Guests consistently praise this boutique hotel for its breathtaking natural setting, impeccable service, and serene atmosphere, making it a highly recommended destination for those seeking tranquility and an authentic experience in the heart of the Coffee Cultural Landscape.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The overwhelming sentiment for Hacienda Bambusa is one of exceptional satisfaction. Guests frequently describe their stays as "perfect," "magical," and "astonishing". It consistently receives high ratings, with scores of 9.5 for overall guest experience, 9.8 for cleanliness, 10 for comfort, and 9.6 for staff on review platforms. Many consider it one of their favorite places they have ever stayed.

2. Key Highlights

Guests are particularly enamored with several aspects of Hacienda Bambusa:

  • Serene Location & Design: The property's location on a 500-acre working cacao and avocado plantation, surrounded by majestic Andes mountains, offers an "oasis of peace and natural beauty". The traditional two-story villa, constructed with bamboo and clay, has been beautifully restored to blend rustic charm with luxurious touches. The well-tended gardens, filled with lush flowers and fruit trees, contribute to a picturesque setting.
  • Outstanding Service: The staff receives continuous accolades for being "incredible," "attentive," "friendly," and going above and beyond to make guests feel at home.
  • Immersive Activities: The hacienda offers a variety of on-site and nearby activities that allow guests to connect with the region, including complimentary bicycle rentals, guided cacao tours through the plantations, bird watching (over 160 species identified), coffee tastings, hiking, and horseback riding. An impressive bamboo forest with a picnic area is a highlight of the cacao tour.
  • Delicious Dining: The food, especially the breakfast and dinner, is frequently highlighted as a guest favorite.

3. Room Quality

Hacienda Bambusa features eight impeccably presented, spacious, and comfortable rooms, each uniquely decorated. They are designed for rest and relaxation, offering views of the swimming pool and/or the hotel gardens. Key features include:

  • Design & Comfort: Rooms are elegantly rustic with thick clay walls and wood beam ceilings. They boast king-sized beds with crisp white linens and excellent mattresses.
  • Amenities: All rooms come with a flat-screen cable TV, mini-bar, ironing facilities, air conditioning, and practically silent ceiling fans. Renovated bathrooms feature colorful ceramic tile, copper fixtures, a hairdryer, and L'Occitane products (according to an older review) or free toiletries.
  • Outdoor Spaces: Most rooms offer private balconies or patios, some with hammocks, providing stunning views and fresh air. Screens have been added to all windows, allowing guests to enjoy breezes without insects. Some suites even feature private terraces and swimming pools.

4. Dining Experience

The dining at Hacienda Bambusa is a significant highlight, consistently receiving praise for its quality and ambiance.

  • Gourmet Cuisine: The on-site restaurant serves a delicate and delicious variety of haute cuisine dishes, prepared exclusively for guests. Many ingredients are cultivated directly on the hacienda, emphasizing fresh, local produce. Chef Paula Serna is noted for redefining Colombian gastronomy with seasonal vegetables and premium local ingredients.
  • Lavish Breakfast: A wonderful breakfast buffet is served daily, often al fresco with mountain views, and includes fresh juices, fruits, an array of excellent fresh breads (including croissants), eggs to order, and, of course, exceptional Colombian coffee. Breakfast can also be enjoyed in the privacy of the guest rooms.
  • Romantic Dinners: Dinners are a particularly memorable experience, often served outdoors around the pool under candlelight, with white tablecloths and lanterns creating an elegant atmosphere. Meals frequently feature gourmet barbecue-style dishes with ample salads, ribs, chicken, beef, and chorizo. Live music sometimes accompanies the dining experience.

5. Service & Staff

The service and staff at Hacienda Bambusa are consistently rated as one of its strongest assets. Guests frequently use words like "incredible," "attentive," "friendly," "warm," and "magical" to describe the team. The staff is highly praised for going above and beyond to make guests feel at home. The presence of attentive, English-speaking staff is also appreciated by international visitors. From the moment of arrival, often greeted with cold towels and juice, the attention to detail is evident.

6. Location & Accessibility

Hacienda Bambusa is located in El Caimo, near Armenia, in the heart of Colombia's Coffee Triangle (Zona Cafetera), an area recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

  • Natural Setting: The hacienda is situated on a sprawling 500-acre working farm, surrounded by vast plantations of cacao and avocado, and boasts stunning views of the Central Andes Mountains. This remote setting provides an "off-the-beaten-track" peaceful environment.
  • Transportation: The closest airport is El Edén International Airport (AXM) in Armenia, approximately 25 minutes (5.5 miles) away, with daily flights to/from Bogotá. Pereira (1.5 hours away) and Cali (2 hours 15 minutes away) offer larger airports with international flights. The hotel offers airport shuttle services.
  • Accessibility Challenge: While the setting is beautiful, reaching the hacienda involves a "bumpy journey down a dirt road," which some guests note as a minor inconvenience, especially at night. Once on the property, guests may be reluctant to leave due to the access road.
  • Nearby Attractions: While remote, the hotel offers tours and is within reasonable driving distance of coffee villages like Salento and Filandia (about 1.5 hours) and the Cocora Valley (about 2 hours).

7. Value & Pricing

Hacienda Bambusa is a luxury boutique property, and its pricing reflects the high level of service, unique experience, and beautiful setting. As of January 28, 2026, a 1-night stay for two adults can start from approximately $420.37, excluding taxes and fees, with rates including breakfast and dinner. While many guests feel the experience is well worth the cost, some have noted that activities booked directly through the hotel, such as horseback riding (reportedly nearly $500 USD for one person in one instance) or certain tours, can be significantly more expensive than arranging them with local operators.

8. Common Complaints

Despite the overwhelmingly positive feedback, a few minor recurring issues have been mentioned by guests:

  • Access Road: The unpaved and sometimes bumpy dirt road leading to the hacienda is the most frequently cited minor complaint, particularly regarding its condition at night.
  • Activity Pricing: Some guests felt that the prices for tours and activities booked through the hotel were considerably higher than those offered by local providers.
  • Limited English (minor): A few older reviews mentioned some staff having limited English, which occasionally made meal times tricky, though this seems to be an infrequent comment and overall staff hospitality is consistently praised.
  • No Elevators: The property has two floors and does not have elevators, which could be a consideration for guests with mobility issues.

This is a fantastic hotel in the beautiful Eje Cafetero of Colombia. I’ve stayed twice now and the rooms are luxurious and the atmosphere always wonderfully tranquil. The service and food is first rate, fresh and generous; You’ll never be left hungry. There are plenty of tours both by the hotel and further afield. I recommend bird watching and going to a coffee plantation.
