Expert Review: The Louie, A Davenport Hotel, Autograph Collection

The Louie, A Davenport Hotel, Autograph Collection: A Jewel in Spokane's Crown (Michelin Key Selected)

The Louie, A Davenport Hotel, Autograph Collection, a Michelin Key Selected property in Spokane, generally garners highly positive reviews, celebrated for its blend of historic elegance and modern luxury. As a reimagining of the former Davenport Lusso, the hotel successfully pays homage to its namesake, Louis Davenport, offering a refined and intimate experience.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The overall sentiment for The Louie is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently describing their stays as wonderful, excellent, and a "great escape." Review scores for cleanliness, comfort, and location are consistently high, often in the 9s out of 10. Guests appreciate the serene elegance and luxurious boutique feel of the hotel, often highlighting it as a more discreet alternative to its grander sibling, The Historic Davenport Hotel, across the street.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently praise several aspects of The Louie:

  • Design & Ambiance: The hotel's design, inspired by Louis Davenport's early 20th-century abode, evokes warmth and quiet elegance with a color palette of peach, burgundy, olive green, gold, and lavender. It boasts an "art gallery-meets-library" vibe, featuring one-of-a-kind antiques, botanical books, pressed flowers, and vintage cooking accessories. The spacious lobby and artful furnishings contribute to a "great vibe all around."
  • Service: Exclusive butler service is a unique offering, designed for discerning travelers. Many guests laud the friendly, helpful, and attentive staff, with some noting they felt like the "most important person in the room."
  • Location: Its prime downtown location is a major draw, placing guests within easy walking distance of numerous attractions, restaurants, entertainment venues like the Bing Crosby Theater and Knitting Factory, and shopping, including a mall with Nordstrom. Riverfront Park and the Spokane Convention Center are also just a short walk away.
  • Amenities: Guests appreciate the availability of amenities from the larger Davenport Hotel across the street, including multiple bars, restaurants, a full-service spa, and a 24-hour fitness center. The Louie itself offers a daily breakfast offering, an evening bar cart, and in-room dining. Free WiFi is also a popular amenity.

3. Room Quality

The 48 single-king rooms and suites at The Louie are consistently described as spacious, elegant, and beautifully appointed.

  • Comfort: The "signature Davenport bed" and outstanding mattress and linens are frequently highlighted for their comfort, guaranteeing a restful night's sleep. Rooms often feature plush king beds and hypoallergenic bedding is available upon request.
  • Design: Rooms are curated with elegant materials, big windows, and a sleek, neutral-toned palette that feels fresh and modern while honoring the historical inspiration. Guests also note the stylish decor, high ceilings, and floor-to-ceiling windows offering city views.
  • Features: Standard amenities include air conditioning, private marble-lined bathrooms with bathtubs or showers, free toiletries, flat-screen TVs with premium channels, work desks, seating areas, and irons. Some rooms also feature cozy fireplaces. Complimentary bubbly upon arrival has been a pleasant surprise for some guests.

4. Dining Experience

While The Louie itself offers a daily breakfast and an evening bar cart, guests have convenient access to a wider array of dining options across the street at the sister property, The Davenport Hotel.

  • On-site: The Louie has an American restaurant, Peacock Lounge, which offers vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options for lunch and dinner. There is also a coffee shop/cafe.
  • Davenport Hotel access: Guests can enjoy renowned restaurants at The Davenport Hotel, including the Palm Court Grill (known for Northwest-inspired dishes and the Crab Louie Salad), the Peacock Room Lounge (for cocktails under a stained-glass ceiling), the Davenport Hotel Lobby Bar, and the Emporium. This provides a diverse selection from casual bites to elegant dining experiences.

5. Service & Staff

The service at The Louie is a major highlight, consistently receiving high praise.

  • Hospitality: Staff are frequently described as friendly, helpful, attentive, and wonderful. Guests report feeling well taken care of and appreciated.
  • Personal Touches: Examples of exceptional service include staff bringing complimentary champagne to rooms for special occasions and providing forgotten items like toothbrushes. The exclusive butler service adds a layer of bespoke luxury.

