stays as "excellent," "unforgettable," and "perfect." The hotel boasts high ratings, with scores like 9.2 for overall experience and 9.4 for staff and facilities on various platforms. Reviewers often highlight its dreamlike, floral, and playful ambiance, a refreshing departure from traditional Parisian luxury.

Key Highlights

Guests are particularly enamored with La Fantaisie's stunning design by Martin Brudnizki, which infuses botanical themes and vibrant colors throughout the property. The hotel's lush courtyard garden and the sensational rooftop terrace and bar, offering dazzling views of Paris and even the Eiffel Tower, are consistent favorites. The extensive spa facilities, including a thermal pool, hot tub, and sauna, are also frequently lauded as an exceptional urban sanctuary.

Room Quality

The 73 rooms and 10 suites at La Fantaisie are described as luxurious, elegant, serene, and exquisitely designed. Martin Brudnizki's "playful maximalism" is evident in the rooms, featuring botanical prints, vibrant color palettes (such as sunflower yellows and sage greens), textured wall coverings, and mid-century modern furnishings. Guests appreciate the comfort and thoughtful amenities, including air conditioning, private bathrooms with bathrobes, minibars, and tea/coffee makers. While many rooms offer Juliet balconies, some suites boast private terraces, providing rare outdoor space in Paris. It's important to note that standard rooms primarily feature showers, with baths typically available only in the more lavish suites.

Dining Experience

La Fantaisie offers a notable dining experience at its restaurant, Golden Poppy. Initially conceived with a pescatarian focus by Chef Dominique Crenn, the restaurant has evolved to offer elevated Parisian brasserie fare with a focus on seasonal and local ingredients. Breakfast is served daily and includes a variety of local specialties, warm dishes, and fresh pastries. The rooftop bar, Bar Sur La Toit, is a popular spot for cocktails and boasts panoramic views of the city.

Service & Staff

The service at La Fantaisie consistently receives high praise. Guests report that the staff is exceptionally friendly, attentive, professional, and eager to assist with any request. Many reviewers specifically commend the welcoming atmosphere and the personalized touches that make guests feel at home.

Location & Accessibility

Located in the 9th arrondissement, specifically on the charming and pedestrianized Rue Cadet in the Faubourg-Montmartre neighborhood, La Fantaisie offers a central yet surprisingly quiet retreat. The area is known for its village-like feel and is conveniently close to major attractions such as Galeries Lafayette, Sacré-Cœur Basilica, and the Moulin Rouge. It also provides easy access to public transport and is a quick taxi ride from Gare du Nord for those arriving via Eurostar.

Value & Pricing

La Fantaisie is a five-star luxury property, and its pricing reflects this. Nightly rates typically start around €550, though entry-level rooms can sometimes be found for under €400. While many guests feel the unique design, luxurious amenities, and exceptional service justify the cost, some reviews occasionally raise concerns about the overall value, particularly regarding the price of breakfast.

Common Complaints

While overwhelmingly positive, some recurring criticisms include the absence of bathtubs in standard rooms, which are primarily equipped with showers. A few guests have also mentioned that the breakfast, while offering variety, might be considered expensive or not entirely align with the perceived value for money. One guest noted an inability to access the rooftop bar past 10 PM.

This is a five-star boutique hotel that opened in 2023. The garden and the rooftop bar, the restaurant and the design that distinguishes the hotel from other hotels of this level are interesting. A spa with thermal micro pools, a hammam, a conventional sauna and an infrared cabin is a very pleasant and comfortable place. The overall festive palette consists of green, yellow and coral tones, with f...

I had a wonderful time at La Fantaisie! The location was perfect. The staff was so wonderful and extremely helpful. Emma was a rockstar and helped me with all of my questions and concerns AND was able to deliver. I was able to get into museums and exhibits with her help. Miguel was also very friendly and helpful. Honestly, the rest of the staff was wonderful as well. Which is what I look for in a ...

The location is convenient and the room decoration is quite nice, but the back-of-house staff are incredibly rude. One of them opened my door without permission and hurled a pair of slippers into my room. After I reported the incident, the reception staff did absolutely nothing about it. Honestly, the quality of the food and drink in the hotel—breakfast included—is poor. I wouldn't recommend stayi...

This was the most amazing stay ever! They were very helpful, kind and accommodating. We got in a bit early and they were able to get us in the room much earlier which was much appreciated after a 10 hour of flight… the room was spotless and smelled amazing. There was even a beautiful snack and champagne waiting as a welcome gift! Staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. We had breakfast, lunch, ...

This was a fantastic hotel. The food was incredible, the spa was luxurious and the service was great. The rooms were also very comfortable. I'd highly recommend for the hotel itself - it was perfect. My only reservation is the location. If you plan on tourist activities, it is at least 30 minute walk to most places, so you will either need to walk a lot or take taxis or the metro. However, i...

This hotel is a true gem boutique hotel. Vintage decor is tasteful and cozy, the staff was incredibly polite and nice, the spa is well run. Location is very good too. The only thing I can fault is the parking situation - it’s a hassle because you need to park a few minutes away and it takes time.
