Severin's Resort & Spa, a two-Michelin Key property on the island of Sylt, Germany, consistently earns accolades for its luxurious offerings and exceptional service. Guests frequently describe it as an outstanding destination for relaxation and indulgence, solidifying its reputation as one of Germany's premier hotels.
Overall Rating & Sentiment
Severin's Resort & Spa enjoys an overwhelmingly positive reception, often rated as "exceptional" by guests. On platforms like Booking.com, it scores highly across various categories, including an impressive 9.6 overall rating. Specific scores highlight excellent cleanliness (9.7), facilities (9.7), comfort (9.9), and staff performance (9.8), reflecting a high degree of guest satisfaction. The Michelin Guide has also recognized it with "Two MICHELIN Keys," signifying an exceptional stay.
Key Highlights
Guests consistently praise the resort's elaborate and extensive spa, spanning 1,500 square meters and featuring five themed saunas, a swimming pool, and a hammam. The resort's design, which beautifully merges traditional Frisian architecture with contemporary elements, creates an atmosphere of "casual luxury." Service is a recurring highlight, often described as impeccable and personalized. The culinary experiences, particularly the fine dining at Tipken's by Nils Henkel, also stand out. Furthermore, its family-friendly amenities, including a Kids' Club and babysitting services, alongside its pet-friendly policy, enhance its appeal.
Room Quality
The rooms and suites at Severin's Resort & Spa are designed to provide the highest level of comfort and exclusivity. Ranging from 38 to 400 square meters, accommodations are spacious and thoughtfully conceived. They feature an "antique-influenced but beautifully contemporary" design, complete with high-quality wood and natural stone floors. Guests can expect modern amenities such as comfortable box-spring double beds, flat-screen TVs with Sky, wireless internet access, a minibar (included in room rates for hotel rooms), Nespresso coffee machines, and a selection of teas. Bathrooms are well-appointed with rain showers, bathtubs, illuminated mirrors, hairdryers, and exclusive La Biosthétique toiletries. Some superior and deluxe rooms even offer private terraces equipped with traditional Sylt beach chairs, while Maisonette suites boast impressive ceiling heights up to six meters.
Dining Experience
Gastronomy is a significant draw at Severin's, with a strong emphasis on quality and regional products. The resort offers two distinct dining experiences. Tipken's by Nils Henkel is a fine-dining establishment known for its modern "Flora & Fauna" cuisine, combining local ingredients with international flavors, and has been awarded a Michelin star. For a more casual setting, Hoog serves as a bistro, bar, and tea room, offering traditional local and national specialties, and is a popular spot for lunch or a relaxed dinner.
Breakfast is consistently highly praised, described as a "magnificent buffet" that includes freshly prepared dishes. A particularly appreciated feature is the extended breakfast hours, often available until 1 PM, which can be enjoyed on the large south-facing terrace during good weather. Beyond the restaurants, guests can unwind at the hotel bar, enjoy a premium cigar selection in the Smoker's Lounge, or partake in private tastings in the wine cellar.
Service & Staff
The service at Severin's Resort & Spa receives overwhelmingly positive feedback. Guests frequently commend the staff for being "super friendly," "hearty," "attentive," and "incredibly nice and helpful." Many reviewers note the staff's professionalism and genuine warmth, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere where guests feel truly valued. The hotel prides itself on a philosophy of "arrive and feel at home," which is consistently delivered by its dedicated team.
Location & Accessibility
Situated in the charming, historic village of Keitum on the Wadden Sea side of Sylt, Severin's Resort & Spa boasts an "excellent location." Keitum is recognized for its picturesque gardens and pathways, making it one of Sylt's most romantic areas. While offering tranquility, the resort remains accessible: Westerland, with its main train station and car shuttle, is approximately 6 kilometers away (a 10-15 minute drive). Westerland/Sylt Airport is also conveniently reachable within 10-15 minutes by car. Keitum itself has a train station, located just 1.5 kilometers from the hotel, which is within walking distance. The surrounding area provides opportunities for activities such as cycling and hiking, and the Sylter Heimatmuseum is a mere 500 meters away.
Value & Pricing
Severin's Resort & Spa is positioned as a luxury property, and its pricing reflects this. While generally considered "very expensive," many guests find the cost to be justified by the exceptional quality of service, facilities, and overall experience. An average room price can be around $704, though this varies significantly by room category and season. Room rates typically include accommodation, breakfast, minibar drinks, WiFi, access to the extensive spa and fitness room, and childcare services, as well as shuttle transfers from local train stations or the airport. For apartments and villas, breakfast can be booked additionally, while spa access and WiFi are included.
Common Complaints
While overwhelmingly positive, some minor recurring issues have been noted by guests. One complaint mentioned "hard mattresses" in some rooms, leading to discomfort for side sleepers. Another occasional criticism pertains to the breakfast service, with some guests experiencing long waiting times for individually prepared egg dishes.

Nearing the end of our stay and thought to write a short review early. Exceptional staff and service which we thoroughly enjoyed. We have stayed all around the world and would put this up there in the top hotels of the world.

Mixed experience at best. Hotel does not live up to the standards they set for themselves. Breakfast is great. Rooms are nicely designed – unfortunately we had the pleasure of facing the trash cans (quite a number of them), and had the privilege of being woken by the sounds of trash being picked up and glass containers being emptied in the morning. Reception team did not seem to care at all about ...

Very pleasant and previously coming staff in all areas, service is really capitalized here. Individual wishes are taken here with a lightness that is so unfortunately only very rarely used. In addition to great rooms and very good food, it is really highly recommended!
