Expert Review: Trademark Hotel
The Trademark Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya, a Michelin Key Selected property, generally receives positive feedback from guests, often highlighted for its prime location and exceptional service. With an overall sentiment ranging from "Very Good" to "Excellent" across major booking platforms (e.g., Booking.com 8.0/10, Trip.com 8.5/10, Expedia and Hotels.com 9.0/10, and TripAdvisor 4.5/5), it is recognized for its modern appeal and a dedicated staff.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The Trademark Hotel enjoys a largely positive reputation, consistently earning "Very good" to "Exceptional" ratings. Guests frequently commend its excellent location, cleanliness, pleasant breakfast, and friendly service. However, recurring criticisms often point towards room size, specific bathroom layouts, and occasional noise disturbances.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently rave about several aspects that make the Trademark Hotel stand out:
- Service & Staff: The staff is frequently described as incredibly friendly, charming, helpful, accommodating, and exceptional, with many guests noting their visits were made special by the attentive personnel.
- Location: Its strategic placement, anchoring the upmarket Village Market shopping mall, is a significant draw. This provides guests with immediate access to a wide array of shopping and dining options. It's also conveniently central for exploring Nairobi and close to key institutions like the UN Headquarters and the US Embassy.
- Design: The hotel features a modern, clean, and nicely designed contemporary structure. Large windows are a notable design element, maximizing natural light and offering views of the Nairobi scene.
- Amenities: The hotel boasts a beautiful rooftop pool, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and a full-service spa offering reflexology treatments. Complimentary Wi-Fi, bottled water, coffee/tea makers, and free bicycle rentals are also appreciated.
3. Room Quality
The rooms at Trademark Hotel are generally described as modern, clean, nicely designed, and comfortable, featuring big and comfy beds. Each room is equipped with a workstation, air conditioning, complimentary Wi-Fi, blackout curtains, and a large flat-screen TV with international channels, catering well to business travelers. However, some guests have found the rooms to be a bit small. A common point of contention is the bathroom layout, with complaints about open showers lacking doors or having curtains that do not fully close, which can lead to a lack of privacy and cold air.
4. Dining Experience
The hotel's dining options receive high praise. The breakfast buffet is often described as superb, very good, and featuring a wide and abundant selection, including vegetarian options (available for a surcharge of USD 25 for adults). The Harvest Restaurant offers an international menu with an open grill brasserie concept, emphasizing farm-fresh ingredients. Other dining choices include Hero for Japanese cuisine and Pasta Republic for Italian dishes, all noted for their quality food and service.
5. Service & Staff
The service and staff at Trademark Hotel are consistently highlighted as a major strength. Guests frequently use words like "incredibly friendly," "charming," "helpful," "accommodating," "exceptional," "amazing," and "professional" to describe their interactions. Many experiences cite staff going above and beyond, making stays memorable, and offering outstanding room service and cleaning.
6. Location & Accessibility
The Trademark Hotel is strategically located in Gigiri, Nairobi's embassy district, directly connected to the upscale Village Market. This offers unparalleled convenience for shopping, dining, and entertainment. It's also central to various Nairobi attractions, approximately 1640 feet (500m) from the US Embassy and UN Headquarters, and near Karura Forest. For transportation, the hotel is about 16 miles (26 km) from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and 12 miles (15 km) from Wilson Airport. An airport shuttle service is available, albeit for a fee, and free self-parking is provided.
7. Value & Pricing
Guest opinions on value and pricing are mixed. While some appreciate the quality of the facilities and service, others feel the hotel is on the pricier side, with "Value for Price" ratings sometimes lower than other aspects (e.g., Kayak users rated it 2.0/10, Booking.com users 7.6/10). Room rates start from around $122, but prices can fluctuate significantly, with cheaper deals typically found in September and April, and higher rates on weekends.
8. Common Complaints
While generally well-regarded, the Trademark Hotel does receive some recurring criticisms:
- Room Size: Some guests have expressed that the rooms feel a bit small.
- Bathroom Design: The open shower concept, often lacking a door or sufficient curtains, is a frequent complaint, cited for compromising privacy and leading to cooler temperatures in the shower area.
- Noise: Guests have reported noise from the adjacent Village Market mall, construction in the area, or other guests, which can occasionally disrupt their stay.
- Minor Issues: Isolated reports include minor inconsistencies in food quality, issues with air conditioning controls, non-functioning in-room phones, and delays during checkout.

My stay at Trademark was amazing. It's located in the best Nairobi's shopping mall so you have everything on the palm of your hand. There is beautiful rooftop pool and sitting area where you can have drinks or snacks. The rooms are clean but a bit small. I strongly recommend.

Great hotel! Food and facilities are amazing. It provides great service, and the view from the pool is very nice. However, the shower is partially incorporated within the room, loosing privacy and comfortability. This might not be expected on a hotel under its current price range. At the top floors, it has an amazing bar rated #69 of World’s 50 Best Bars

Everything is good, and the breakfast is excellent. Being integrated with the mall is a great advantage. What bothers me a little is the bathroom design the toilet has no jet shower, and the bath area has no door. Maybe it’s just because I’m not used to it, but it makes me feel uncomfortable. Oh ya in breakfast you will offered a delicious coffe, I think its the best coffee I drink since in Kenya...
