Expert Review: SLS Baha Mar
SLS Baha Mar, located on the stunning Cable Beach in Nassau, Bahamas, is a Michelin Key Selected property known for its vibrant atmosphere and stylish design. While it aims for a luxurious and adults-focused experience, guest feedback indicates a mix of highs and lows, often leaning towards a lively, party-centric environment rather than serene luxury.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
SLS Baha Mar generally receives a good rating, with averages around 7.8 out of 10 on various booking platforms. The overarching sentiment is that it's a "gorgeous" and "amazing" resort, particularly appealing to those seeking an energetic and social vacation. It's often described as the "party hotel" within the larger Baha Mar complex, distinct from the family-friendly Grand Hyatt or the more refined Rosewood. However, some guests feel it "feels less like an exclusive resort and more like a bargain Margaritaville masquerading as luxury," especially if expecting a quiet, high-end experience.
2. Key Highlights
Guests frequently praise the hotel's trendy design, especially the mid-century modern aesthetic of the public spaces like the lobby and the lively Monkey Bar. The newly redesigned rooms are noted for their "chic, playful Bahamian vibes" with tropical art and pastel colors.
Amenities are a major draw, including exclusive access to two SLS pools (Bungalow Pool and the Privilege Pool, which hosts weekend day parties) as well as all the pools at the adjacent Grand Hyatt. Guests also have access to the Baha Bay Water Park. Other notable amenities include a full-service ESPA Spa, a 24-hour fitness center, a casino, jazz club, and the Bond nightclub. The Skybar, a rooftop lounge, offers "stellar" 360-degree views and craft cocktails. Unique offerings like flamingo yoga are also available.
3. Room Quality
The SLS Baha Mar features 299 newly redesigned rooms and suites. Many guests describe their accommodations, particularly oceanview suites, as "stunning," boasting spacious kitchens, comfortable living areas, and large balconies with "unbelievable" views. Rooms typically feature floor-to-ceiling windows and a modern, white-on-white color scheme with grey accents. The beds are frequently highlighted as "extremely comfy". However, some minor criticisms include a lack of counter space in bathrooms and curtains instead of doors in certain rooms. A few reviews mention rooms feeling "dated and poorly appointed".
4. Dining Experience
SLS Baha Mar offers a diverse range of dining experiences, from upscale restaurants to casual eateries and food trucks. Popular choices include Fi'lia (Italian), Katsuya (Japanese sushi and robatayaki), Carna (steakhouse), and Cleo (Mediterranean). The Monkey Bar in the lobby is a popular spot for drinks and people-watching. Casual options like Pizza Lab, Noodle Bar, and Da' Poke Bowl Shack are also available.
While the food is generally praised for being "amazing" and of good quality, a consistent complaint is the "extremely costly" pricing of both food and drinks. Some guests suggest that the quality at the fancier restaurants doesn't always justify the high price, with similar items appearing across multiple menus. Dinner reservations are often required and can be difficult to secure.
5. Service & Staff
Feedback on service and staff is notably mixed. Many guests commend the staff as "friendly," "attentive," "accommodating," and "professional," with some experiencing a personalized touch where they are "treated like family".
However, a recurring criticism points to staff being "unhelpful or moody," "indifferent," or "unfriendly". Slow service for food and drinks, as well as issues with housekeeping, have also been reported. More severe complaints include a staff member allegedly ruining a guest's expensive dress without proper resolution, and difficulties in resolving incorrect charges on bills.
6. Location & Accessibility
SLS Baha Mar boasts a prime beachfront location on Cable Beach, situated within the expansive Baha Mar resort complex. It's conveniently located a short 15-minute taxi ride from Nassau's Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS), with airport transfers sometimes included in the resort fee. Guests have easy access to the numerous facilities of the larger Baha Mar property, including the casino, the Baha Bay Water Park, and other hotel pools. While Cable Beach is a "beautiful stretch of beach," some visitors have expressed disappointment over a "massive dock" that obstructs views and limits snorkeling opportunities directly in front of the resort. Beyond the resort, nearby attractions include the Baha Mar Tennis Club, the Straw Market, and local distilleries.
7. Value & Pricing
SLS Baha Mar is positioned as a "midlevel hotel" within the Baha Mar complex, priced between the Grand Hyatt and Rosewood. While some guests consider it "worth every single dime" despite the high cost, pricing is a frequent point of contention. Nightly rates can vary significantly, with deals starting from around $241 to $536, and average deals around $947 per night.
Guests should also factor in additional daily resort and service charges, which can range from approximately $37 to over $60 per day. These fees often cover amenities like airport transfers and access to shared resort facilities. As previously mentioned, the cost of food and beverages on the property is consistently cited as very expensive. It's also worth noting that SLS Baha Mar does not participate in major hotel loyalty programs.
8. Common Complaints
Several recurring issues are highlighted by guests:
- High Costs: The most common complaint centers around the "extremely costly" prices for food, drinks, and resort fees.
- Inconsistent Service: Mixed reviews on staff, with many reports of unhelpful, moody, or indifferent service, as well as slow food and drink delivery.
- Billing Issues: Instances of incorrect charges on bills and difficulties in resolving these discrepancies have been reported.
- Cleanliness & Upkeep: While generally described as clean, some guests noted a lack of attention to "small details," such as room service trays left in hallways for days or mold.
- Noise: The lively, party atmosphere, especially on weekends, can lead to significant noise disturbances, particularly if not actively participating in the nightlife. Unpleasant odors, such as marijuana, have also been reported in hallways.
- Dining Reservations: Difficulty in securing dinner reservations at popular restaurants is a common frustration.
- Beach Quality: The presence of a large dock on Cable Beach is noted by some as detracting from the view and swimming experience.
- Offensive Decor: One guest reported finding "racially insensitive pictures of monkeys dressed in suits" within the hotel.
- Safety Concerns: A serious complaint included a "near-death experience" on an unregulated jet ski excursion booked through the hotel, raising questions about third-party vendor oversight.

