Expert Review: Cour des Loges
Cour des Loges, a Radisson Collection Hotel in Lyon, France, is a distinguished property known for its seamless blend of Renaissance charm and five-star modern comfort, earning its selection in the Michelin Key. Housed within a complex of interconnected historic buildings dating from the 14th to the 17th centuries, the hotel offers a unique and memorable stay in the heart of Vieux Lyon.
Overall Rating & Sentiment
The general consensus for Cour des Loges is overwhelmingly positive, with guests consistently rating it highly. On TripAdvisor, it holds an impressive 4.5 out of 5 stars from over 1,700 reviews, with a significant majority classifying their experience as "Excellent" or "Very Good". Other platforms also reflect strong approval, with high scores for location (9.5), cleanliness (9.2), comfort (9.4), and staff (9.5). Guests often describe their stay as wonderful, unforgettable, and an "oasis in Lyon" due to the captivating architecture and peaceful atmosphere.
Key Highlights
Guests particularly appreciate the hotel's striking architecture and historic ambiance, which many find worth visiting for alone. Its prime location in the UNESCO-listed Vieux Lyon is a major draw, placing guests amidst charming cobblestone streets and historic attractions. The exceptional service and friendly staff are frequently highlighted. Furthermore, the hotel's amenities, including a serene spa with an indoor swimming pool, sauna, hammam, and hot tub, along with a Michelin-starred restaurant, contribute significantly to the luxury experience.
Room Quality
Cour des Loges features 61 unique rooms and suites, each with its own personality and a blend of antique character and modern design. Guests can expect features such as painted wood beams, frescoes, vaulted ceilings, and unique chandeliers. While rooms are equipped with modern conveniences, the furnishings often combine period pieces with contemporary touches, creating an elegant and cozy feel. Bathrooms are generally modern, with some offering bathtubs and showers. However, some rooms are noted as being on the smaller side or having decor that can feel dark with limited lighting. Certain duplex rooms feature bedrooms and bathrooms on separate levels, and some bathtubs are openly situated within the bedrooms, which might impact privacy for some guests.
Dining Experience
The hotel offers a notable culinary experience with two restaurants: Les Loges and Le Comptoir. Les Loges is a Michelin-starred gastronomic restaurant helmed by Chef Anthony Bonnet, offering a fine dining experience in a romantic courtyard setting under a contemporary glass-steel canopy. Le Comptoir provides a more casual bistronomic option, serving traditional Lyonese cuisine. Breakfast, served in the indoor courtyard, is highly praised for its quality and local touches, featuring a buffet with breads, pastries, yogurt, and charcuterie, along with à la carte options like a daily special egg that guests have found to be exceptional.
Service & Staff
The staff and service at Cour des Loges receive consistent acclaim, often described as "outstanding," "kind," "helpful," and "flawless". Guests appreciate the personal touch, with staff members greeting them with pastries and water upon arrival, and offering knowledgeable recommendations about the property's history and local attractions. The concierge service is particularly well-regarded for its assistance with sightseeing and restaurant bookings.
Location & Accessibility
The hotel boasts an "excellent" and "perfect" location in Vieux Lyon, the city's historic Old Town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is conveniently situated within walking distance of major attractions such as Saint-Jean-Baptiste Cathedral, the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, and Place Bellecour, as well as charming lanes filled with restaurants and shops. The area is known for its car-free streets, which contributes to its unique atmosphere. However, accessibility can be a consideration; the hotel is located in a restricted traffic zone requiring a code for vehicle entry, and the cobblestone streets may pose a challenge for certain types of luggage, with backpacks or small, light wheeled suitcases being more suitable. Lyon Part-Dieu Train Station is about 1.9 miles away, and Lyon Saint Exupéry Airport is a 32-minute drive.
Value & Pricing
Cour des Loges is generally considered to offer excellent value for the luxurious experience it provides. While prices vary based on dates and policies, a recent search indicated a starting rate of approximately $290.36 for a one-night stay for two adults. Additional costs include valet parking at EUR 49 per night and buffet breakfast at EUR 38 per person. Pets are welcome for an additional fee of EUR 30 per night.
Common Complaints
Despite the overwhelmingly positive feedback, some recurring criticisms include:
- Room Size and Lighting: A few guests have noted that rooms can be on the smaller side or have dark decor and poor lighting, which might not appeal to everyone.
- Room Layouts: The unique layouts of some rooms, such as duplex suites with bedrooms and bathrooms on separate levels, or bathtubs located within the bedroom area, may present privacy concerns or be inconvenient for some travelers.
- Accessibility for Less Mobile Guests: The labyrinthine complex of interconnected historic buildings with winding staircases, while charming, might be challenging for guests with limited mobility.
- Restaurant Availability: The Michelin-starred restaurant, Les Loges, is not open every day, which some guests might find restrictive if they wish to dine there.

We checked in quite late by car which is a bit of a challenge, as this hotel is located in the old town section with limited driving. A code is required for vehicle entry and driving instructions provided from hotel staff were excellent, parking a breeze. Upon check in, we were warmly welcomed by staff members who even upgraded our room without us even requesting it. This hotel is an old building...

The historic building is stunning, especially on the inside, and it is one street away from the main tourist drag of the Old Town yet managed to feel separate from it. The downside of the location is that the taxi refused to take us to the hotel and we had to drag our bags for a few hundred meters through the throng of tourists to the hotel. Not the fault of the hotel, per se, but an inauspicious...
