1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus for The Barcelona EDITION is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently describing their stays as "excellent" and "impressive". It garners high ratings across various platforms, with an average of 4.6 out of 5 stars based on numerous reviews. Guests often praise the hotel for its blend of elegance and contemporary style, making it a standout luxury boutique property in the city.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently laud several aspects of The Barcelona EDITION:

  • Service: The staff's genuine warmth, professionalism, and eagerness to assist are frequently highlighted, with many guests receiving personalized recommendations and assistance.
  • Location: Situated in the heart of the El Born neighborhood, adjacent to the Santa Caterina Market and on the edge of the Gothic Quarter, the hotel boasts an "ideal" and "unbeatable" location for exploring major attractions like the Picasso Museum, Barcelona Cathedral, and Plaça de Catalunya.
  • Design: The hotel's "gilded minimalism" and "contemporary and elegant" aesthetic, envisioned by Ian Schrager in collaboration with Lázaro Rosa-Violán and Carlos Ferrater Studio, receive high praise. Features like plush walnut paneling, marble bathrooms, and bespoke artworks create a chic yet cozy atmosphere.
  • Amenities: The stunning rooftop bar with panoramic city views and a plunge pool is a major draw. Other appreciated amenities include a well-equipped 24-hour fitness center, multiple dining venues, and complimentary Wi-Fi. The hotel is also committed to sustainability, aiming for a plastic-free environment.

3. Room Quality

The 100 rooms and suites are described as spacious, chic, and the "epitome of modern luxury". They feature neutral color palettes, rich walnut paneling, and marble bathrooms with high-end fixtures and Le Labo amenities. Guests report comfortable, plush beds with custom-made mattresses, soft pillows, and silky 300-thread-count sateen sheets, ensuring a great night's sleep. Many rooms offer impressive views, with select suites and penthouses boasting private furnished terraces with city or Gothic Quarter vistas. Standard room amenities include free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, minibars, Nespresso machines, bathrobes, and hairdryers.

4. Dining Experience

The Barcelona EDITION offers a diverse and highly-regarded dining experience across its various venues.

  • Bar Veraz: The main restaurant, located on the ground floor, is praised for its Mediterranean cuisine, focusing on fresh, seasonal ingredients from the adjacent Santa Caterina Market. It offers an à la carte breakfast, affordable dishes, and features a striking central bar. The breakfast options, including congee and dumplings, are noted as excellent.
  • The Roof: This open-air bar and restaurant on the 10th floor provides unparalleled panoramic city views and serves a pan-Asian menu, signature cocktails, and Latin-American inspired dishes. It's a popular spot for sunset cocktails and lively DJ sessions.
  • Punch Room: Accessed via a spiral staircase, this moody, speakeasy-style lounge is known for its handcrafted cocktails and specialty punches.
  • Cabaret: An opulent underground lounge and dining venue reminiscent of iconic discothèques, offering a captivating late-night experience with a themed tasting menu and dynamic entertainment.

Average room prices typically range from around $308 to $684 per night, depending on the room type and booking conditions. Some guests find the value for money to be very good or excellent, while others note that the rates can be a bit steep. Special rates, often including breakfast and flexible cancellation, can offer better value. Many believe that the "exceptional amenities and world-class service" justify the cost, making it a "truly worthwhile investment" for an unforgettable luxury experience.

8. Common Complaints

While reviews are overwhelmingly positive, some recurring minor issues or criticisms include:

  • Room Size: A few guests have found standard rooms to be a bit cramped, especially for two people, suggesting that for a $400+ room, the size might be a drawback compared to other Barcelona hotels. The wardrobe space in some rooms has also been noted as small.
  • Water Pressure & Towel Consistency: One guest mentioned weak water pressure and inconsistent softness of towels.
  • Rooftop Bar Access: The rooftop bar can sometimes be closed for private parties, which has been a point of frustration for some guests who prioritize hotel amenities.
  • Minor Maintenance/Wear: Some reviews have mentioned that the hotel, particularly certain furniture, flooring, or wood paneling, might be showing slight signs of wear and could benefit from a refresh.
  • Front Desk Size: The front desk has been described as "too small to cope with a busy day at a 100 room property".
  • Service Inconsistencies (Rare): While service is generally highly praised, a few isolated incidents report minor disappointments, such as delays in room readiness or missed birthday amenities, even for Marriott Gold members.

We arrived very early in the morning on a flight from Atlanta and although we were earlier than check in, the staff at The Edition hotel went above and beyond. They held our luggage as we walked around El Born and the Gothic quarter and hit the Como museum and lunch. Our room was ready ahead of time and we had a great corner room facing the tiled market next door. We had an enormous bathtub that ...
