1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The general consensus for Château de la Bourdaisière is highly positive, with guests frequently describing their stays as "fantastic," "memorable," and an "authentic chateau stay experience." It holds an "Excellent" rating with a score of 8.9 based on over 830 reviews on Booking.com, with high scores for location (9.4), cleanliness (9.1), and staff (9.2). Many travelers praise its charm and the feeling of being in a stately family home.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently laud the beautiful location and the stunning, extensive grounds and gardens as major highlights. The property is renowned for its National Tomato Conservatory, featuring hundreds of varieties, and the beautiful dahlia garden, which are often cited as unique and enjoyable features. The authentic atmosphere, with its historic building and traditional furnishings, is also a significant draw. Amenities such as the outdoor pool, tennis court, and library are appreciated for providing relaxation and entertainment. The hotel's central location in the Loire Valley makes it an ideal base for exploring nearby chateaux like Chenonceau, Tours, and Amboise.
3. Room Quality
The rooms and apartments, spread across the main château and its outbuildings, are individually decorated, aiming to evoke the sensation of staying in a grand family home. They feature high, wood-beamed ceilings, thick stone walls, and elegant decor with classic French fabrics and furnishings, some even including Marie-Antoinette-style beds. Many rooms offer lovely views of the expansive park and gardens. Guests generally find the beds comfortable, spacious, and clean. While some rooms are described as spacious with large, updated bathrooms, a few guests have noted that certain areas, including rooms and carpets, show signs of wear and could benefit from modernization.
4. Dining Experience
The dining experience at Château de la Bourdaisière receives mixed but generally positive feedback. The on-site restaurant, "Le Bar à Tomates," which utilizes the chateau's extensive tomato harvest, is often praised for its "fantastic" and "delicious" dinner, offering good value and quality with seasonal ingredients. However, the breakfast experience is a recurring point of contention. Many guests find it "overpriced" and "minimal," often consisting primarily of bread with additional charges for items like eggs and bacon. Some also mentioned limited dinner options, with the restaurant occasionally being closed or offering a restricted menu.
5. Service & Staff
The staff at Château de la Bourdaisière are frequently commended for being "friendly," "helpful," "professional," and "attentive," contributing significantly to a wonderful stay. Guests have highlighted impeccable service, particularly from the front desk. However, a few isolated reports mention slow or limited service and some staff being perceived as "a little cold" or "snobby" at dinner.
6. Location & Accessibility
The château is idyllically situated in a large, densely-wooded park in Montlouis-sur-Loire, offering a serene countryside retreat. Its central position makes it an excellent base for exploring the famous Loire Valley chateaux, as well as the cities of Tours and Amboise, all within easy reach by car. Free parking is available on-site, which is a convenient amenity for guests with vehicles. Montlouis-sur-Loire Veretz Station is about an 18-minute walk away.
7. Value & Pricing
While specific prices vary by room type and season, rooms can range from approximately €124 to €353 per night, and apartments from €211 per night. The peak season in August sees prices rise by an average of 29%, while October is the cheapest month. Many guests feel that the overall experience, particularly given the beautiful setting and authentic ambiance, offers good value for money, scoring 8.6 for value on Booking.com. However, the high price of breakfast is a common concern regarding value.

Magnificent Chateau with a wonderful collection of heritage tomatoes in the gounds. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. The restaurant set outside in the grounds was fantastic. A simple set menu with produce from the garden, expertly prepared and served. One, if not the best, chateau we have stayed at. Breakfast was equally superb. Highly recommended

We stayed here as part of a tour group. Our room was in the annex which is the adjacent building. The main building is amazing with lots of interesting items (caves, gardens, trails, exhibits, mini Eiffel Tower) on the grounds. Have to say that this was one of the most memorable experiences of our tour. This is not your average hotel, which can be a positive or a negative depending on your exp...

This Chateau is a big hotel. Rooms are traditional and hotel has tried to maintain its aesthetics. Decor and furnisyalso are traditional. Beds and Bathrooms are good. There's nice view everywhere around. You may go for a walk anytime. Lots of parking here and many fruit trees in the parking area.

This place has a lot of hit and misses. Great historical building that looks fantastic from the outside and might be quite charming from the inside as well, but it is not so well maintained . Rooms can be okay with some old change, but the bathrooms are in real need of an update. The garden and the forest are amazing, but the place gets almost dead in the evening, with no activity and it feels you...