6. Location & Accessibility

The Louie's downtown Spokane location is a significant advantage.

  • Neighborhood: It's situated in a vibrant riverside district, close to green space around Spokane Falls and trendy shopping and dining.
  • Attractions: Guests can easily walk to major attractions such as the Spokane Convention Center, Riverfront Park, the Bing Crosby Theater, Knitting Factory, and shopping areas. The hotel is also close to the Spokane Arena and Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox.
  • Transport: Spokane International Airport (GEG) is approximately 5.6 to 7.3 miles away, about a 9-12 minute drive. Public transportation is also accessible. Valet parking and self-parking are available on-site, though charges apply. Electric vehicle charging is also offered. The hotel is ADA accessible with features like wheelchair-accessible paths, parking, and registration.

7. Value & Pricing

The Louie is considered a luxury boutique hotel, and its pricing reflects this. Nightly rates can range from approximately $197 to $462, with an average price per room around $186. While some reviews indicate "value for money" scores slightly lower than other categories (e.g., 7.7-7.9 out of 10), many guests feel the experience, particularly the exceptional service and luxurious accommodations, justifies the cost, seeing it as a worthwhile "splurge" or "incredible" stay.

8. Common Complaints

While largely positive, some recurring issues or criticisms have been noted:

  • Housekeeping: A few guests have reported a perceived lack of cleaning staff or issues with room cleaning during longer stays, sometimes needing to request fresh towels or services multiple times.
  • Dining Experience at specific times: One guest reported a less-than-ideal restaurant experience, citing issues with a waiter's perfume, unavailable prime rib at 7 PM, and a missed acknowledgment of a special occasion despite prior notification.
  • Room Availability Issues: In one instance, a guest who booked a Junior Suite was informed upon arrival that it was unavailable due to "maintenance issues."
  • Parking Costs: The cost for self-parking (around $30.55 per night) and covered valet parking (around $38.19 per day) is noted, which some guests might consider high.
  • Neighborhood perception: One review mentions the downtown area can be perceived as "seedy" with homeless individuals and cannabis smell, though the reviewer also states it's not the hotel's fault and comparable to other major cities.

I’m not sure what others experienced, but this property is truly exceptional. The staff delivers top‑tier customer service, and the rooms are impeccably maintained. As part of the Autograph Collection, it’s far from a standard “four walls and a bed” hotel—its historic charm and unique character really stand out. As a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium member, I appreciate staying somewhere that doesn’t feel...

I recently visited The Louie in Spokane, Washington, and I’ll be honest, on my first night, I was disappointed by the lack of service. It was the kind of experience that normally would have led me to leave a negative review and choose a different hotel next time. Then, on my second night, I met Malachi and everything changed. From the moment he stepped in, his attention to detail, genuine thoughtf...

I just read the last 3 reviews that were all 1 star and I am confused at what was experienced. I have being staying at the Historic for 4 years monthly and when the Lusso remodeled to the Louie I went over to experience the new boutique style and I am a faithful guest! Hotel is pretty good with only few issues. The good - friendly staff, clean, large rooms, and a decent location. Staff are super friendly and helpful. From the moment I checked in to when I checked out, they would also say hi as I passed by and were willing to give directions/help when needed. The hotel is also nicely decorated. The hotel also provides a free coffee and pastry daily across the...

We stayed at The Louie for our 10 year anniversary during the holidays. The location is great and makes downtown very walkable to get anywhere, as well as next to the original Davenport to experience all of the Christmas charm. Malachi at the front desk was very welcoming and helpful. When we returned from dinner our first night he brought champagne up to our room in honor of our anniversary. The ...

As a Titanium Bonvoy member since 1999, this has unfortunately been the most disappointing and misrepresented property I’ve ever experienced within the Marriott portfolio. The Hotel Louis offers virtually no amenities. There is no true bar service—only a small pre-made drink cart that you have to specifically ask about. The location is in an extremely seedy and unsafe part of Spokane. Simply walk...
