Design elements include tasteful, contemporary coastal decor with subtle colors and wicker furnishings. Guests can expect gas fireplaces and/or heated floors (particularly appreciated in winter), fully equipped kitchens or kitchenettes in suites, and oversized bathrooms often featuring soaking tubs and glass walk-in showers. Standard in-room amenities include L'Occitane bath products, flat-screen TVs, iPod docking stations, and complimentary Wi-Fi. Various room types, including one and two-bedroom suites, are available, with select options being pet-friendly.
4. Dining Experience
The on-site Sea Glass restaurant receives high praise for its "delicious" and "superb" cuisine, with many guests enjoying the beautiful ocean views and al fresco dining options. The menu focuses on seasonal, regionally sourced American cuisine, catering to diverse dietary needs with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. Breakfast is highlighted for its quality, featuring locally sourced eggs and seafood, and notably avoids typical "syrup meals" like waffles or pancakes. Lunch and dinner menus evolve with the seasons, showcasing Maine's bounty, including fresh lobster, local fish, and farm-fresh vegetables. The Inn's extensive wine cellar, with over 3,000 bottles and 350 labels, has earned Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence 2025. The hotel is about 15 minutes from Portland International Jetport (PWM).
7. Value & Pricing

Guests should be aware of a resort fee, typically around 6.54% of the room rate, which covers amenities such as beach access, fitness center access, internet, and in-room bottled water and coffee. Cooked-to-order breakfast is available for an additional fee, ranging from USD 15 to 250 per person.
8. Common Complaints
While overwhelmingly positive, some minor criticisms have been noted. One guest mentioned that the "drinks at the bar were not our favorites." Another expressed a desire for a higher floor, potentially indicating a preference for specific views or increased privacy. Due to its family-friendly nature, travelers seeking a quieter stay without the "hustle and bustle of kids" during peak times might consider other options.

What an amazing place.! Food was great and the dog menu was a pleasant surprise. Thank you Eva for the most excellent attention and customer service! Our room had a great view and was above and beyond our expectations. Bed was comfy and the bathroom was like a spa experience. The walk down to the beach was lovely and the whole place was so dog friendly.

We had a lovely stay at the Inn at the Sea earlier this month. The Inn has a goal of "exceeding the customer's expectations" and in many respects they achieved that goal. The front desk staff was very helpful and always pleasant. The room was nicely appointed and we loved the balcony. The chef also offers a menu and service for pets. When we checked in, there were dog treats, water bowl and a...

I really wanted to love this place, but the overall guest experience fell short of expectations. First of the good- the food and drink at the resort were excellent and exceeded my expectations. We are dog people, and love their pet friendly policy. Where things fell short- Stayed at the The Inn by the Sea to celebrate an engagement. A few days in advance of our stay, I called the resort and tol...

If I could give 6 stars I would!!! This is one of the most beautiful Inns I’ve ever stayed at. Amazing staff, great atmosphere, safe area. I booked the Garden Suite and it was an amazing room, no complaints. Not to mention, you can walk directly to the beach through the back of the Inn! Will definitely be back to Portland because of this Inn alone!

So stunning! First, thank you for being dog friendly. It’s such a relief to see the staff treat our pup like a member of our family. Other hotels say dog friendly but then refer to him as “the dog.” This staff goes crazy for dogs and if’s beautiful to see. So much so that the hotel provides a temporary home for a shelter dog before adoption. Brilliant. The rooms are fantastic. Spacious, beautiful...

1 star is not for the inn itself, which is a sublime and peaceful retreat. I've been coming here every winter with friends and family for several years through their Habitat for Humanity offer, also appreciating their support of that organization. However, I learned the hard way that their cancellation policy is absolutely firm, even for medical reasons. If you have any health issues or any possib...
