Review platforms show consistent satisfaction, with key highlights being its excellent location (often rated 9.6 or 9.7/10) and the attentive, friendly staff (rated 9.2/10 for staff and comfort). Many describe it as a "modern classic" that provides an oasis of silence amidst the city's bustle.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently laud several aspects of Regina Barcelona:

  • Location: Universally praised as perfect, central, and steps away from major attractions.
  • Service & Staff: Described as attentive, extremely friendly, helpful, and professional.
  • Cleanliness: The hotel is frequently noted for being immaculate and spotless.
  • Breakfast: Often highlighted as exceptional with a wide variety and homemade options.
  • Design & Ambiance: The hotel elegantly merges traditional elements (dating back to 1917) with modern renovations (refreshed in early 2024), creating a stylish and airy interior.
  • Amenities: Features an on-site bar, Bar La Esquina/Gina's Salon, serving local wines and Catalan small plates, and provides access to a nearby fitness center with an indoor swimming pool and spa.

3. Room Quality

The hotel boasts 99 exquisitely designed rooms that offer a blend of modern comfort and classic charm. Rooms are generally described as clean, comfortable, tasteful, and modern, with high ceilings, large windows, fine wooden furnishings, and elegant white drapery. Many rooms are spacious, and some, like the "Duo Balcony" and "Corner Balcony" rooms, feature private balconies overlooking the city. Even the smallest single rooms come with relatively spacious white-tiled bathrooms and inviting walk-in showers. Family rooms are also available. In-room amenities include flat-screen TVs, minibars, safes, premium bedding, bathrobes, slippers, and complimentary toiletries. Some guests appreciate the presence of a water fountain on each floor for refilling bottles. However, some travelers noted a lack of in-room coffee/tea supplies and free water in certain rooms.

4. Dining Experience

The dining experience at Regina Barcelona is a significant draw, particularly the breakfast.

  • Breakfast: Consistently described as a "real highlight" and "exceptional," offering an abundant buffet with homemade cakes, fresh-baked bread, pastries, cured meats, local cheeses, granola, fruits, and a menu for ordering various egg dishes (scrambled, omelette). It caters to diverse dietary needs, including continental, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. The breakfast area also offers outdoor seating in an inner courtyard.
  • On-site Bar & Restaurant: The hotel features Gina's Salon, a ground-level lounge and bar, and Bar La Esquina, a buzzy bistro specializing in Catalan small plates and natural wines from local growers. These venues are popular with both guests and locals for meals or nightcaps, with hotel guests sometimes receiving discounts.
  • Room Service: Room service is available for guests who prefer to dine in their rooms.

5. Service & Staff

The service and staff at Regina Barcelona are frequently lauded as a strong point of the hotel. Guests consistently describe the team as attentive, extremely friendly, helpful, and professional. It is set on a slightly less busy side street but is just steps away from major landmarks such as Plaça de Catalunya, Passeig de Gràcia, and La Rambla. Accessibility is excellent, with a taxi stop directly outside and the Plaça de Catalunya metro station a mere 5-minute stroll away. The express bus to the airport is also conveniently located nearby.

7. Value & Pricing

Prices for a 1-night stay for two adults can start from around $157.49, with a wider range from $91 to $1372 depending on room type and booking platform. Guests over 16 are subject to a city tax, which is not included in the room rate.

8. Common Complaints

While generally highly rated, some guests have noted minor recurring issues or criticisms:

  • Noise: Despite efforts at soundproofing, some guests have reported hearing street noise or noise between rooms, with one mentioning "thin walls". Rooms overlooking the inner patio are sometimes recommended for a quieter experience.
  • In-room amenities: A few reviews mention the lack of in-room coffee/tea making facilities and free water, although filtered water is available on floors.
  • Bathroom size: Some guests found certain bathrooms, particularly in standard rooms, to be small or lacking sufficient counter space.
  • Room scent: One guest found the initial room scent a bit powerful upon arrival, though it aired out easily.
  • Specific comfort issues: An isolated complaint noted that children's beds were too hard.
  • Maintenance: Occasional comments about hallways showing "a bit of wear and tear".
  • Isolated service incident: One particularly negative review detailed "poor service, non professional staff, no attention, no answers" and issues with lights and refunds. However, this appears to be an outlier given the overwhelming positive feedback on staff.

This hotel was very nice. We had the studio room and it was perfect for 2 people. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were too. We had a tub shower and a nice sized bathroom. The window opened to the street below and gave a good view of the city below. The staff was very friendly and always seemed to be smiling. We stayed 6 nights and i would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a home base ...

We absolutely loved our stay at Hotel Regina! The rooms were so clean and comfortable. It was so centrally located, so it was so easy to walk everywhere. Laura was so kind! She gave us so many helpful tips of things to do. She went above and beyond to make sure all of our questions were answered. She even sent up cava and chocolate to our room on our last evening, which was such a lovely touch! We...

Perfect hotel for a tourist visit to Barcelona. Good breakfast, on-site restaurant, comfortable king bed and basic amenities. Two things made it a stand-out: the location and the service. Steps from a metro stop, taxis available on the block at every hour, two minutes from the Plaza de Catalunya and Corte Ingles. Yet the street was quiet. Service was five star, from check-in at reception to the r...

Great stay at hotel Regina. My family at four got to a hotel rooms. Perfect when traveling with children (ages 12 and 14). The staff was wonderful. The bartender makes delicious drinks. The doorman was always pleasant. The best part is we were surprised with 12 grapes and cava on New Year’s Eve to celebrate a Spanish tradition. Very thoughtful

Our family (7 of us) stayed at The Regina Hotel during holiday break 2025. We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel except for their lobby policy and bartender service. If you decide to stay at this hotel, beware no one is allowed to sit in the lobby with outside food or drink not even water. You must order from their tapas and drinks menu only. One of the bartenders walked over to our table and ...
