It includes an indoor swimming pool, various saunas (steam, hot, clothed, outdoor textile sauna), a whirlpool, relaxation rooms (including a nude relaxation area), and a beautiful garden with sunbathing areas. Snacks and water are often available in the spa.
- Gourmet Cuisine: The hotel lives up to its "Gourmet" name, with food consistently described as incredible, delicious, and beyond expectations. The commitment to healthy, creative cuisine using regional and seasonal ingredients, along with options for various dietary needs (gluten-free, vegan, allergen-friendly), is highly appreciated.
- Exceptional Service & Friendly Staff: Many guests commend the staff for being very friendly, attentive, cordial, efficient, and genuinely welcoming, making them feel at home.
- Design & Ambiance: The hotel offers a pleasant atmosphere, blending rustic Black Forest charm with modern, stylish furnishings. The property is noted for being larger than it appears.
3. Room Quality
The rooms and suites at ADLER HÄUSERN are generally described as clean, comfortable, and elegantly furnished, with many offering a balcony or terrace. Guests appreciate comfortable beds. While some rooms are noted for their modern design, others maintain a more traditional furnishing style. Room sizes vary, with options from 18 to 70 m², and some suites feature Kingsize beds, freestanding bathtubs, and espresso machines. Air conditioning is available in rooms, which is a plus during warmer months.
However, some minor criticisms have been noted:
- Some rooms are described as potentially warm in summer.
- A few guests have experienced issues with soundproofing from neighboring rooms or the hallway.
- Some older reviews mention tiny shower cabins or balconies lacking privacy.
- The minibar might be empty or a fridge not capable of keeping items cold.
4. Dining Experience
The dining experience is a significant highlight, consistently receiving exceptional reviews.
- Breakfast: The breakfast buffet is frequently praised for its plentiful, incredible variety, and high quality, with options catering to various dietary requirements including allergen-friendly choices. Freshly brewed Fairtrade coffee, fragrant rolls, regional products, and healthy organic options are typically available.
- Dinner: The evening meals, often part of a gourmet half-board or 3/4 board option, are described as delicious, exquisite, and beyond expectations. The cuisine focuses on light menus with a high vegetable content, offering choices between meat, fish, and vegetarian main courses, with the rest of the gourmet half-board often being vegetarian for health benefits. Special attention is given to sustainability and regional ingredients.
- Afternoon Snack: The 3/4 board ("Adler Verwöhnpension") includes an afternoon snack buffet in the lobby bar, featuring soup, salad, and sweets.
- Restaurant Quality: The restaurant is highly regarded and lives up to the "gourmet" name. While generally excellent, a few isolated comments mention some dinners lacking seasoning or dry fish. Some guests also felt the dining service could sometimes be rushed, giving the impression of pre-prepared food, or wished for more variety in certain aspects like cheese selection at breakfast.
5. Service & Staff
The staff at ADLER HÄUSERN are widely commended for their exceptional hospitality. Guests describe them as very friendly, accommodating, kind, attentive, cordial, and efficient. Many reviewers highlight feeling genuinely welcome and at home due to the warm ambiance and dedicated service. The hotel is a family-run business that has been welcoming guests since 1850, which contributes to a personal touch.
However, there have been very rare instances of negative feedback, including one mention of an unfriendly and rude receptionist and a stressed waiter on one evening.
6. Location & Accessibility
The hotel is peacefully located in Häusern, a health resort in the heart of the Southern Black Forest Nature Park.
- Nature & Activities: The surrounding countryside is ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, and skiing, with trails accessible directly from the hotel. Lake Schluchsee is approximately 8 km (5 miles) away, offering water activities. Other popular destinations like St. Blasien, Höchenschwand, and Titisee are also nearby.
- Accessibility: The hotel is about 60 km from major cities like Zurich, Basel, and Freiburg. A bus stop is in the immediate vicinity.
- Neighborhood: Häusern offers a village atmosphere with fresh air. Some rooms might face the main street, which could be a concern for noise-sensitive guests.
7. Value & Pricing
While specific price ranges vary by room type and season, the ADLER HÄUSERN is generally considered a higher-end property, consistent with its Michelin Key selection and extensive spa and gourmet offerings. On Booking.com, its "Value for money" score is typically around 8.1-8.2. Some guests acknowledge that the hotel can be expensive but often deem it worthwhile for the quality of the experience, particularly for the excellent facilities and food. However, a few guests have felt it was "a little on the expensive side" or "not quite worth the price" for shorter stays or if certain amenities (like a stocked minibar) were expected. Parking might incur an extra charge, though this isn't always clearly indicated and free street parking may be available.
8. Common Complaints
While overall complaints are minimal given the high ratings, some recurring issues or criticisms include:
- Noise: Some guests have reported noise from the main street (if their room faces it) or from other rooms and hallways due to less-than-perfect soundproofing.
- Hidden Costs/Missing Amenities: Complaints have occasionally arisen regarding unexpected charges for parking, a €5 fee for disposable slippers in the spa, or an empty minibar.
- Room Specifics: Individual room experiences can vary, with some mentioning small shower cabins, oddly sloped balconies, or a lack of privacy on balconies.
- Dining Service Pace: A few guests have found the dinner service to be somewhat rushed, impacting their ability to fully relax and enjoy the meal.
- Limited Children's Facilities (Winter): The hotel acknowledges it's more of a boutique spa hotel without extensive infrastructure for children, and limits short stays with children under 14 in winter months to ensure peace for all guests. They do, however, have scheduled children's swimming times in the indoor pool from 10 am to 3 pm.
In conclusion, ADLER HÄUSERN Gourmet & Spa Hotel offers a highly recommended luxury experience, particularly for those seeking a tranquil spa retreat with outstanding culinary offerings in the scenic Black Forest. The minor criticisms are generally outweighed by the consistently positive feedback on its key strengths.

A very nice experience. Hotel room was very comfortable and the culinary experience was very good. A constructive comment would be to make the SPA prices more competitive and maintain regular refurbishment of rooms.

Wonderful place for a relaxing, energetic and delicious stay for several days: great wellness area, beautiful surroundings for hikes or walks in nature and super chef (exquisite gourmet cuisine—and then with local and bioproducts). Also very low on the snob index, always a risk for me at luxurious hotels; here helped by the very friendly and even humorous staff.
