Hotel Savoy Florence: A Rocco Forte Hotel – A Luxurious Florentine Experience

Hotel Savoy, a Rocco Forte Hotel, consistently receives exceptional praise as a prime luxury destination in the heart of Florence, Italy. Its Michelin Key selection further underscores its standing as a top-tier property. Guests frequently highlight the impeccable service, unbeatable central location, sophisticated design, and high-quality amenities as reasons for its stellar reputation.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus for Hotel Savoy Florence is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests rating it as "exceptional". Review scores often reach 9.5 or higher, with specific categories like location, cleanliness, comfort, and staff frequently scoring 9.6 to 10.0. The sentiment is consistently one of delight and satisfaction, with many describing it as a "quality hotel" that truly understands hospitality.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently rave about several aspects of Hotel Savoy:

  • Service & Staff: The staff is frequently described as polite, helpful, friendly, professional, and knowledgeable, particularly the concierge and reception teams. Their attention to detail and genuine warmth are recurring themes in reviews.
  • Location: Situated directly on the Piazza della Repubblica, the hotel boasts an "unbeatable" and "super-central" location. It's just steps away from major attractions like the Duomo, Uffizi Gallery, and Ponte Vecchio. This allows guests to explore Florence easily on foot.
  • Design & Ambiance: The hotel's design is frequently lauded as elegant, contemporary, chic, and sophisticated, successfully blending Italian design with Florentine heritage. The 2018 renovations, in collaboration with Emilio Pucci, brought a refreshing and colorful new look to the lobby and restaurant terrace. Recurring design motifs include shoe imagery, a nod to Florence's fashion houses.
  • Amenities: Guests appreciate the well-equipped facilities, which include a brilliant 24-hour fitness center, a yoga studio, and a cozy bar. In-room amenities typically include Smart TVs, minibars, air-conditioning, bathrobes, and Irene Forte Skincare products.

3. Room Quality

The rooms and suites at Hotel Savoy are consistently praised for their comfort, spaciousness, and elegant design. Designed by Olga Polizzi, the interiors feature luxe fabrics, paints, and papers in soothing hues like green, beige, and duck-egg blue. High ceilings, parquet flooring, and bespoke furniture by local craftspeople contribute to a sophisticated and calming ambiance. Many rooms offer impressive views of the Piazza della Repubblica, Brunelleschi's dome, or Giotto's Bell Tower. Bathrooms are described as well-equipped, often featuring gleaming Carrera marble, double sinks, and both walk-in showers and bathtubs. Suites, such as the Junior Deluxe or Executive Suite, provide ample space with separate living areas and walk-in wardrobes.

4. Dining Experience

The hotel's dining experience, primarily centered around Irene Bistro and Bar Artemisia, receives high marks. Irene Bistro serves Tuscan specialties with a modern twist, crafted by chef Fulvio Pierangelini using local, seasonal produce. Dishes are praised for their fantastic flavors, with highlights including organic beef, fresh seafood grilled on Himalayan Salt Stone, and pasta with truffles or fresh tomatoes. Breakfast is generally considered wonderful, with a good selection and attentive staff. While some reviews describe breakfast as "pleasant" if "a little basic for an Italian luxury hotel," the option to dine al fresco on the terrace overlooking the piazza is a definite plus. The Artemesia bar is noted for its warm and cozy atmosphere, offering effervescent concoctions and a tempting snack menu.

5. Service & Staff

The hospitality at Hotel Savoy is consistently highlighted as a major strength. Guests frequently commend the staff for being exceptionally helpful, friendly, professional, and attentive. From the beaming doormen to the knowledgeable concierge team who assist with museum tickets, directions, and even car services, the personalized service leaves a lasting impression. Many reviewers note the staff's genuine smiles and eagerness to ensure a comfortable stay. The ability of staff to remember guest names is also mentioned as a sign of excellent attention to detail.

6. Location & Accessibility

Hotel Savoy's location on Piazza della Repubblica is considered "perfect" and "ultra-central". It offers immediate access to Florence's major sights, including the Duomo, Uffizi Gallery, and Ponte Vecchio, all within a short walking distance. The hotel is also conveniently located near major fashion houses. For transport, Florence Airport (Amerigo Vespucci) is about 20 minutes away by car, and the hotel can arrange transfers. While driving in the city center's restricted traffic zones (ZTL) can be challenging, the hotel can arrange temporary permits and offers private parking nearby. The main train station, Santa Maria Novella, is also easily accessible.

7. Value & Pricing

Hotel Savoy is a luxury property, and its pricing reflects this, with rates beginning around €600-€706 per night. While some reviews note that "luxury comes at a steep price tag," many guests feel it is worth the cost due to the exceptional service, prime location, and overall luxurious experience. "Value for money" scores are typically good, despite the higher price point. Breakfast is often an additional cost, around €45.

While overwhelmingly positive, a few minor recurring issues or criticisms have been noted:

  • Noise: Rooms facing the Piazza della Repubblica, while offering beautiful views, can experience some noise due to the lively square.
  • Lack of a full spa: Some guests note the absence of a dedicated spa, though the hotel does offer a fitness center and spa suite.
  • Breakfast cost/variety: While generally good, some feedback suggests the breakfast, though excellent, can be pricey if not included, and some guests found it a "little basic" compared to other luxury Italian hotels.

Best hotel experience I have ever had. If I could rate 100/10 I would! Staff were just simply in another league and made you feel like family. Great food, location so central, rooms quiet and very comfortable. I had a premium room (502) with a stunning view of the Duomo. Without doubt I’ll be back.

I have the privilege of staying at the best hotels around the globe as part of my travels. And not all luxury hotels deliver in the same way. Some rely on location, others on amenities, and most on simply reputation. And although the RF Hotel Savoy has those, they have something th...
