Guest feedback consistently praises the rooms as "gleaming," "fantastic, comfortable," "excellent, well kept, clean, smelt amazing and felt so luxurious," and simply "beautiful." Rooms typically include comfortable beds (some super king size), private bathrooms with amenities like bathrobes and underfloor heating, a work desk, flat-screen TV, coffee machine, refrigerator, and electric kettle. Thoughtful extra touches such as elderflower and mint water accompanied by lemon cakes further enhance the in-room experience.
4. Dining Experience
Dining at The Beacon is a highlight, offering two distinct and equally appealing experiences. The Garden Bar, located downstairs, presents a relaxed and comfortable ambiance with a "Scandi lodge" feel, an informal menu, and views overlooking the lakes. Upstairs, The Hearth restaurant provides a more seductive and glamorous setting, characterized by an ornate stained-glass window, a cozy fireplace, and candlelit dining.
The traditional restaurant specializes in British cuisine, with Head Chef Scott Goss and his team crafting carefully designed dishes using the finest locally sourced ingredients. The menus are inclusive, offering vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free options.
Breakfast, served daily from 8:30 am to 11 am in the Garden Bar, is highly praised, featuring a full English or Irish, champagne, warm dishes, juice, and fresh pastries. Guests have specifically highlighted the "perfect crispy bacon" and delightful breakfast experiences, sometimes enjoyed on a balcony.
Beyond breakfast, the House Menu is available Monday to Saturday, from 12 pm to 8 pm, with a fixed-price Dinner Menu served Wednesday to Saturday evenings (6 pm to 9 pm). Sundays feature a dedicated Sunday Lunch (12 pm to 4 pm) and a Sunday Supper menu (5 pm to 7 pm). The afternoon tea, with its "foodie theatre" and offerings like tomato consommé and canapés, is also a memorable experience. The cocktails are noted as "seriously good" and "London-worthy." The Beacon holds a "Good" rating for hygienic food handling and cleanliness, and a "Very good" rating for food safety management from a May 2025 inspection.

Will be back! A birthday dinner/lunch that didn’t happen. We had planned a special birthday dinner at The Beacon and were looking forward to an evening celebration. Due to water issues affecting the city, the team kindly contacted us in advance and suggested we come earlier, so we shifted our reservation to a late lunch. On arrival, any hint of inconvenience melted away. The sweeping views, even i...

However the t...

Really nice place. Feels cosy during autumn time. The views is amazing! The food is really tasty and coffee is good. Went for breakfast on Sunday and wasnt too busy before 10am. Dogs are allowed but be aware the sapce is a bit small so if others dogs are around, you might close to other tables and dogs. There are seats inside and outside. In winter it must feel nice with the fire on.
