Expert Review: Wiesergut

Wiesergut in Hinterglemm, Austria, stands out as an exceptional Michelin Key Selected property, consistently praised for its unique blend of modern Alpine design, genuine hospitality, and a serene natural setting.

Overall Rating & Sentiment

Wiesergut consistently garners "exceptional" ratings from guests, with scores as high as 9.8 out of 10 on platforms like Booking.com. Reviewers frequently use terms like "perfection from A-Z," "oasis," "wondrous retreat," and "unforgettable getaway" to describe their stays. The overarching sentiment is one of deep relaxation, indulgence, and a feeling of being at home in a luxurious, yet unpretentious, environment.

Key Highlights

Guests consistently laud several aspects of Wiesergut:

  • Design & Architecture: The hotel's "modern Alpine style" seamlessly blends wood, stone, glass, and steel to create spacious, light-filled, and minimalist interiors that connect with the surrounding nature. The chic design, by architects Monika Gogl and interior designers Isabel Hamm, Petra Lindenbauer, and Andreas Reichlin, is often highlighted as a major draw.
  • Spa & Wellness: The extensive spa area, including an indoor pool, an outdoor infinity pool with mountain views, a sauna, steam bath, fitness room, and various treatments, is a significant highlight for relaxation and rejuvenation.
  • Dining Experience: The focus on local, organic, and often self-produced ingredients from the hotel's own farm is a recurring theme of praise.
  • Service & Staff: The attentive, friendly, and genuinely hospitable staff and owners are frequently mentioned as contributing significantly to the positive guest experience.
  • Location: Its prime position, offering direct access to ski slopes in winter and hiking/biking trails in summer, is a major advantage for active guests.

Room Quality

The rooms, primarily suites, are described as "spacious and luxurious," featuring a modern Alpine aesthetic with natural materials like wood, stone, and linen. Each suite boasts a balcony or terrace with breathtaking mountain views, enhancing the connection to the picturesque surroundings. Amenities include flat-screen TVs, coffee makers, and often fireplaces or freestanding tubs. Guests appreciate the "light, air and nature" that fills these spaces, along with custom-made furniture and monochrome earthy palettes. Specific room types mentioned include Standard, Superior, Deluxe, Executive, Suite with Sauna, and Three-Bedroom Suites, with newer additions like BergLoft, BergSuite, and BergGym offering enhanced privacy and luxury.

Dining Experience

The dining at Wiesergut is consistently lauded as a highlight, emphasizing fresh, organic, and regional Austrian cuisine. Many products, such as beef, bacon, milk, and eggs, come directly from the family-owned farm, and fruits and herbs are sourced from the hotel garden. Breakfast is an exceptional à la carte affair, with guests praising the variety and quality, including made-to-order eggs, homemade jams, local cheeses, daily smoothie flavors, and freshly baked sourdough bread. Dinner offers a creative four-course menu with options for classics and vegetarian dishes. The culinary experience is described as a "pure delectation" and a testament to "Austrian Slow Food".

Service & Staff

The service and staff at Wiesergut receive overwhelming praise for their "exceptional" quality, "genuine hospitality," and attentiveness. Guests report being greeted warmly, with thoughtful touches like valet parking, luggage assistance, hot towels, and herbal tea upon arrival. The family-run nature of the hotel contributes to a feeling of being "secure and at home". The staff's commitment to detail and creating a personalized experience is frequently highlighted.

Location & Accessibility

Wiesergut is ideally situated in Hinterglemm, just a short walk from the Zwölferkogel Cable Car. This provides immediate access to the Skicircus Saalbach-Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn, making it a ski-in/ski-out property in winter. In warmer months, hiking and mountain bike trails start directly outside the hotel. Guests appreciate the "quiet and more remote" setting of Hinterglemm compared to Saalbach. The area is approximately an hour and a half drive from Salzburg.

Value & Pricing

While Wiesergut is positioned as a luxury hotel, guests often deem it "worth the cost" due to the comprehensive high-quality experience it offers. Approximate rates for a 1-night stay for two adults can start from around $789.33 USD, though prices are subject to change. The hotel also offers free parking and free Wi-Fi. Pets are allowed, though charges may apply (e.g., EUR 50 per pet, per night). Children's policies vary by age, with some staying free and others incurring per-person, per-night fees.

Common Complaints

While overall reviews are overwhelmingly positive, limited recurring criticisms include a past observation that the greenery surrounding some glass villas was not yet tall enough to provide full privacy. This is a minor point in the context of the otherwise exceptional guest feedback. The Michelin Guide selection currently notes no verified stays yet for a quality score on their 20-point scale.

Don't hesitate to book! We have stayed at many top hotels across Europe and I have to say this hotel became one of our top favorites! It was really surprising and pleasant how Wiesergut managed to maintain the family run, cozy, authentic charm and pair it with top quality luxury both in service, aesthetic, and functionality! We stayed in room 5, the hideaway suite and it was breathtaking. The saun...

Great stay here at Wiesergut The location is perfect - you are right beside the cable car station. The rooms are beautiful and all of the staff here is extremly friendly and attentive. If you want to lend some ski-gear you will get picked up right infront of the hotel and brought back again. And the food is just plenty and yummie. The spa is small but you got everything that you need to relax ;) H...

Fantastic place. One of the rare places I have been to where every part of the guest’s experience is thought through. Unapologetic for being a beautiful place that is located in a farm and serves local food products. Loved it and will go again.

We loved our stay in the suites, where we had the fireplace going almost every evening, enjoying ourselves by relaxing in the spa area or in our own hot tub. The atmosphere oozes retained luxe and hints for the mountains as it should. The location is perfect as the ski lift is closeby. This also means that when lounging in the suite people could still look in if they wanted to, perhaps this is som...
