Expert Review: Caruso Place Boutique & Wellness Suites

Caruso Place Boutique & Wellness Suites, a Michelin Key Selected property in Naples, Italy, consistently earns high praise for its exceptional location, attentive staff, and stylish accommodations, housed within a 16th-century palace.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

Caruso Place Boutique & Wellness Suites generally receives a "Very Good" rating, often scoring around 8.2 out of 10 based on hundreds of guest reviews. The sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently highlighting their satisfaction with the hotel's central location, the professionalism and friendliness of the staff, and the cleanliness of the property.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently rave about several aspects of Caruso Place:

  • Service: The staff is described as "super-friendly, helpful and efficient" and "fantastic always helpful." Many guests commend the "professional and kind" team, noting their willingness to go above and beyond, such as assisting guests stranded without a taxi at night by sending a hotel car.
  • Location: The hotel boasts an "excellently located, in the very heart of Naples" position that "can't be better." It's centrally located to major attractions, shopping areas, numerous restaurants, the ferry terminal, and metro stations. The property notably overlooks the iconic Galleria Umberto I and is a short walk from Teatro di San Carlo.
  • Design: Housed in a historic 16th-century palace, the hotel offers a stylish ambiance with curated decor and modern, fresh rooms. Its Art Deco architecture adds to its charm.
  • Amenities: Standard amenities include free WiFi, air conditioning, and a 24-hour front desk. Rooms come equipped with minibars and coffee/tea makers. For those seeking relaxation, the wellness suites feature jacuzzis, and the onsite spa offers manicures, deep-tissue massages, and facials.

3. Room Quality

Rooms at Caruso Place are frequently described as "fresh, modern, and spacious" and "spotlessly clean." Guests appreciate the "beautiful building and rooms," noting the "huge bathroom[s]" and "very comfy beds." All accommodations are air-conditioned and include flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, kettles, bidets, free toiletries, and desks. Private bathrooms often feature impressive chromotherapy showers. Suites can be more expansive, with some offering balconies that provide city or landmark views, including the Teatro San Carlo or the Galleria. The Wellness Suites further enhance the experience with in-room jacuzzis. For comfort, rooms are equipped with hypo-allergenic premium bedding, memory foam mattresses, and pillow menus.

4. Dining Experience

The hotel offers a "delicious and elegantly served breakfast", which is often described as "fairly lavish" and a "continental buffet." While some characterize it as a "small but delicious breakfast", it provides a tasty start to the day with a selection of pastries, bread, cereals, fruits, and yogurts. The property also houses a cafe and a bar, and offers appetizers, pastries, and wine tasting later in the day. While there isn't a full-service restaurant on-site, guests note that Naples' vibrant culinary scene provides abundant dining options, and the hotel staff is well-equipped to offer recommendations.

5. Service & Staff

The service at Caruso Place receives consistent glowing reviews. The staff is repeatedly praised for being "super-friendly, helpful and efficient" and "really friendly and helpful." Guests highlight their professionalism, kindness, and attentiveness, often mentioning specific individuals by name for their outstanding assistance before and during their stay. The team is noted for proactively helping guests, even sending a hotel car when a taxi was unavailable late at night. Multilingual staff further enhance the guest experience.

6. Location & Accessibility

The hotel's location is a significant draw, situated in the bustling city center, "in the very heart of Naples." It offers easy walking access to numerous major attractions, including Maschio Angioino, Teatro di San Carlo, Palazzo Reale Napoli, and Piazza Plebiscito. The hotel is also perfectly positioned for shopping and accessing a wide array of restaurants. For broader exploration, it's a short walk to the Toledo Metro Station, considered one of the city's most beautiful, providing connections to sites like the Naples National Archaeological Museum and Spaccanapoli. The Augusteo station, also nearby, offers funicular access to Vomero Hill for panoramic city views. An airport shuttle service is available upon request for an additional fee.

7. Value & Pricing

While the hotel is generally seen as offering "Good value for money", it's important to note that it provides a premium experience in Naples. Average room rates in the past month have been around 226.16 EUR, which is higher than the city's average. Published rates can begin at 300 EUR per night. Guests should also factor in additional mandatory charges, including a city tax of €5.00 per person per night (for up to 14 nights, exempting children under 14) and a service fee of €4.50 per person per night. A refundable damage deposit of €300 is also required upon arrival.

8. Common Complaints

While feedback is largely positive, a few minor points are occasionally mentioned:

  • The building does not have elevators, which could be a consideration for guests with mobility issues.
  • Rooms with balconies overlooking busy streets, such as the Galleria, may experience some noise, though guests generally report that the windows are effective in blocking it out when closed.
  • The wellness offerings, while appreciated, are noted as "just short of what you'd consider a full-service spa" for a small hotel.
  • The absence of a full-service restaurant on-site means guests rely on the many dining options in the surrounding area.

I would strongly caution anyone considering staying at this hotel. For the two night stay, we only stayed one night - and that was reluctantly. TLDR: along with another guest, we were locked out of the property late at night. We checked in at 8pm local time on September 30. The hotel is in a shared building requiring guests to ring a bell out on the street for access. We were informed at the chec...

I really enjoyed my stay at Caruso Hotel. The location is absolutely perfect — central, easy to reach, and close to everything you might need. The staff were extremely friendly and professional, always ready to help with a smile. The rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable, and I especially liked the convenience of the keyless entry system with a code – simple and secure. Overall, a great ...

Very good service, but rooms are small and oddly arrayed. A good place if you want to be in the heart of Napoli at a boutique hotel.

A very nice hotel, located right on the Via Toledo central and busy street. The rooms are large, clean, comfortable, and the service is friendly. You have to take into account, that because of the location, on the main street, the area is quite noisy, throughout the day, until the late evening, and early in the morning hours. To solve this problem, you have to close the room window, that faces the...

Great central base. Really clean. A little tricky to get in after midnight, but perfect for a weekend away. Although in a bustling centre, amazingly peaceful and restful.

In response to the owner’s comment: we did not leave the hotel with a towel, and we never went to the beach. When we were accused of stealing, we were told house keeping could not locate the towel, which means staff entered our room, did not service or perform any cleaning in the room, but they rummaged around the room determine a towel was “missing.” Despite the positive reviews (which is why we ...

Response from the owner

Let me answer point by point. The sign "Do not disturb" is used when a guest is IN the room, when the guest is out our house keepers do enter to clean up the room. Hopefully you understand that your p...
