Expert Review: Dandelion Como Suites & Park
Dandelion Como Suites & Park in Villa Guardia, Italy, a Michelin Key Selected property, generally garners overwhelmingly positive reviews, offering a serene and luxurious escape in the Lombard countryside.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The overall sentiment for Dandelion Como Suites & Park is exceptionally positive, often described as a "serene haven" and a "magical" place. Guests frequently praise the "fantastic building and overall feeling" and the "special and tasteful" ambiance. The Michelin Guide awards it a high score of 19.0 out of 20 for overall experience, reflecting its status as a top-tier hotel. While some isolated issues regarding service speed have been noted, the general consensus points to a highly enjoyable and memorable stay.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently highlight several outstanding features:
- Design & Ambiance: The hotel is a beautifully restored 15th-century agricultural estate, blending period architecture with rustic simplicity, aristocratic elegance, and a calming contemporary color palette. The ambiance is described as unique, special, and tasteful, set within a historic 20,000 square meter park and a charming internal courtyard.
- Service & Staff: The staff is frequently lauded as "incredibly friendly," "smiling and helpful," "very kind," and "attentive."
- Location: Its quiet location in the peaceful Lombard countryside, a short drive from Como, offers an "oasis to rest" and a tranquil retreat, while remaining accessible to Lake Como attractions and Milan.
- Amenities: A seasonal outdoor swimming pool (opening June 2025), a Finnish sauna, spa facilities, and a beautiful garden provide ample opportunities for relaxation. The property is also noted as very pet-friendly.
3. Room Quality
The rooms, suites, and apartments at Dandelion Como Suites & Park are designed to be unique and charming. They are consistently described as "really nice big," "spacious," "quiet and clean," and "very comfortable." The renovation carefully preserved original elements such as Lombard terracotta flooring, chestnut wood beams, and 19th-century windows. Natural materials like lime treated with wax and wood for floors are used, and furnishings include vintage Italian design pieces and unique items from local artisans, featuring exclusive fabrics from the owner's family business. Guests benefit from high-quality 100% cotton bed and bath linens, along with excellent mattresses for optimal comfort. Modern amenities include air-conditioning, private bathrooms, free WiFi, flat-screen TVs, and minibars. Apartments also come equipped with kitchenettes, suitable for longer stays.
4. Dining Experience
The hotel boasts a modern and romantic on-site restaurant, Arabella, which receives strong praise for its "tasty" Italian and local cuisines. Many guests describe it as "exclusive" and "of a very high standard," with options available for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets. Dinner is often highlighted as an "amazing" experience.
Breakfast, served in the old stable, is generally rated highly (guest review score: 8.9), featuring continental, buffet, Italian, and local specialties, along with fresh pastries, fruits, and juices. However, some guests have expressed concerns about slow and disorganized service during breakfast, limited choices, and occasional missing items like bread, yogurt, or eggs. There are also isolated criticisms of "cheap breakfast," including "industrial powder for scrambled eggs" and "sad ham."
5. Service & Staff
The service and staff at Dandelion Como Suites & Park are a consistent highlight for many guests. They are frequently described as "incredibly friendly," "smiling and helpful everywhere," "very kind," "attentive," "efficient," and "welcoming." The team is often praised for making guests feel at home and for their passion and care.
Despite this overwhelming praise, some guests have reported instances of "consistently very slow and disorganized" service, particularly in the restaurant and at breakfast, with long waits for menus, drinks, and food. Some feedback suggests that the staff, though polite, appeared "overwhelmed and likely not well trained" during busy periods.
6. Location & Accessibility
Dandelion Como Suites & Park is situated in Villa Guardia, within the peaceful Lombard countryside. It offers a tranquil setting "a short drive from Como," "close to Milan, and near the Swiss border," making it a convenient base for exploring the region. The location is lauded for its quietness and as an "oasis to rest."
The property is approximately 43 km (27 miles) from Milan Malpensa Airport. While its location is excellent for those with a car to visit Lake Como and its surroundings, it can be "a little challenging without" personal transport. Nearby attractions include Golf Club Monticello (3 km) and Baradello Castle (10 km). Some guests have noted potential noise from a nearby motorway or a "helicopter base nearby."
7. Value & Pricing
As a Michelin Key Selected property, Dandelion Como Suites & Park operates at a higher price point, reflecting its luxury offerings, unique design, and high service standards. While specific price ranges were not universally available, one review noted that the "high rates" led to higher expectations for service, which were not always met. Another guest suggested that booking directly through the hotel might be slightly more expensive than through online travel agencies. Generally, guests seem to consider it a worthwhile experience for a special stay, appreciating the quality and atmosphere it provides.
8. Common Complaints
While generally well-received, some recurring issues or criticisms have been noted:
- Service Speed and Organization: The most consistent complaint concerns slow and disorganized service, particularly during peak times for breakfast and dinner, leading to long waits for food and drinks.
- Breakfast Quality and Variety: A few guests found the breakfast offerings to be somewhat limited or of lower quality than expected, with some specific mentions of "industrial powder for scrambled eggs" and "sad ham."
- Noise: Isolated comments refer to potential noise from a nearby motorway or a helicopter base.
- Lack of Lunch Offering: One guest expressed disappointment that lunch was not offered, leading them to leave earlier than planned.
- Accessibility Without a Car: While ideal for those with a vehicle, guests without a car might find the location slightly less convenient.
- Room Specifics: One review mentioned a preference for a shower over a bathtub, indicating some rooms might only feature bathtubs.

Stayed here one night, a really charming place, big room, beautiful surroundings, cosy restaurant, all the personal were really polite, the breakfast lady was super polite. The only thing which was missing, was the ’green stuff’ at breakfast. We had also our small dog with us and he was allowed to go everywhere:)

Beautiful hotel and rooms - gorgeous high ceilings and beautifully decorated. Lovely grounds. Easy to get into Como. Staff were very helpful in providing recommendations for booking things in Como ahead of our arrival. One star missed for the slightly lack lustre (and often late running) breakfast buffet, but otherwise amazing.
