Expert Review: Beach Motel St. Peter-Ording
The Beach Motel St. Peter-Ording, a Michelin Key Selected property, offers a distinctive lifestyle motel experience directly on the North Sea coast, drawing inspiration from US East Coast beach houses.
Overall Rating & Sentiment
The general consensus for Beach Motel St. Peter-Ording is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests describing their stays as "exceptional" and "superb". The hotel boasts a high recommendation rate of 97% on HolidayCheck and an average rating of 8.6 from families with older children on Agoda. Guests frequently express their desire to return, highlighting a strong sense of satisfaction and a welcoming atmosphere.
Key Highlights
Guests consistently praise several aspects of the Beach Motel. Its prime location directly adjacent to the beach entrance and the 12 km long beach is a major draw. The hotel's unique design, reflecting an American seaside motel aesthetic, is also a significant highlight. Dog-friendliness is a standout feature, with the hotel providing amenities like food and water bowls and treats for canine companions. The excellent service and friendly staff receive frequent accolades, as does the appealing spa area with saunas and wellness programs. The presence of surf-themed decor and information further enhances the beach lifestyle ambiance.
Room Quality
The rooms and suites at Beach Motel St. Peter-Ording are described as spotless, comfortable, and well-designed, featuring a bright and airy aesthetic with colors reminiscent of sunbleached coastal elements. Many are spacious, modern, and cozy, equipped with comfortable beds and coffee machines. A variety of rooms, including doubles, suites, and family rooms, offer selections with dune and sea views, and some include balconies. However, some guests have noted that even larger room categories can feel a bit small for two people. There have also been mentions of a lack of basic amenities such as drinking water, glasses, and a fridge in the rooms, leading some to compare them to a hostel in terms of provisions.
Dining Experience
The hotel offers a commendable dining experience with two primary restaurants: "dii:ke" and "o.n.o's kitchen". Dii:ke is celebrated for its delicious stone-oven pizzas, a variety of tapas, refined vegetarian and vegan dishes, and fresh salads, all served in a relaxed beach atmosphere. Guests can also enjoy breakfast on its sun terrace. O.n.o's kitchen provides American-inspired cuisine. The breakfast buffet, available from 7:00 to 12:00, is consistently highlighted as amazing, extensive, and delicious, often exceeding guest expectations. Additionally, Kolfhamm Restaurant specializes in seafood, and Bistro Fish & Chips offers quick bites. While the breakfast selection is praised, some guests find it a bit expensive at approximately 23 Euro per person.
Service & Staff
The service and staff at Beach Motel St. Peter-Ording receive overwhelmingly positive feedback. Guests frequently describe the team as very friendly, nice, excellent, helpful, kind, and accommodating. Many reviewers emphasize feeling genuinely welcomed and appreciate the attentive and cheerful demeanor of the staff, contributing significantly to a pleasant stay.
Location & Accessibility
The Beach Motel boasts an excellent location in Sankt Peter-Ording, situated directly behind the dike and on the access road to the expansive 12 km long beach. This proximity allows for easy and quick walking access to the North Sea, making it ideal for beach enthusiasts and surfers alike. The area is renowned as a "surfer's paradise". The hotel also offers convenient on-site parking.
Value & Pricing
The Beach Motel St. Peter-Ording is generally considered to offer good value, with an average room price of $159, which is notably lower than the average $212 for hotels in Sankt Peter-Ording. However, opinions on value can vary. Some guests have expressed that the price paid (e.g., 220 Euro per night) felt high given certain perceived shortcomings like infrequent room cleaning and the absence of basic in-room amenities such as a fridge or drinking water. The breakfast, while highly rated, is also noted as being relatively expensive. The hotel does offer various packages, such as "Sweet Sunday" starting from 45€, "Romantic Moments" from 140€, and "Week @ the Beach" from 255€.
Common Complaints
Despite the overall positive sentiment, some recurring criticisms have been noted:
- Dogs in Dining Areas: The hotel's strong dog-friendly policy, while appreciated by many, has led to complaints from guests with allergies who found the large number of dogs in restaurants problematic and preventing them from dining at the hotel.
- Infrequent Room Cleaning: Some guests were surprised and dissatisfied with the policy of cleaning rooms only every second day, reportedly for environmental reasons, and found the 20 Euro charge for daily cleaning excessive given the room rates.
- Lack of In-Room Amenities: A few guests highlighted the absence of drinking water, glasses, and a mini-fridge in their rooms, suggesting a more basic "hostel-like" provision at a higher price point.
- Room Size: Even some of the larger room categories were found to be a bit cramped for two people.
- Informal Address: A minor point of contention for some was being addressed informally (using "Du" instead of "Sie") without being asked.
- Cold Bathrooms: There have been isolated complaints about bathrooms remaining cold despite the heating being on.

Loudest hotel ever. Don’t go here if you want a quiet stay. Walls are thin as paper. This place will also fight to take down every bad but honest review.

The loft room with a balcony was great with a bit more space to sit and relax for the in between times when not at the beach or out for breakfast or dinner. The balcony gave a great view of the beach and the bed was very comfortable. They sauna and spa area are perfect for when it's a bit cool. Best location for my favourite beach in Germany!

We loved staying here in April, 2017! The rooms were cozy and the buffet breakfast was great! They had a bike rental shop close to the hotel, a restaurant, a bar and the beach was a walkable distance away. We would stay here again in the future.

Loved this place. So close to the beach and the dunes. Very dog friendly. The rooms were gorgeous and very clean. Breakfast is optional but worth the money. There were also vegan options. The hotel restaurant serves mostly American food and very limited vegan options. Thats a little sad. Besides that everything is great. The spa has two saunas some rooms to relax. A little outdoor area with a jacu...

Nice view, reasonably short walk to the beach and the BREAKFAST! seriously, among top three I have experienced g...
