Some rooms also offer mountain views or balconies/loggias.

4. Dining Experience

The dining experience is a significant highlight at Hôtel Ithurria. The hotel boasts a one-Michelin-starred restaurant that serves refined French cuisine with a strong emphasis on Basque roots and local, seasonal products, many sourced from their own kitchen garden. Chef Martin Isabal, alongside his pastry-chef brother Louis, crafts delicate and enticing menus that often feature specialties like piperade, eggs with truffles, pigeon, and Basque lamb. Guests consistently describe the food as "exceptional," "delicious," and an "explosion of flavors," with remarkable food and wine pairings. The restaurant also offers tasting menus, such as a five-course degustation menu for €92 and a seven-course "Hunting" menu for €135, with optional wine pairings.

In addition to the gourmet restaurant, there is a more casual bistro open for lunch, offering creative and tasty dishes based on local products in a relaxed setting, often on the terrace under plane trees.

Breakfast, while generally described as excellent with fresh, delicious regional products, has received mixed feedback regarding its value. Some guests found the €20 per person price to be high, though the option to pay half price for just coffee and a croissant was noted. One review also mentioned bacon appearing uncooked.

The area offers opportunities for walking, and nearby attractions like Bayonne and Biarritz are a short drive away (approximately 30 minutes to the beach). 7. Value & Pricing

Room prices at Hôtel Ithurria typically start from around €140 to €182 per night for a double room. Family suites and apartments are priced higher, starting from €195 to €280. While the Michelin-starred dining is acknowledged as "very expensive," guests often deem it "worth it" for the exceptional quality. The overall value for money for the hotel stay itself is generally rated well (8.5/10 on Booking.com), indicating that guests feel the experience justifies the cost. Buffet breakfast is an additional €20 per person.

8. Common Complaints

While overwhelmingly positive, a few minor recurring criticisms have been noted:

  • Breakfast Price/Quality: Some guests found the breakfast price of €20 to be a bit high for the offering, and one specific comment mentioned uncooked bacon. However, the option for a reduced price for a smaller breakfast was appreciated.
  • Room Simplicity (Subjective): While many appreciate the "refreshingly simple" rooms that blend historical charm with modern comfort, some guests might expect a more luxurious or overtly modern aesthetic given the Michelin association, though this is not a widespread complaint.

The staff was very polite and professional. We felt well taken care of and honestly dressed up a little for breakfast because it was so nice and the buffet was impressive. We also dined there for dinner and enjoyed their prix fixe menu complete with local vegetables and regional wine. Apparently, they allow dogs inside the restaurant, which I find a little annoying personally, but I’m sure that do...

2 star rating to the restaurant, as the hotel was very pleasant. Our recent visit to Ithurria restaurant was quite a disappointment. Despite its Michelin star, the food was underwhelming in both taste and presentation. To make matters worse, both my husband and I experienced terrible stomach aches after our meal, leading to a sleepless night. The overall experience was far from what we anticipate...

Really enjoyed this place, biggest drawback is the main street through town is very busy because it is a route into Spain -- so there is road noise. But the hotel was nice, the restaurant enjoyable, and has a nice bar too. Good, creative food in the Basque tradition

This was without a doubt, the best tasting meal of my entire life. (mind you we toured many of the legends in Donostia and visited Azurmendi) My husband and I stumbled on this Michelin Starred restaurant while staying in San Sebastián/Donostia. It is about an hour drive, and a beautiful journey. We called on a weekday and were able to get reservations for an early dinner that evening. We were not ...
