The personalized and attentive service is a recurring highlight, with staff often going "above and beyond" to ensure a memorable stay. The dining experience, particularly the fresh seafood, is also a major draw.

3. Room Quality

The Plettenberg features 37 individually decorated guest rooms and two family-style villas, each designed with elegance and comfort in mind. Rooms are described as bright and airy, incorporating soft blue and aqua tones that reflect the marine environment, often complemented by floor-to-ceiling windows to maximize the stunning views. Premier Suites also offer separate lounges and private step-out balconies.

4. Dining Experience

The hotel's main restaurant, Amelia's at The Plettenberg (formerly known as SeaFood at The Plettenberg), is celebrated for its progressive South African cuisine with a strong emphasis on sustainable, fresh ocean bounty, drawing inspiration from the rich marine life of Plettenberg Bay. It serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with both indoor seating and an outdoor terrace that offers mesmerizing ocean views, particularly at sunset. Breakfast is highly rated by guests, offering both continental and full English/Irish options. Rates typically include South African VAT and a full English breakfast, with an additional tourism levy per room per night.

8. Common Complaints

While overwhelmingly positive, some minor criticisms have been noted by guests. These include mentions of "old 'tired' windows" in some areas, and one instance of a bed feeling "a bit hollow". Some guests have also pointed to potential inconsistencies in room cleanliness, suggesting that housekeeping attention to detail could be improved in certain aspects. Additionally, a single review mentioned staff being "too pushy" regarding the evening restaurant, though this appears to be an isolated comment against a backdrop of overwhelmingly positive service feedback.

We stayed at The Plettenberg on August 1 and absolutely loved our time there. We booked the Premier Suite and the Partial Sea View Suite—two beautiful corner rooms right next to each other—which ended up being the perfect setup for our family of five. The hotel added an extra bed for our third child, and it worked out perfectly. Both rooms were stocked full of drinks and snacks, and the views of t...

The hotel is exceptional. The location is perfect. It truly can’t be described in words. The ultimate luxury. The waiters, porters, housekeepers, pool staff were all phenomenal. We had strange experiences with a receptionist by the name of Sima. Even where she could assist, for example with retrieving my ice pack from my room or giving us 15 extra minutes to check out, she was just unwilling to ...

Truly one of the most stunning hotels we have stayed at. Attention to detail was amazing. Our room and room view blew us away! As well as the details to the interiors of the entire hotel and the room. The service was also exceptional. I can see why it was voted the #1 hotel in South Africa. So happy to have enjoyed our honeymoon here.

A top hotel in a perfect position, our view and room was amazing. So spacious and very clean. Staff were wonderful and helpful during our stay. We travelled in October so it was still a little cool especially in the evening so you can imagine my surprise to hop into bed and find a hot water bottle in there waiting for me!! The best surprise ever!!

Fabulous location, well appointed rooms and the restaurant is top notch. Friendly service. Some aspects need attention - e.g the windows in our room rattled - the hotel should look at that.

We recently stayed here to celebrate my partner's birthday. Lovely staff, excellent location, good food, can't fault it. Letitia at the travel desk helped make my partner's birthday very special by organising a boat trip and picnic for us.
