Expert Review: The Lake Como EDITION
The Lake Como EDITION: A Modern Luxury Gem on Italy's Iconic Shores
The Lake Como EDITION in Griante Cadenabbia, a Michelin Key Selected property, has quickly established itself as a beacon of modern luxury on the serene shores of Lake Como. Transforming a historic 19th-century inn, the hotel offers a sophisticated and contemporary experience that blends seamlessly with the timeless allure of its surroundings. The general sentiment among guests is overwhelmingly positive, highlighting its exceptional service, stunning location, and refined design.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The Lake Como EDITION garners excellent reviews, consistently praised for its location, cleanliness, staff, and service. While some early "soft opening" feedback suggested minor areas for improvement, the overarching sentiment is one of high satisfaction, particularly regarding the attentive and authentic hospitality. Marriott Bonvoy customer satisfaction surveys show an average rating of 4.2 out of 5 stars, with particularly high scores for location (4.7) and service (4.6).
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently rave about several standout features:
- World-Class Service & Staff: The staff is frequently described as "world-class," "first-class," and "very attentive without feeling stuffy," going out of their way to make stays memorable and special.
- Breathtaking Location: Situated on the western shore of Lake Como in Cadenabbia, the hotel boasts "drop-dead gorgeous" views of the Bellagio promontory and surrounding mountains. It offers direct access to the scenic Lake Como Greenway trail, a private dock, and a public ferry service stop right outside, ensuring easy exploration of the lake.
- Sophisticated Design: The hotel introduces a "dose of modern luxury" to a region known for older, ornate properties. Its signature minimalism and refined contemporary design, a collaboration between EDITION, Neri&Hu, and De.Tales, blend Italian heritage with a global sensibility, featuring light-filled spaces and exquisite materials.
- Exceptional Amenities: Highlights include a dramatic floating pool directly on the lake with its own restaurant and lounge bar, a pioneering Longevity SPA offering advanced treatments, and a private dock with a hotel boat fleet for picturesque tours.
3. Room Quality
The Lake Como EDITION offers 148 elegantly appointed rooms, including 25 suites, two penthouses, and a nine-room Villa Gina. The rooms embody a modern, luxurious, and minimalist style, designed for "restorative stays." They feature European white oak floors, ivory plaster walls, and Calacatta Turquoise marble accents. Guests can expect plush Italian linens, custom furnishings, crisp white bedding, dark wood finishes, and the brand's signature faux-fur throw. Spa-like marble bathrooms are adorned with fluted glass doors, polished brass frames, and luxurious Le Labo amenities. Many rooms boast restored French balconies, offering sweeping views of Lake Como. Entry-level rooms range from 25-45 square meters, while suites are typically 49-51 square meters.
4. Dining Experience
Culinary excellence is a cornerstone of The Lake Como EDITION, with dining experiences led by the acclaimed three-Michelin-starred Italian-heritage chef Mauro Colagreco. He brings his nature-inspired philosophy to four unique concepts:
- Cetino: The hotel's signature restaurant, offering an elevated approach to contemporary gastronomy.
- Renzo: An all-day dining venue with a panoramic terrace, radiating Italian hospitality and reinterpreting classic recipes for sharing.
- The Pool: A relaxed, poolside restaurant and lounge bar on the floating dock, serving a fresh variety of seafood-centric Mediterranean dishes.
- Lobby Bar: A sophisticated yet welcoming space for coffee or aperitivi with waterfront seating.
A complimentary breakfast is a notable inclusion, a rarity for EDITION properties. Dining receives a solid rating of 4.1 out of 5 in guest surveys.
5. Service & Staff
The service at The Lake Como EDITION receives consistent high praise. Guests frequently describe the staff as "world-class" and "first-class," highlighting their attentiveness and genuine interest in making each stay memorable. Many have noted staff going "out of their way to make things special." The average rating for service and staff is an impressive 4.6 out of 5 stars.
6. Location & Accessibility
The hotel is perfectly positioned in Griante Cadenabbia, on the western shore of Lake Como, offering "excellent" and "drop dead gorgeous" views directly across to Bellagio. It's part of the picturesque Lake Como Greenway trail. Accessibility is a significant advantage, with a private dock for arrivals and the hotel's own boat fleet for lake tours and transportation. Crucially, Lake Como's public ferry service stops just outside the hotel, providing convenient access to numerous lakeside towns. The center of Griante is about a 10-minute walk away. Milano Malpensa Airport is approximately 81 km from the property.
7. Value & Pricing
As a luxury property on Lake Como, stays at The Lake Como EDITION are considered expensive. Opening month rates in September can range from $1,424 to $1,980 per night, with shoulder season (e.g., March) rates falling to around $700 per night. The hotel participates in the Marriott Bonvoy program, allowing for point redemptions. While guests appreciate the luxury, the "Value for Money" rating is typically around 3.9 out of 5 or 7.0 out of 10, indicating it's seen as a pricey but worthwhile indulgence for many.
8. Common Complaints
While generally positive, some initial feedback, particularly during "pre-opening" or "soft opening" phases, included:
- Temporary lack of certain services such as room service, spa facilities, or valet parking, which were not always communicated in advance. It's important to note that the Longevity SPA is now a key feature.
- Isolated incidents like an elevator not working consistently.
- One guest reported issues with payment, specifically the hotel not accepting American Express.
- Some Marriott Bonvoy elite members expressed disappointment over not receiving room upgrades during soft openings, attributed by the hotel to limited room availability.
- The high price point was a recurring mention, though often balanced by the perceived quality of the experience.

Visited Lake Como The Edition in October 2025, but finally got a chance to write a review. I am basically writing this review for an amazing staff Abir, who works at the swimming pool area. To be honest, like other reviewers, we did not have a pleasant experience with the front receptionist as they charged a fee of thousands dollar without informing us and it wasn't a deposit. The tension was rea...

The Edition never disappoints with its signature scent, immaculate design, and beautifully clean rooms. The restaurant was absolutely outstanding — every dish felt curated to perfection — and the bar was equally stunning (bonus points for serving my favorite olives!). The pool area was serene and cozy; we spent our morning there in robes, wrapped in blankets with tea in hand — highly recommend. It...

As a Bonvoy titanium member, this hotel is definitely the worst luxury hotel I have ever stayed at in the range 750-1000 euros (four seasons, St Regis, Ritz Carlton etc). Please trust me, I would not recommend you spending hard-earned money to stay here, unless you are happy to spend a lot of money on a mediocre hotel. Even if it was pre-opening stage, for 1000 euros a night, honestly I do expect...

From the moment I arrived at The Lake Como EDITION, I knew it was more than a hotel — it was an experience. A restored 19th-century villa where history meets modern calm, every detail feels intentional and serene. My room was a sanctuary — oak floors, marble accents, and views that make time slow down. Mornings began with sunlight on the lake; evenings ended in peaceful stillness. The floating po...

Lovely experience, the staff were wonderful, the hotel is still being completed and we were lucky enough to be some of the first guests to stay here (they just opened in September). Fatima and team were very friendly, the breakfast is amazing, the gym very well equipped, location right on the lake. Only issue is limited food options nearby, and there’s no on site parking (yet) as they are obtainin...

We had a wonderful experience today. The hotel is right across from the ferry in the beautiful area of Cadenabbia, just a 10-minute ride from Bellagio. The location is calm and relaxing, perfect for unwinding. We had a small challenge finding a taxi, but the reception team was incredibly helpful and made sure we got the assistance we needed. They treated us very kindly and made us feel well taken ...
