2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently laud several aspects of the Granada Hotel & Bistro:

  • Design & Ambiance: The hotel's beautiful, unique, and charming decor, featuring modern industrial design elements, exposed brick walls, restored hardwood floors, and antique Persian rugs, creates a cozy and inviting atmosphere.
  • Amenities: Notable amenities include a rooftop terrace with a fireplace, lavish indoor lounges with fireplaces and Persian rugs, coffee, patios, and free bike rentals for exploring the city. Select suites may also feature private balconies.

3. Room Quality

The rooms at Granada Hotel & Bistro are praised as excellent, comfortable, and inviting, with thoughtful design and attention to detail. They feature modern amenities and plush furnishings, often styled with antique Persian rugs, hardwood floors, brick walls, original artwork, and flat-screen TVs. It serves Spanish and Latin American cuisine, with traditional and fusion dishes inspired by local agricultural riches, and has been recognized in travel guides, including the Michelin Guide. Guests rave about the quality and attention to detail, citing dishes like "excellent onion soup" and "amazing market fish." The bistro offers nightly dinner and weekend brunch. Additionally, the hotel features "Nightcap," a speakeasy-like cocktail lounge known for its exquisitely crafted cocktails. For breakfast and lighter fare, the hotel also operates a coffee shop and concept store.

5. Service & Staff

Guests appreciate the warm welcome, often including a complimentary glass of wine upon check-in, and personalized touches like staff walking guests to their rooms. The front desk personnel are noted for being informative, chatty, and lovely, contributing to an overall feeling of being valued.

6. Location & Accessibility

The hotel's location in the vibrant heart of downtown San Luis Obispo is a major asset. It's a mere 3-minute walk to various shops, cafes, and art galleries, and within a 5-minute walk of attractions like Fremont Theater and Bubblegum Alley. This central position makes it an ideal starting point for exploring the city on foot or utilizing the complimentary bike rentals provided by the hotel. San Luis Obispo is also conveniently located about a 4-hour drive from both Los Angeles and San Francisco, and the regional airport (SBP) is only 10 minutes away by car.

On-site overnight parking is available for a fee ($20 per day) but is limited and cannot be reserved in advance. An alternative paid parking structure is located less than a block away. Guests should note that on Thursday evenings, Morro Street closes for the Farmer's Market, making the on-site parking lot inaccessible from 5 pm to 9 pm. One recurring point mentioned is the lack of an elevator, which might be a consideration for some guests.

7. Value & Pricing

While the Granada Hotel & Bistro offers a luxury boutique experience, guests generally find its pricing to be a "pretty fair price" for the quality of hospitality and unique design. Agoda rates its value for money at 9.1 out of 10. Average nightly rates have been observed around $320 for weeknights and $376 for weekend nights, though prices can start from $178. March is typically the cheapest month to stay, with an average 33% drop in price, while April is the most expensive, seeing an average 45% rise.

8. Common Complaints

Despite the overwhelmingly positive feedback, a few common criticisms emerge:

  • Room Size: Some guests have mentioned that certain room sizes can be on the smaller side.
  • No Elevator: The absence of an elevator can be a drawback for guests with mobility issues or heavy luggage.
  • Noise: Due to its downtown location, early morning street noise, such as street sweeping around 3 am and landscaping noise between 6:15 am and 6:40 am, has been reported as an issue by some guests.
  • Parking: On-site parking is limited, paid, and can be challenging to navigate, especially considering its inaccessibility during Thursday evening Farmer's Markets.
  • In-Room Amenities: A few reviews note the absence of a refrigerator in some rooms and only one small wastebasket.
  • Traditional Keys: The use of traditional keys means doors do not automatically lock, requiring guests to remember to secure their rooms manually.
  • Breakfast: While the hotel has a coffee shop offering breakfast, some guests noted that breakfast is not directly served at the main Bistro on-site.

This is a review of the bistro only. I want to love this place. I've been a few times for dinner and twice for Thanksgiving. Here's what I've experienced: inconsistency. Thanksgiving was excellent service, but the food was cold. Last night dinner: we were sitting ten minutes before someone came to give us water and take our drink order--and that was only after we flagged them down. The food was g...

Spent a few days here for my birthday and it was magical. We came in August so we were fortunate enough to miss out on it being busy with college students. Everything was amazing and we are thinking of making this a yearly visit! Wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else. This review is for the Bistro. Service is 1 star out of 5. We just had a Sunday brunch at the Bistro where we had a great experience with Taste of SLO Food Walking Tour last November but it was not as great as we expected. Servers are rather relaxed and not attentive. they like hanging out at the bar counter area all the way inside away from patio tables. It took for a while until we could plac...

We have enjoyed this beautiful hotel many times since our daughter moved to San Luis Obispo about 2 1/2 years ago. The location is perfect and the hotel itself is still so charming but I feel it may be under new management that is not as desirable as it use to be. Charming services like morning light breakfast and coffee has been cut down to coffee only. Other services were not as friendly or a...

Okay this review is for the BISTRO. Which absolutely nailed our brunch. I went with three friends, and from the moment we sat down, our waitress set the tone, she was a total star. She not only gave us fantastic recommendations but handled all our menu tweaks and food alterations with genuine enthusiasm (and zero attitude, which is rare these days). The food was fantastic: highly recommend chilaq...

Great location and the staff was super nice when checking in. Rooms had that moody novelty look but the function wasn't ideal. The lighting was so dim you couldn't see anything very well and putting on your makeup was near impossible. Nothing to put your overnight bag on no other space besides a couple of hangers. . And no vanity space for all the essentials. It was fine for one night.