Not the luxury experience that was expected considering the price. We stayed in room 604 where the shower door was not sealed properly therefore never closed all the way and water seeped out every time…so ANNOYING! We asked for a mini refrigerator to keep our complementary waters cold. The one they provided never worked so we had to ask for ice constantly through room service…extra wait time. W...

SLS guests definitely get the short stick in the Baha Mar resort complex. Spent 6 nights at SLS. 4 star is a stretch. Definitely not what you would expect from an SLS. I spent quite a bit of time walking around the resort, and scoping out all 3 hotels, facilities, restaurants etc. One thing to note is that the entire Baha Mar resort / complex is owned by the same company that owns Rosewood ho...

Not a luxury hotel. 4 star probably accurate. Could be 3. Built using low grade builder materials. Long elevator lines. Housekeeping left 6 large towels but no washcloths or hand towels. After call received more large towels. Broken / cracked things in the room. Bathroom area has a separate closet for the toilet, but the door and enclosure from see through glass. Defeats the whole purpose of the...

Food at the resort restaurants was fabulous! This trip I did Cinko, Cleo, Leola and Katsuya ! Rooms were kept refreshed without having to ask . Here the week Feb 8-12 and the weather was absolutely perfect every day ! Used the paddle boards and the lazy river is still fun at 44 🙌

Stayed at baha mar last week. Upon arrival the property looked beautiful, we were pleasantly surprised when the front desk offered us an upgraded room. When we entered the room it was beautiful but upon further review we noticed the room was dirty. It was clear the rooms weren’t cleaned throughout, we found hair that was not ours in multiple places. The shower was dirty, and floors as well. We acc...

When I think of SLS, I think of Miami and luxury. SLS at Baha Mar appears that way, but misses the mark in many ways. Let's start with rooms. We booked a Superior King, and were given 602. I think it is a well positioned room, spacious (more spacious than others: definitely larger than the Sq Footage mentioned on the website. However, design is where it falls. I think it is made very cheaply ...
