Expert Review: Pullman Lijiang Resort and Spa
The Pullman Lijiang Resort and Spa, a Michelin Key Selected property, offers a luxurious and tranquil escape amidst the stunning landscapes of Lijiang, China. This resort is consistently praised for its exceptional blend of traditional Naxi design and modern amenities, providing guests with a memorable stay.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The general consensus for Pullman Lijiang Resort and Spa is overwhelmingly positive, with an average rating of 8.9 to 9.2 across various platforms. Guests frequently describe their experience as "exceptional," "great," and "luxurious," highlighting the resort's ability to exceed expectations.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently laud the resort for its breathtaking views of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, often visible directly from rooms, villas, and public areas. The design, which mimics a traditional local village from the outside with pagodas reflected in a tranquil central pond, coupled with minimalist and contemporary interiors, is a significant draw. The sprawling and peaceful compound with beautiful gardens and a lake is also a major highlight, contributing to a serene atmosphere. The attentive and friendly staff, along with spacious and well-appointed accommodations, are also frequently cited as key strengths. Villas often feature private courtyards and outdoor soaking tubs, enhancing the luxury experience.
3. Room Quality
Rooms at the Pullman Lijiang are described as pristine and thoroughly contemporary. While entry-level rooms can be a bit spartan, the more lavish villas come with desirable extras like underfloor heating, private courtyards, and outdoor soaking tubs facing the mountains. All units generally offer comfortable sofa, scenic views from floor-to-ceiling windows, and modern amenities such as iPod docks, Nespresso machines, LCD TVs, and complimentary Wi-Fi. Deluxe rooms are typically spacious, around 42 sqm, while villas offer significantly larger spaces, ranging from 115 sqm for a one-bedroom deluxe villa to 477 sqm for a three-bedroom deluxe villa. The bedding is often noted for its comfort, aiding in restful sleep.
4. Dining Experience
The resort offers a delightful array of dining options. The ZUN Chinese restaurant specializes in gourmet regional cuisine, while the XI Western restaurant provides international and Asian dishes with al fresco seating and stunning views of the lake and Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. A particularly interesting offering is the "Open Kitchen by Pullman," where guests can observe local chefs preparing their meals. Breakfast receives high praise for its "wide variety" and delicious spread, encompassing both Western and Chinese options. Additionally, there is the Snow Mountain Rose Bakery, Pastryshop, and England Time, along with 24-hour room service and a coffee shop/cafe.
5. Service & Staff
The service and staff are consistently rated highly, with guests commending their "warm hospitality" and "impeccable service." Reviews frequently highlight the staff as "friendly and accommodating," often going "above and beyond" to ensure a pleasant stay. Examples include staff assisting during medical emergencies, providing complimentary birthday cakes, and offering attentive service throughout. The housekeeping staff is also noted for their excellent cleanliness and punctual service.
6. Location & Accessibility
The Pullman Lijiang Resort and Spa is strategically located next to Shuhe Ancient Town, offering a tranquil setting with easy access to cultural sites. While technically outside of Lijiang's main city, its location is appreciated for providing uninterrupted views of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Shuhe Ancient Town is within walking distance or a short drive (approximately 10 minutes), and Lijiang Old Town is about a 30-minute drive away. The resort provides conveniences such as free parking, valet parking, and car hire services. Didi (taxi services) are readily available and affordable for getting around the area. Lijiang Sanyi International Airport is approximately 22 miles (33.2 km) away, and airport transfer services can be arranged for an additional charge.
7. Value & Pricing
Guests frequently find the Pullman Lijiang Resort and Spa to offer "exceptional value for money." While an average room price might be around $156 compared to the city's average of $94, many feel the luxurious experience, spacious rooms, and extensive amenities justify the cost. Prices can start from around $91-$100, depending on the season and booking platform. The quality of the facilities and service, especially for families or those seeking a peaceful retreat, often leads guests to state that the resort "exceeds expectations."
8. Common Complaints
One recurring criticism revolves around the spa facilities, specifically the lack of an indoor heated pool. Guests have expressed disappointment, especially during colder months, given the resort's "Spa" designation, as only an outdoor pool is typically available and may be too cold for swimming in winter. Some entry-level rooms are noted as being "a bit spartan" compared to the more opulent villas. While villas are praised for their space, a few reviews mention that older villas might not be "very well maintained" in certain aspects. Additionally, some guests find the location to be "a bit far from the city" for walking, though readily available Didi taxis mitigate this concern.

Great value for money. The villa was huge for the price we paid, although some of the fittings were a little dated and probably due for an upgrade. Location is ok - not close to Lijiang old town but walking distance to Shuhe old town. Breakfast was excellent, as was dinner at the hotel restaurant. Service was also excellent throughout our stay.

Comparing to other 5 stars and accor resorts that I have been in, this one is above average. The garden is pretty but the service is a bit slow and not top-notch service.

Wonderful resort which would have gotten my 5 stars if not for the numerous creepy crawlies in my room every night. I encountered a problem of double booking when I checked in which your staff quickly assisted me to waive off one booking thankfully. The resort is quiet and not crowded; I enjoyed my stay here and the breakfast was really extensive and delicious.

Photos look great, but hotel is in dire need for an upgrade. Back pain from the worn out mattress. Many broken/worn things.

We have a very pleasant 3 nights stay. Nothing to complain about, everything is perfect, the staff really trying their best to provide us the ultimate comfort during our stay. The hotel landscape, architectural design, the food, room design, etc all perfect.

Good and relaxing stay to close year 2024. Aged hotel should look into improving its hardware and breakfast menu. Staff are attentive during my stay and surprise arrangement on my birthday. Temperature in living room and bathroom are not warm enough during winter months. But housekeeping staff are quick to rectify this issue with portable heater. Otherwise it’s a charming resort with proximity...
