Grand Hotel Don Gregorio, Salamanca: A Haven of Luxury and Exceptional Service

The Grand Hotel Don Gregorio in Salamanca, a Michelin Key Selected property, consistently earns glowing reviews, establishing itself as a top-tier luxury destination. Guests frequently laud its opulent ambiance, prime location, and, most notably, its exceptional and personalized service.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus for Grand Hotel Don Gregorio is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently describing their stays as "luxurious," "amazing," and "unforgettable." Many consider it the best hotel in Salamanca, citing its comfort, style, and excellent value.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently highlight several standout features of the hotel. The impeccable service and the warm, welcoming nature of the staff are frequently praised. Its ideal location in the historic center is another major draw, offering easy access to Salamanca's main attractions. The hotel's design, a superb restoration of a 15th-century palace, beautifully blends historical essence with modern luxury. Amenities such as the on-site spa and Nespresso machines in rooms also contribute to a highly comfortable and indulgent experience.

3. Room Quality

The 14 elegant rooms at Grand Hotel Don Gregorio are individually decorated and designed to offer 5-star comfort. Many rooms feature oak floors and are equipped with hydromassage bathtubs or rain showers, along with underfloor heating in the bathrooms. Guests appreciate the thoughtful touches like complimentary minibar items and premium bedding with Select Comfort mattresses. While most find the rooms beautifully styled and comfortable, a few minor issues with room size have been noted, and one guest mentioned a shower that wasn't very practical. Suites are described as spacious with a diaphonous design, emphasizing relaxation.

4. Dining Experience

The hotel boasts the Michelin-starred Ment Restaurant, led by renowned chef Óscar Calleja. Ment offers a fusion of Mexican, Asian, and Spanish cuisine, focusing on locally sourced ingredients and providing both à la carte options and a tasting menu. The breakfast experience is consistently rated as excellent, delicious, and varied, with a wide array of individually catered options.

5. Service & Staff

The service and staff at Grand Hotel Don Gregorio receive almost universal acclaim. Guests frequently describe the team as exceptionally kind, welcoming, helpful, courteous, friendly, professional, and attentive. The staff's discretion and willingness to go above and beyond to ensure a pleasant stay are recurring themes in reviews.

6. Location & Accessibility

The hotel's location is considered perfect for exploring Salamanca. Situated in the historic center on Calle San Pablo, it's directly opposite the San Esteban Convent and just a few meters or a five-minute walk from the iconic Plaza Mayor and the Cathedrals. This central position places guests within easy reach of the city's main attractions and historical sites.

7. Value & Pricing

Guests often perceive the Grand Hotel Don Gregorio as offering excellent value for a luxury establishment. Comments such as "great value" and "a steal for the rate they charge" suggest that the high quality of the experience surpasses expectations for the price. As of January 26, 2026, prices for a 1-night stay for two adults start around $198.49.

8. Common Complaints

While the overwhelming sentiment is positive, a few minor criticisms have been noted. Some guests have mentioned "minor issues with room size and amenities." Additionally, one reviewer found a "shower not very practical," which impacted their comfort. However, these appear to be isolated instances rather than widespread recurring problems, and they do not detract significantly from the overall high satisfaction expressed by guests.

An exquisite experience. From check in to check out (we spent there nights here), service was stellar. Room (we had the suite) was the size of a small apartment (minus a kitchen) and was immaculate. The bathroom was huge, and incredible shower, with lots of pressure. The suite also has an en suite jacuzzi and private sauna. Contrary to some other reviews, the sauna works just fine. Just give it so...

Lovely stay. The perfect first night on our trip to Spain and Portugal. The beds were very comfortable, room spacious. Walkable to all the sites in Salamanca, the view from the front door is great.

Sublime hotel. It has a really calm vibe to it, which combined with the staff’s amazing service, made for a really relaxing stay. The decor is beautiful, as are the rooms. The breakfast is one of the best I’ve ever had. You order from a menu so it arrives perfectly prepared and wonderfully presented. Plus it’s huge! The spa is a little expensive, but we had it to ourselves which made it worth the ...

Coming here is like going home. The “staff” are hosts, personable and human, unlike corporate hotels focused on efficiency and mock hospitality. The property is small, so there is an air of intimacy and trust among guests. The restaurant hustles to provide the best food and service. The location is ideal, close to the action but removed enough to be calm and quiet. In other words, I never wanted t...
