Anticavilla Hotel, Cuernavaca: A Michelin One-Key Oasis of Serenity and Style
Anticavilla Hotel in Cuernavaca, a distinguished Michelin One-Key property, consistently receives high praise for its blend of Italian-inspired design, lush tropical gardens, and exceptional service, making it a standout luxury escape in the "City of Eternal Spring."
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The general consensus for Anticavilla Hotel is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently rating it as "excellent" and "wonderful." Review scores are consistently high across various aspects, including staff (9.2), comfort (9.0), cleanliness (8.8), and location (8.8). The sentiment is one of a serene, romantic, and luxurious retreat, often described as a beautiful hacienda-like resort.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently rave about the hotel's stunning tropical grounds and expansive heated swimming pool, which provide a tranquil oasis. The impeccable customer service and the hotel's top-notch restaurant and bar are also frequently highlighted. The unique design, inspired by 20th-century Italian Modernist artists, creates an elegant and artistic ambiance throughout the property. The on-site Maikiki Spa, offering a range of treatments, adds to the luxurious amenities.
3. Room Quality
Anticavilla Hotel features 16 unique suites, each with its own theme and inspired by a different Italian artist. Guests describe the rooms as modern, spacious, very clean, and comfortable. Standard amenities include air conditioning, free WiFi, an iPod dock, an LCD TV with DVD player, and hydromassage showers. Bathrooms are equipped with luxurious Bvlgari amenities. Some suites boast private patios or terraces, with the Presidential Suite even offering a secluded terrace with an open fire pit and Jacuzzi. A minor recurring point is the presence of steps leading up to the bathroom in some rooms, which a few guests noted could be challenging at night.
4. Dining Experience
The hotel's Verdesalvia restaurant is a significant draw, renowned for its fine Italian and Mediterranean cuisine, as well as traditional Mexican dishes. Guests consistently praise the quality and flavor of the food, including the delicious breakfast options and evening meals. The restaurant, an open-air modernist masterpiece, overlooks the lush gardens and offers a vine-garlanded courtyard for dining. Notably, all pasta and bread are made in-house, reflecting a dedication to authentic Italian cuisine. The stylish bar, opening onto a terrace and garden, serves excellent cocktails and light snacks. While the food is highly acclaimed, one review mentioned that restaurant service could be "extremely slow" at times.
5. Service & Staff
The service at Anticavilla Hotel is consistently described as "excellent," "attentive," "helpful," "kind," and "incredible." Guests frequently highlight the staff's diligence in accommodating needs, remembering names, and promptly resolving any issues. From the reception to the servers and housekeepers, the personnel contribute significantly to the positive guest experience.
6. Location & Accessibility
Anticavilla Hotel is situated in Cuernavaca, known as the "City of Eternal Spring," and is approximately an hour's drive from Mexico City. It offers a quiet location, yet remains accessible to local attractions. The Teopanzolco Aztec Ruins are just under 2000 feet away, and the Cuernavaca Cathedral and historic city center are about 1.2 miles from the hotel. Free parking is available on-site. The property has also incorporated accessibility features, including two ground-floor suites designed for guests with limited mobility and wheelchair-accessible toilets in the restaurant.
7. Value & Pricing
While guests acknowledge that Anticavilla Hotel can be "pricier for Cuernavaca," many agree it is a "great place to stay at" and "worth the cost" for the experience it offers. Rooms can be found for as low as $250 a night. It's important to note that rates typically exclude breakfast, and an additional 5% service fee is applied.
8. Common Complaints
Recurring criticisms are few but include occasional slow service at the restaurant and the presence of steps to the bathroom in some rooms, which some guests found inconvenient, particularly at night. One guest also mentioned a non-functional jacuzzi massager. Additionally, some feedback suggests that Cuernavaca itself may not always meet tourist expectations, a point external to the hotel's direct performance. The hotel maintains an adults-only policy (over 18, though some sources mention over 12 for children in general areas and specific age restrictions for the spa/pool).

Kinda very disappointed about the Spa services. I expected good expertise in exchange for such high costs. The location looks like it needs some updates and some love. As for the rooms the tv service has bad reception and rooms need some good detailed oriented supervision. The restaurant is great, the best of this place.

A HOME AWAY FROM HOME. Gorgeous little hotel, boutique hotel. Everyone from the valet, to reception, to the pool area...everyone makes you feel so welcome, you don't want to leave. The room was very modern, comfortable, nice to be inside. Very well kept grounds and rooms. The service at the pool area was superb. The pool a bit small, but for few rooms, nothing bigger is really needed. Food was...

I stayed one week ago since my last time here and I was really disappointed!! They charge you for everything literally if you ask for an extra bottle of water in your room or a soap, or anything!! Not even in a cheap hotel they do that... The internet does not work correctly. They do not put enough towels as supposed. Its a $450 dollar room per night but is totally not worth it. They treat you lik...
